A/N: Kataang Week: Day One! A day late, but I wanted to update "Proud" yesterday, so here we go! This takes place between "The Fortuneteller" and "Bato of the Water Tribe".

Topic: Beginnings. I see "The Fortuneteller" as where Katara really started considering Aang to potentially be more than a friend.

Disclaimer: I don't own "Avatar: The Last Airbender".

"What did that fortuneteller predict for you anyway?" Sokka inquired boredly as he sat with his back against the side of Appa's saddle, examining his boomerang in the afternoon sun.

"Lots of stuff," Katara's head turned as a blush began to stain her tanned cheeks, facing the setting sun as if to tell herself that was the reason for the sudden rise in temperature within her skin, "You know, family, love,
life, all those crazy things."

"Love?" Sokka's voice sounded incredulous as he deadpanned at his sister, "I feel sorry for the poor kid who falls for you."

Katara suddenly became defensive, turning to face her brother, a blush still resting on her cheeks, "Atleast I'm not going to be miserable all my life!"

"I'm miserable already! It can only get better from here!" He went back to observing his boomerang, muttering about "fortunetellers" and "logic".

His sister huffed a sigh, arms tightening around herself as her gaze turned to the boy resting on the neck of the giant Sky Bison. His bald head bore a single blue arrow pointing in the direction of his nose, matching arrows leading down his pale arms where they ended at his hands that tightly gripped Appa's reins. His autumn colored robes blew gently with the breeze that accompanied flying.

Katara scooted herself to the front of the saddle, her cheeks growing as she watched the young boy closely. She remembered her fortune clearly, she had a feeling she always would.

"Aang?"

The Avatar turned at the sound of his name, breaking him from his thoughts of the girl who had just whispered her need for his attention.

"Yeah?"

Katara's cheeks grew red as she tried to form the question she so desperately wanted to ask, "What did she tell you?"

Aang's brows furrowed, "Who?"

"Aunt Wu."

Aang sucked in a breath, "Oh! Um," he tried hard not to sound nervous, "She just said I had a huge destiny ahead of me, stuff I already knew," his grey eyes looked back at his Water Tribe friend, marveling at the way her chocolate brown hair, though within a braid, moved with the air around it, "What about you?"

Katara's eyes shifted nervously, the heat returning to her cheeks instantly, "Well," the young girl sighed, playing with the end of her braid, "I think she told me some stuff I knew all along, too."

Aang had to turn his face at that, for his grin had turned too wide for him to remain unsuspicious, she would know he had been listening in on her fortune if she saw his face, "Well, that's nice. Are you happy with your fortune?"

Katara's smile grew bashful as she looked down at Appa's fur instead of the tattoed head in front of her, "You know, I think I will be."

Aang blushed at her words, allowing his eyes to fill with unshed tears at the affection he truly held for the girl seated in the saddle behind him.

"Except for the whole papaya thing, I HATE papaya!"

The Avatar laughed at that, gripping the reins a little tighter as he turned them in the direction of their next destination.

Aang agreed with what Katara had said. He would be happy with her fortune in the future too, because he was already happy with it now.
