The next morning…

Jackson held his daughter close, glancing out the hospital room window watching the Seattle skyline. Such a big amazing world, and now their child was part of it. "Hey you," he whispered to her. "It's Daddy. I still can't believe you're here." Gently he kissed her little pink forehead.

He looked over at April, starting to come out of a much deserved sleep. She sat up and looked over seeing the two of them together. She smiled warmly.

"Hey." she murmured. Jackson turned around and grinned at his amazing wife. "How is she?" "She's been missing her mommy, for one," he chuckled as he carried their daughter over and sat alongside the bed. April held out her arms and he set the baby in the crook of her elbow.

"Hello, sweet girl," she cooed, gently stroking her finger along the baby's cheeks and chin. "What do you think about names?" Jackson asked softly. April shifted a moment, adjusting herself against the elevated mattress.

"I do have one idea..."

A few minutes later, after a quick message through his pager, Jackson looked up with his wife to see Dr. Wilson standing with Alex in the doorway. "You asked for me?" she asked, slightly nervous.

"Come in," April nodded. The resident surgeon and her boyfriend stepped into the room and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "She's a real cute kid," Alex remarked as they came to the new mother's bedside.

"We just wanted to thank you, Wilson." Jackson said. "For all your help."

"There's no need," Jo replied. "Any good doctor would've stepped in for a time like that."

"Well, it certainly meant something to us," April locked eyes with her for a moment before looking to her daughter beginning to fuss in her arms. "that's why we've given her your name."

"Excuse me?" The young physician gaped silently for a moment, then turned to Alex. "You really stepped up," he said with a faint smile. "I'm pretty sure you deserve something like this."

Jackson nodded. "So, Dr. Wilson, we'd like you to meet our daughter: Allison Josephine Avery." Jo's heart fluttered in her chest; never, in all her time as a doctor, had any patient been this grateful to her. "Th-thank you," she managed to say.

After letting her hold her tiny namesake for a short time, April and Jackson excused Jo to continue her day's rounds along with Alex. Now alone once again they kept their eyes on little Allison, gone peacefully back to sleep.

"She's really ours," April marveled as she saw her baby brush her little hand across her delicate new face.

"Yeah," Jackson sighed, laying his hand over his wife's. "Our little Alli." "Oh my gosh, I love that!" she looked up at him with a gleeful smile. "Alli..."

April leaned her head into her husband's shoulder, and together they watched the beginning of their future opened her eyes into this brand new world.
