Chapter One: Into the past

Jeremy Gilbert sighed in boredom as he plopped down on his bed. They had been at this for hours now and still no luck! How were they suppose to find a solution to their Vampire-hell-bent-on-destroying-the-lives-of-everyone-he-knew, problem in a pile of old and dusty books?

Jeremy let out another long suffering sigh before looking over to the only other person in the room.

On the floor sat Bonnie, multiple spell books littering the floor all around her.

"Oh, I think I found something."

Bonnie said as she picked up one of the books and held it closer. Jeremy pushed himself off the bed and sat beside her looking down at the book. He stared at the curvy written Latin words not understanding a word of it as Bonnie began to read aloud. After a few more minutes of her muttering to herself Jeremy got a little impatient.

"What is it?"

Bonnie looked up from the book at him and seemed to be considering something.

"It's a transportation spell, however its very risky."

"Transportation spell? That does seem useful. Just think of the possibilities bonnie! Especially at the sacrificial ritual that the Klaus guy is trying to do. If he gets Elena you can transport her to somewhere safe and he wouldn't know where to find her."

At his words Bonnie started to smile, his excitement contagious.

"Your right, But I'm going to need to try it out before I try it on her."

Jeremy stared at her in thought before crossing his arms.

"What about trying it out on me?"

He asked.

Bonnie immediately started to protest, saying it was way too risky.

She decided to start out small. Bonnie transported little things to different rooms in the house for a while until Jeremy said she would need to transport a person to make sure she could transport Elena.

Bonnie glared at him and said she wasn't going to do it.

"Look, nothing is going to happen and even if it does, the ring won't let me die." He said. At her panicked look he quickly tried to soothe her by saying that it wouldn't even come to that. After a couple more minutes of what Bonnie called insistent whining, she finally gave in.

"Fine."

Bonnie gritted out in irritation.

Jeremy smirked in triumph before setting out to follow the instructions Bonnie started laying out for him. After setting up eight candles in a near perfect circle he sat in the middle as Bonnie told him too. Jeremy watched in wonder as with just a swipe of her hand, all eight candles were aflame. Bonnie picked the book up to study the words of the transportation spell one more time before standing in front of Jeremy. After one more glance at Jeremy she closed her eyes and began to chant.

Jeremy could immediately tell the spell was working as the lights started to flicker in the house and the flames from the candles began to heighten. Suddenly the temperature in the room began to drop and he felt a little light headed. Jeremy put a hand to his head and hissed in pain as it began to throb giving him a horrible headache.

Closing his eyes, Jeremy fought to keep his lunch from earlier that day down as the pain in his head was on the verge of unbearable. Opening up his eyes be tried to focus on Bonnie who became increasingly blurrier each second but found it only made his insides turn unpleasantly. As the minutes went by he gradually began to feel less sick and a lot more cold. In fact it was freezing. Which was very strange since it was summer.

Something was wrong.

Opening his eyes, Jeremy was met with a shocking sight. In place of his room was a freaking Forrest! Trees as far as he could see surrounding him, the night sky darkening the woods further. Sitting up, Jeremy looked around searching for something to make his situation better. He couldn't see anything and the only sound he could hear was the sound of his own breathing and the noise of the forest animals.

Standing up, he wrapped his arms around his body in an attempt to warm himself up as he walked in a random direction. After tripping for the millionth time over a root or getting caught up on tree limbs Jeremy remembered he had his cell phone in his pocket. Pulling it out, he switched on his flashlight app to help see in the dark.

After a while of walking through the pathless woods Jeremy decided to take a small break. Sitting down on an overturned tree, Jeremy put away his phone and put his arms in his shirt in a last effort to get warm.

God, It has to be at least 20 degrees out here.

Jeremy thought as he fought to not lose it.

What the hell went wrong? Where am I and how the fuck do I get back? God, Bonnie has to be freaking out by now. Ugh, What is Elena doing? I hope she doesn't do anything to drastic.

Jeremy thought with dread. Sighing, he rubbed his face repeatedly trying to wipe the sleep from his eyes. Suddenly something occurred to Jeremy, his hand felt a little lighter. Why? Looking down at his hand he gasped in surprise. His ring! it was gone.

Jeremy hurriedly turned and started walking into the direction he came from looking wildly around the forest floor for the bulky blue ring.

No no no no no no no no, this cannot be happening!

In desperation he dropped to his knees and ran his hands through the fallen leaves, but it was no use. He didn't know where he had appeared. Jeremy sighed and slumped down against the nearest tree and curled up in an attempt to get warm. By now it was extremely cold and he could feel his hands and face go numb.

Looking up into the sky he could see the stars and the full moon. It was the same sky he saw every night, which brought him a little comfort knowing he was still on the same planet. Suddenly a thought came to him. Full moon meant werewolves. Jeremy slowly looked from left to right in caution. Then he heard a rustle in the leaves.

Without thinking Jeremy bolted. The only things he could hear was his heart beating rapidly and the heavy sound of his footfalls on the hard ground as he dodged tree limbs as best as he could, a few catching and cutting his skin making him bleed. Jeremy ignored the stinging sensation and kept going to afraid to look behind him.

Unfortunately he didn't have to look behind him, because he could hear the sound of paws digging into the dirt of the forest floor and the snarls of a wolf ready to pounce.

The moment the wolf pounced, Jeremy knew it. He didn't even have the time to let the overwhelming fear sink in before the massive weight of the wolf collided with his back, dragging him to the ground. Before he could process what was happening, sharp and unforgiving large teeth sank into his shoulder, making him scream as white hot pain erupted from the bite.

The wolf growled loud at the sound of his screams before he let go, ready to bite into him again. Jeremy tried in vain to sit up to run but his arms felt like jelly, making him collapse at every try. As the wolf veered back to lunge Jeremy screwed his eyes shut in a last attempt of defiance. But nothing came. Suddenly the sound of yelps and whimpers not his own pierced the air along side his, confusing him. But Jeremy couldn't find it in himself to look. He was so tired, to weak to move.

He couldn't feel the pain, the cold weather, or even the fear.

I guess this is what it feels like to actually die.

His vision began to blur as he lay on the forest floor. He could hear the sound of heavy footfalls just to his left making him jolt in surprise. Someone had save him. Who? How did they take on a werewolf? Fear began to make itself known again.

"Well, this is certainly unexpected."

A voice said. It was male, and sounded British.

"Indeed, brother."

Another male voice, this one had a gentler tone.

Jeremy had to get away. They couldn't be human if they were able to take on a deranged werewolf so fast and so easily. Jeremy ignored the excruciating pain running through his entire body and rolled over onto his stomach in an effort to get away.

God, his shoulder was on fire. He could literally feel each and every hole that the werewolves' teeth left. It hurt so much; it was by far the worst death he had ever felt.

"What should we do brother?"

The British accented voice asked in a tone of wonder and partial amusement.

"Hmmm, let's take him with us. I'm very curious to learn what he is."

Jeremy whimpered and groaned in protest as he felt himself being lifted into the air and onto someone's shoulder. The sharp angle of the broad but hard shoulder digging into his sore stomach, the sudden movement disturbing his shoulder making him scream in pain. The scream echoed throughout the forest scaring birds into flight and alerting predators to there location. Suddenly he felt cold hands grab his warmed face making him looked into a set of equally cold as ice blue eyes, and strangely enough he felt himself calming down.

"Sleep now."

Jeremy felt his eyes immediately start drooping until they were completely shut and he felt himself slip into the darkness.

Jeremy came to with the warmth and bright light of the sun shining in his eyes making him groan in protest. Throwing his arm over his face he tried to block out the unforgiving light but found it was no use. Giving up Jeremy cracked open an eye slowly in an attempt to gradually get use to the light. But as soon as he caught sight of the unfamiliar room it all came back to him. He frantically looked around the room for signs of danger but found none making him relax enough to actually look at the room.

He was in a room on a King sized bed with silk sheets and a thick blanket thrown over him. Frowning in confusion Jeremy slid off the bed and and went to the only window in the small room. It was morning he'd guess by the brightness of the sun. Looking at the surrounding area he noticed that all he could see were woods.

Typical.

Thinking of the woods reminded him about the events of the previous night making him gasp in remembrance. His hand automatically went to his shoulder to where the wound would have been and sighed in relief when he felt no pain at all. It wasn't their anymore.

Wait, I lost the ring, how am I alive?

He thought with building panic. The only thing he could come up with was to think a vampire had given him there blood. Which made his panicking sky rocket. He quickly got out of the bed and went for the door. Grabbing the knob he slowly opened it and peeked down the hall for any signs of a person.

Seeing there were none, he advanced down the hall until he arrived at the end of the hall which led to what must have been the living room. There was a solid wooden door across the room that Jeremy was betting was the way out of the house. Taking a deep breath he bolted for it and yanked it open.

But before he could continue his escape Jeremy stumbled back into the house in shock as he sucked in a breath of fear. On the other side of the door frame stood NiKlaus, the hybrid that was hell bent on destroying his family. The whole reason he was even in this mess. Jeremy inched back in fear as Niklaus entered the house slowly, all the while staring at him the entire time with a wide smirk.

Taking a chance, Jeremy turned and ran as fast as he could to the room he came from. He could practically feel Klaus's breath on the back of his neck as he turned to slam the door on him. Jeremy gasped in fear when Klaus grabbed the door before he could shut it and ripped it from his hands making it fly back into the wall behind it cracking wood in the process. Forgetting the door, he ran for the window and crashed through the glass., Not even caring about the cuts from the glass in his arms he ran for the surrounded forest.

As he broke through the edge of the trees Jeremy felt Something was wrong. Why wasn't he following him? As soon as the thought crossed his mind a huge pulse of pain raced though his head. Jeremy fell to his knees and gritted his teeth in pain. What was happening?

"Tut tut tut, we mustn't run away from our host, it's not good manners."

Klaus mocked as he stocked into the forest leisurely walking up the Jeremy, who by now was clutching his head in pain.

"W-what's going on?"

Jeremy asked as the pain started too dissipated as soon as Klaus got closer. Jeremy was bewildered to note that When Klaus was right in front of him the pain was completely gone.

"It's just a little something I had a witch do to make sure you don't get that far from me."

Klaus explained nonchalantly as he grabbed Jeremy by his waist. Jeremy didn't have time to react as in the span of a second they were in the room Jeremy had woken up in. Jeremy felt like he was going to throw up.

I now know not to travel by vampire.

He allowed Klaus to put him on the bed and he laid back down.

"W-what did you do?"

Klaus sat down on a chair that was right beside the bed and crossed his legs as he watched Jeremy with amusement.

"It's a connection spell. Not only does it insure you won't get more them 50 yards from me, but it also allows me to know exactly where you are."

Klaus boasted happily.

"Why would you do that?"

Jeremy asked as he fought to keep down the bile that was threatening to come up.

Suddenly Klaus's amused expression turned serious.

"Simple really, you intrigue me. I want to know how you survived a werewolf bite, not to mention how it healed by itself in one night."

Jeremy didn't know how to respond to that. Because in all honesty he didn't know the answer to either of those questions.
