Hello dear readers. Or, perhaps you are all my old readers. My readers long gone. My readers dearly departed from my small little fanbase of these silly writings I slaved over for hours.
Regardless, hello. It's Michaelalizzy, back from the grave of fanfiction writers. I'm here to deliver a message to you all. I beg of you to read it in its entirety. There is a sort of prize at the end.
The following message is a review I found waiting for me in my inbox this morning.
Yup:Yeah you let me down immensely. It's been. 2 years now and you still haven't updated? What a joke. It'd be a lot better for you to just delete this god damn fan fiction instead of making readers writhe in lividness from the discontinuation and the urge to know what happens. Unacceptable. You are truly not fit to be a writer. Utter disappointment.
Written by a guest, it's sole purpose seems to be to put me down, purely out of anger.
Lucky for me, and the fans who still may stand by me, I am not affected by messages such as this. People like this are disgusting, and have no place in my life. When I was writing, years ago, my biggest fear was to upset one of you. However, it is impossible to please everyone, and yourself. This, I realized too late.
I became solely focused on updating everything, everyday. Each chapter had to be perfect. And when I could not achieve that, I grew upset, depressed even, to some extent. It was only later that I noticed I was no longer writing for myself. Putting so much effort into writing, other aspects of my life fell apart, and I could only ever think about what my next chapter should be.
Dear writers like me, what I did was not healthy. Worrying aimlessly over each word and connotation, only to please your readers. Thoughtful reviews and beautiful compliments are what every one of us craves, there is little point in denying such. But we all began writing because it brought us joy, not because of the reviews. It created a feeling of ecstasy, having the privilege to see worlds beyond our own, and we longed to keep that. The writers who feel this are the true writers amongst us all.
Write because you love it, not because you require perfection. Improvement will come with experience. And don't pay heed to reviewers like the one above.
Dear readers like me, I understand that finding a discontinued story is frustrating, and that the well-written ones can even reduce you to tears. I've been reading fanfiction for years now, trust me, I understand. Please, try to understand that the writer has reasons for abandoning a story. Even if that reason is that they have grown bored, you must understand.
That is the entire moral of this paragraph. Everyone has a story, try to understand and accept it.
Dear reviewers like the one above, I have very little to say to you. I find you to be disgusting. Leaving reviews to hurt others is not okay. We're big, mature people now, hiding behind a review isn't what we do.
Dear the reviewer above, good try. I've done something right if you're so angry over the discontinuation of this story, especially two years later. You can't hurt me with your ill-chosen words. I know I am a writer, and I do not need your approval for such a title. I will not sit here and fashion my words into hurtful darts to throw at you like you did to me. If you wish to express your anger more personally, I invite you to privately PM me. I promise you, I won't share your username with others, or post it here, or on any other sites.
One last thing. This is the sort of prize. I am debating whether or not to create a FictionPress acount. Well, and actually post things. My name would still be Michaelalizzy, but I wouldn't be writing fanfiction anymore. I do hope I can count on some of your support.
Thank you, if you read this until the end. I'm somewhat surprised that I received such a review, since I've gotten such wonderful praise and support since I began writing. But there's always bound to be a bad apple in a group of such wonderful people.
