Chapter 4: Word of Warning

As the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun.

It was now almost the middle of August and the date of the war against Kronos was drawing closer each day. Though I do have to say, I didn't have it as bad as the other campers.

I had only a small handful of run-ins with some monsters while I was on missions with the others (since Lord Death insisted I tag along). I had heard before I had left Manhattan, that hordes of monsters had been attacking multiple campers and satyrs.

Speaking of which, I haven't heard from anyone from Camp since I left; no Iris-message, no letter, heck I didn't even a message in a bottle (though that last one was very unlikely anyway).

'I hope everyone's okay...'

I sighed and leaned further into the couch. The usual sounds of Death City were quiet and there were only a few street lamps lit; I hadn't been able to sleep properly for the last few days.

You see, a few nights ago, I had a nightmare about Percy...

He had jumped into a dirtied river filled with random objects and had basically melted before my eyes. He was reckless sometimes, but I knew him well enough to know he wouldn't be that reckless or stupid.

Well… not without good reason, that is. There was a reason Annabeth always called him Seaweed Brain.

Even before we learned that we were related, Percy had acted like a brother to me… he had told me what being a demigod was like. He also taught me how to fight and control my powers; he even let me ride on Blackjack a few times until I learned to fly well enough on my own Pygasi.

Smiling at the memory I checked the time on the clock on the wall across the room.

12:58 am

I was happy it was Friday night (or was it Saturday morning?); I could sleep in tomorrow and try to relax. Just as I stood from the couch (and fixed the hugely over-sized band shirt) my phone had started to buzz.

'Who would call at this hour?'

"Hello?"

"Skye? I didn't wake you up or-?"

"Percy?!" I'm so happy I live alone at the moment, since I kind of slightly yelled into the phone. "Why are you calling me at this hour? It's one in the morning!"

"I thought it was a good time as any; I don't know when I'll get to call you again before...You know."

"Yeah. So, what's up?"

"Well..."

Percy had told me what had happened in the last few months; the death of Beckendorf and the state our dad was in, how the Gods were fighting Typhon as he made his way towards New York and his visit with Luke's mom and Hestia. As well as his current plan with the rivers in the Underworld.

"So you're planning on taking a dip in the river of Styx?" I sighed, "Have I ever told you that you're crazy?"

"It's the only way. Kronos is invincible; we need to even the grounds. It's the only chance we have at defeating Kronos."

"Where there's a will, there's a way Percy. You don't have to become invincible."

I heard him sigh in frustration. I guess he did have it hard, with the Great Prophecy being about him and everything; maybe this was the best chance we had.

My dream flashed in my mind again.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, "I guess I can't talk you out of it, huh?" I chuckled lightly. "I just want you to be careful, okay. You know how to make everyone worry."

I heard a stressed laugh from him, "That has been happening a lot recently."

He became silent for a moment; I thought he hung up on me.

"Percy? You okay over there?" He ignored my question.

"You're still coming back for the war right? We need more allies."

"Yeah, but I plan on coming alone." I'm not about to throw Soul and the others head-first into a war that isn't theirs to fight. "Any word on anyone else?"

"We've got almost everyone at Camp. Though, the Ares cabin is claiming they won't fight. And I think Grover is still gathering nature spirits. We're actually waiting for Grover now."

"We? Is Annabeth with you-?"

"It's Nico. He's been helping me out... and this is a part of his plan."

I rolled my eyes even though I knew Percy couldn't see them. The thing about Nico was that he was a toss-up; nobody knew what was really going on with him.

Especially after he lost his sister.

"I see." I heard another voice (probably Nico) speak to Percy for a moment before Percy spoke to me again.

"Skye I have to go. Grover hasn't shown up yet and I'm getting worried. We'll make sure you get here in one piece, okay."

"Okay. Remember be careful Percy; both of you… and good luck."

Percy said a quick goodbye and hung up.

I stared at my phone for a moment before shutting it off. I stood from the couch again (I had sat down again while Percy was filling me in) and headed towards my room. My sheets were still in a mess from earlier and the lights were still out.

I crawled into the cool sheets, thinking I wouldn't fall asleep like before. I was asleep once my head hit my pillow.

"So… we're at the Academy first thing in the morning… on a Saturday?" I yawned as Maka dragged me (and a just as tired Soul) through the corridors' of the building in search of a large enough space for 'some training', as she called it.

Apparently, it couldn't wait 'till a later hour than six on the morning.

"Of course. You've been practicing for a few months, and your soul perception has been really coming along. But, you still need to perfect it."

She continued opening different doors to different rooms, and quickly shutting them if they seemed too small and moved further down the hallway. I yawned again, rubbing an eye as I did so. Out of the corner of my eye, Soul seemed to copy my actions.

"But why so early? Why can't we wait 'till noon or something?" Yet another door was opened and closed. "Nobody is here on the weekends anyways; we can come back at a better hour."

It didn't look like my reasoning was getting to her at all. If anything, she moved faster down the long hallway that lead to a wooded area (I never really understood why that was on the Academy grounds in the first place).

I heard Soul yawn loudly beside me as we slowly trudged along behind Maka out into the area. As expected, it was crowded with trees and was covered in worn dirt trail.

If I hadn't been here for a few months (and walls of the school could be seen), I probably thought that this was an actual forest.

I yawned loudly again.

"Is this gonna be the same as usual?" I stretched my arms above my head while fighting the urge to yawn again, "Or are we gonna spice it up today?"

"Hmm… I guess we could spice it up."

She adjusted the white gloves on her hands and turned to Soul – who was pretty much asleep standing up – before giving him a hard smack on the head with a book.

'Ouch.'

Though, it seemed to do the trick of waking him up fully; even if it left him with a lather large bump on his head.

"Turn into a scythe already, we're about to start."

He grumbled quietly to himself, before glowing and changing into his weapon form, a scythe; and before landing on the ground (since you know, weapons can't really stand on their own) Maka caught him and sat him on her shoulder.

I quickly drew my own blade and held it lazily.

"This is how it's gonna work."

"Never again. Let's never ever spice it up again!"

If you hadn't guessed it, I had my butt thoroughly kicked by Maka and Soul. Out of exhaustion, I had fell backwards on the forest floor and stared up at the face of Soul and Maka.

'I'm so happy that they're on my side. They're on a completely different level than me…'

"Hey, it wasn't that bad." Soul was crouched by my head, grinning down at me. "You did say you wanted to 'spice it up' after-all."

I just groaned.

"Hey, you three!"

I sat up as a random student (that I honestly don't remember) ran up to us, panting.

"Lord Death wants to see all of you in the Death Room. Now."

Knowing what that meant for us, I just groaned and fell back to the ground again.

'Oh, how the Gods hate me. I think I rather be with Percy in the Underworld.'

"Hello, Hello! Glad you could make it!"

"Good morning, Lord Death."

The three of us now stood in front of the mirror that stood in the Death Room and listened as Lord Death gave us our mission.

"Grease? Like the musical?"

I just sighed at Soul's obliviousness.

"No, you idiot! Greece as in the country." Maka snapped at him; the two started glaring at each other.

"That's right!"

'Thank you Lord Death for stopping the would be argument between those two.'

"I need you three to investigate one of the towns there. There have been reports of a kishen being sighted, and you three are the only ones currently free."

"Understood. When would we be leaving?" As usual, Maka took charge of the situation; and I was pretty glad she did.

I was worrying a little since; well… that's where most of the monsters tended to show up. I don't really know why, but I always knew it would be a bad idea to go to Greece.

With my quiet worrying, I almost missed Maka and Soul heading out of the Death Room.

"Skyler, would you mind sticking around for a moment please?"

"Sure, Lord Death." I told Soul and Maka to go on without me, and then turned to Lord Death. "Is there something wrong?"

"Quite the opposite really," He straighten himself with the mirror. "I just want to warn you of the danger in Greece."

I sighed in relive. I've forgotten that I wasn't the only Half-Blood he's dealt with.

"I understand that Half-Bloods like to keep the fact that they're only half mortal to themselves, so I'll only tell you this: Monsters have been known to show up in Greece. So pleases, keep your friends safe; I don't want any of my students getting harmed by those monsters."

"I know Lord Death; I've been doing my best."

I placed my hand into my short's pocket and gripped onto the pen that's always there.

"Like you, I don't want any of them to get hurt. Especially, if I'm the cause of it."

He seemed to smile through that mask of his.

"That's good to hear."

A few hours later, the three of us were on our way to Greece; and like always we were stuck in taking a plane. I may have been flying on one for the last few months, but that never stopped me of hating or fearing them.

Luckily, today seemed to be a good day; there was nothing but clear blue skies for miles.

I relaxed into the leather seat, and had fallen asleep a few minutes just after take-off.

A/N: So I finally got off my ass and updated. Yay!

So, I started a Tumblr Blog for anyone who's interested; the blog is usually for other written works I've been working on... though I'm still unsure about posting them on here. ^^;

My ask box is always open, so go on and leave a note there if you want; I'd like to hear what you guys think. I read all your comments and I get so giddy reading them all!

Chapter 5 is being written as we speak, and I know this chapter is a little boring but I promise, the action is gonna pick up in the next few chapters.

Link to the Blog is on my profile, and with that, I hoped you enjoyed this chapter.
