A/N: Since a lot of people have been doing a Percy x Artemis fanfic I've decided to write one as well. But be warned, this is darker than the rest.
A/N2: Just to make things clear, my story is like what I said above "darker than the rest" that also means that this story is VERY different than the many other percyxartemis stories that I have read here on fanfiction. For one, Annabeth does not cheat on Percy, instead she dies in battle. The reason why I decided to do that because most Percy stories have Annabeth acting like a bitchy ass slut. Yeah she's a blonde but she isn't that type of blonde that bangs every guy she sees. SHE LOVES PERCY! GET THAT IN YOUR HEADS! WHY DESTROY SOMETHING THAT RICK RIORDAN WORKED SO HARD ON TO MAKE IT FAMOUS!? IT PISSES ME OFF WHEN I SEE WRITERS MAKE ANNABETH CHEAT ON PERCY. The only story that had an acceptable "Annabeth cheats on Percy" idea was "Athlon, Chaos' Commander of the Universe" by Lmb111514. Other than that, Annabeth cheating on Percy is a bad idea.
A/N3: I have decided that there will be part 2 two this story known as An Assassins Legacy. That's all I will be revealing for now.
A/N4: I just want to say thank you to all that read, liked, followed, and REVIEWED this story. I know I've been focusing on this particular story more than my other ones but I promise you I will upload more chapters to my other stories, they aren't dead. This story is just being completed faster because of the ideas and drive that I have towards it. Another thing that I want to say is that I got an inbox saying that my writing style is weird, and I take that as a compliment :D. Yes my writing style is weird, more dialogue than descriptive. That's because I want you, the readers, to make it seem like you're reading a movie unfolding inside your head, in front of your eyes, and in your own imagination. Confusing? I don't think so: P
A/N5: Also, in a future chapter, I promise you an epic battle that hasn't been seen before in PJO/HOO Fanfiction history. Stay tuned for more. Also, should I continue to write long chapters that will take time to upload or short chapters that will allow me to upload frequently?
A Hunter's Lament
Chapter Seven
King of the hill
(Artemis pov)
Δ Camp Olympus Δ
A full week had passed since the war meeting at camp. Either the senators were still discussing if demigods were in a state of war or they chose to do nothing was both a waste of time. Despite the wait, I had taken the short vacation to grow the ranks of the hunters. As a result, our numbers went from a hundred to a hundred and fifty, and they all hated men.
Once they had taken their oath of chastity sisterhood for the hunt, I began training them in archery, hunting, knife combat, and hand to hand fighting. I was glad that the fifty new comers were fast learners but they had yet to test their skills in a real hunt and in combat.
As soon as breakfast was over, I took my hunters and began drilling them again at the archery range where we spent two hours firing at straw dummies as well as boys who had the nerve to sneak in and watch us. Unfortunately I had promised Chiron not to turn his campers into hunting animals; I regretted making that promise now.
But the boys kept coming; it was as if they haven't seen a girl fire an arrow before. After I had caught the seventeenth boy trying to sneak in, I was ready to shoot the next on sight or worse, turn him into a deer and let my wolves chase after him. Luckily there were no interruptions for a while...then the last one happened. This time he had on some sort of magical item that granted him invisibility but that couldn't hide him from the eyes of a Goddess. In an instant, I had him pinned against a wall with my knife against his throat while I tore off his helmet. Giving him only five seconds to run, I took out my bow and arrow and took aim at him as he darted towards the door, "Five, four, three, two...one!"
I released the arrow and watched as it flew in the air straight towards the back of the boy, looks like Chiron was gonna have his hands full with some angry parents of a dead son. Suddenly, the arrow stopped just inches away from the boys back, it hovered in the air for a couple of seconds until it burst into flame; turning into a pile of burnt wood and hot metal. Then the door opened to reveal a hard faced Percy with his hood down, his dark sea green eyes glancing to me then at the boy cowering in front of him, "Count yourself lucky kid, get out."
Stepping aside, he watched the boy run out of the range squealing before stepping inside and closing the door behind him. Ignoring my questioning look along with the hateful glares of my hunters, he strode up to the far end of the range and unsheathed his bow blades and began shooting arrows in quick successions.
There was never a rapid fire system or technique with a bow; after all it was the world's primitive sniper rifle before the first matchlock came into existence. But watching him fire off his arrows, that bow and arrow rapid fire myth was quickly shattered. One, two, three, four, five, six arrows and more left his bow in less than a third of a second. All of his targets, moving and not moving, were all hit by direct hits and kill shots. Even one dummy was reduced to shreds with the massive bunch of arrows impaled into the wall right behind where it once stood. Then, as if to signal the end of his target practice, his bow formed one last arrow; this time it was glowing a very light blue, and released it down range. As it sailed through the air, the arrow flashed brightly then shot out multiple arrows into the air. It sunk right into a straw dummy, right in the head where the eyes were spaced. The other arrows hit their targets too, targets in every single range including the ones that my hunters were using.
I stood there speechless, not even Apollo and I combined couldn't do that!
Percy on the other hand looked like he was displeased as he stared down range at the dummies he had obliterated with his arrows, "Eh, I could always do better."
He shouldered his bow blades and turned but stopped when he saw me gawking at him, "What?"
Before I could answer, one of my hunters, a newbie, growled and marched up to him with an arrow aimed right at his head, "You will not speak to Lady Artemis like that!"
Percy raised one of his eye brows and snapped his fingers, a red wisp of smoke escaping his fingers. The hunter yelped in shock as her weapon was forced to drop on the ground covered in red mist, a power of Ares/Mars. Seeing their sister disarmed by a male, the rest of the hunters raised their weapons and took aim but were all met with the same problem when Percy snapped his fingers in his other hand causing all of them to drop their weapons only to be covered in red mist as well.
"What is up with you teaching your hunters to hate guys?" He asked looking straight at me wanting answers, "Not all of them are pigs and heartbreakers."
My hands found their way to my hips and I narrowed my eyes glaring at him, "True but you can never let your guard down around men; they tend to take advantage when they have the chance."
"Yeah but they're hunters not the freaking Amazons or the Valkyries," he replied muttering, "At least they still manage to hang around guys."
The hunter Susan snorted at his words, "Do not compare us to the Amazons! We are stronger than them because we absolutely despise men! As for the Valkyries, please the Vikings can't match up to us. Stupid barbarians."
Percy bore his eyes into Susan's who flinched and looked down, "I've seen the Amazons and I can already tell who the victor would be if the two groups went head to head with each other. As for the Valkyries, you girls would be sent to Valhalla within seconds."
The Hunters who already new Percy weren't as pissed off as the ones that barely knew him at all. Knowing that their primary weapon was gone all of them unsheathed their knives and crouched down in battle stances.
With things about to get out of hand, I held up my hand barking out an order, "Stay your blades! Save it for the hunt."
"Or tonight's war game," Phoebe smirked, she loved participating in the camps war games whenever we would visit, "It's Campers vs. Hunters for Capture the Flag. Maybe this time it will be interesting with Percy on their team."
I looked over at Percy to his face break into a smirk that I have seen only once but heard so much about from Thalia, "Fine, challenge accepted. But just a heads up its spec op campers vs. hunters, they're throwing the best they have against you."
Phoebe laughed and held her chin up high as she crossed her arms, "Special Ops? Ha! That just means they're putting us against their Immortal Campers. Nico, Frank, Hazel, Leo, Reyna, Clarisse, Chris, Piper, Travis, Connor, Will, Malcom, Jake, Katie, Dakota, Bobby, we've gone up against them and won time after time. The only threats they have are Nico, Frank, Leo, Reyna, and Piper. Also Thalia's brother Jason, but he's a Consul now."
Percy shrugged and made his way towards the door. He stopped and glanced over at us over his shoulder and spoke, "I don't think tonight's match will be that easy for you to win."
Apparently word had spread around camp that Percy was to part take in tonight's Capture the Flag match against the Campers vs. Hunters. Not to mention all the talk about the newly mentioned and unknown Special Forces Campers that was to make their debut tonight when going up against my hunters.
Was I worried? No, but it didn't hurt to prepare. Ever since the two camps fused together, each time there was a Capture the Flag match against them and my hunters, it progressed to the point where it was neck to neck. I hated to say it but in only two years, the demigods of Camp Olympus were getting stronger than before.
So just to pass the time, and to make sure that the campers won't forget who's the strongest, I drilled my Hunters until the dinner horn blew in the distance. Game time.
"You think their so called 'Spec Ops' can finally even the score against us?" Asked Thalia as the Hunters made their way into the dinning pavilion, "The way that everyone's talking about them makes it sound like tonight's Capture the Flag will be interesting."
"Ha! Interesting as in another win for the Hunters," mocked Phoebe, "The campers have never and will never win against us. They are unorganized and have boys on their teams. Piece of cake if you ask me."
Another hunter rolled her eyes, "But we didn't ask you Phoebe, I agree with what you said about the campers but remember they have Percy on their team."
Susan grunted her nose pointing into the air with her arms crossed over her chest, "I say you are giving that boy too much credit. , like he'll make a difference being on their team."
Thalia raised an eye brow at Susan, "You do remember what he did in Denmark and at Coney Island right? He single handedly took out creatures that we've never faced before without taking a single hit. Campers, yes they aren't a problem, but with Percy...he's gonna use them as cannon fodder then attack us full force."
"I'd like to see him try," muttered Susan, "My arrow will be waiting for him when he does."
My sister looked at me and shook her head, "Sometimes I wonder if your hate towards boys has rubbed off on some of the hunters way too much for them to handle."
"I see no problem with it," I replied with smirk, "I think they're doing quite well, honoring their hunter oath to the highest degree."
She shook her head but allowed a small smile to form on her lips as we separated to our respective tables. Slowly the entire dinning pavilion began to fill with campers and soldiers until people had to shout over each other just to be heard. One by one, tables of each cabin got up to make offerings to the Gods until Chiron got up to speak, "Good evening Campers! Tonight is a special night for the camp as we host the tradition of Capture the Flag, Campers vs. Hunters!"
A chorus of roars and cheers emanated from the campers while my hunters simply kept to themselves, they were already used to this.
Chiron continued with the dinner pep rally, "As you all have heard, the Hunters will be facing the best that this camp has to offer, our newly formed and highly trained, Special Operations Campers!"
Suddenly, ten figures materialized right behind Chiron; silencing the crowd instantly. They stood tall, over six feet and cladded in bronze and black armor from head to toe. Their armor was a mesh between modern and ancient, more machine than human. I looked over to my hunters who sat there with their jaws dropping to the floor, this is what they had to go up against tonight...and for once I was utterly afraid for them.
"They are code named SPARTANS, after the legendary Spartans from Ancient Sparta," Chiron stepped back and bowed towards the SPARTANS who knelt down and placed an arm across their chest with an armored fist right over their heart, "They are bred for war and dangerous missions, even monsters held high in myths tremble in their presence. Hunters of Artemis, SPARTANS of Camp Olympus, tonight's Capture the Flag will be-"
"Cancelled," Every single head in the room turned to see Percy walking up towards the head table with his hood off, "I will not fight with the SPARTANS, it's an overkill against the Hunters."
My Hunters quickly began to protest as well as the rest of the campers but died down when Percy held up his hands silencing them immediately, "The Hunters are experienced warriors, the SPARTANS are strong and powerful, built to destroy and annihilate monsters and possibly the Olympians but inexperienced in the fires of combat."
"So what do you suggest then Percy?" I sat back in my chair looking at him with narrowed eyes, "Capture the Flag has always been a tradition here."
Percy returned my gaze then looked over to the immortal campers sitting at the head table, "I believe Reyna has an idea on what to do."
Now all eyes turned towards Reyna who had a knowing smirk on her lips, "Are you suggesting we do a King of the Hill?"
"Yes," grinned back Percy, "Exactly what I was thinking."
"The rule of King of the Hill is simple," stated Reyna as the entire camp gathered at the Coliseum, "The first one to make it up the hill must defend the hill top until every single attacker is defeated. Depending on how strong the defender is, this may go back and forth or end pretty quickly."
Chiron tapped his front hoof, his hand resting underneath his chin deep in thought, "So it's a free for all then, no teams, just a mob of warriors clambering up the hill to defend it. It's a great idea no doubt, but I believe it won't sit well with the rest of the campers and hunters who expected a team on team battle."
"Or we can mesh the idea of King of the Hill and Capture the Flag together," Frank looked up at the growing hilltop in the center of Coliseum, "There will be a blank flag on top of the hill, there will also be two teams. The team to get there first will automatically turn the flag into their symbol and must defend it from being over runned by the enemy team. If they fail to do so, the flag will shift to the other team's symbol and it will be their turn to defend until they are defeated or they defeat every single attacker. Usually there is a time limit but in this case, let's leave it out for now."
Reyna and Chiron both nodded, approving Frank's suggestion, yet not everyone did agree with him, "That just leaves one problem; I'm still on a team with the SPARTANS."
Percy crossed his arms and glanced at the SPARTANS and Hunters gathering at the bottom of the hill, his dark sea green eyes flickering back and forth at each warrior as if he was trying to break down their strengths and weaknesses in quick rapid looks, "How about three teams instead of two, it will make things a little more interesting. Plus it will be a good way to see just how good the SPARTANS are."
A low growl escaped my lips causing Percy to look over at me with an eye brow raised, "What's wrong Artemis?"
"You're forgetting that my Hunters are a force not to be reckoned with, especially if they're going up against males. Will it be a tough fight for them? Yes, but they will end up as the victors nonetheless," I said crossing my arms and huffing out the rest of my frustration, "And make no mistake Percy, they will not hold back against the SPARTANS and you."
Instead of what I had hoped to hear, all I got was that same challenging smirk that I had seen in the archery range earlier today, "The challenge excites me. It's been too long since I've seen the Hunters in action as well as the Campers. If today's match shows me how far both sides have come, it will prove to me that this Camp and its allies are ready."
My eyes widened but quickly narrowed back into slits, "What do you mean 'ready'? Ready for what?"
Percy simply winked before heading off towards the hill, deliberately avoiding the question. Chiron, Reyna, and the rest of the immortal campers were curious as well, what was Percy hiding from us?
(Λ Percy's pov)
ΑΣΩ Camp Olympus, Coliseum SPQR
It took a full week for things to finally get rolling, a full week that was either going to benefit us or bite us in the ass in this upcoming war. I also hadn't heard from Chaos since that early morning encounter with my dad and Athena which was starting to agitate me like a rash. In my past experiences with him, he would only distance himself from me if he was either planning or hiding something from me.
And that made the rash-like-agitation much, much worse.
But the week of silence had its benefits. It had allowed me to catch up with the friends I had left behind here at camp after the Second Giant War. I learned that there were minor skirmishes and battles with remnants of Kronos' and Gaea's armies but they were put down shortly after being started. Turns out that Oceanus finally had the guts to lay another siege on my father's palace, and would have won too if it weren't for Jason, Piper, Leo, and my brother Tyson leading the defense and counter attack against the Sea Titans forces. As a result Jason was promoted to the rank of Consul, a rank higher than Praetor.
After his promotion, he was required to stay up on Olympus to command the now joint Greek and Roman armies residing there. Seeing the camp in its new infancy stage, he tasked Reyna and Leo to reinstate and train a new Praetorian guard to serve as the camps first special forces with a single task: protect the boundaries and new arriving demigods at all cost. Both Reyna and Leo were reluctant at first but agreed to work on the task together and in no time, Leo's charm had indeed brought happiness into Reyna's life. But despite that, the Romans still needed another Praetor and the Greeks wanted a representative to fuse both armies at the camp. The first choice was to anoint Leo as the first Greek Praetor but he declined it, he was already the head councilor for the Hephaestus cabin, which was enough responsibility for him already.
They then went with their next choice and thankfully he said yes, but it still was a shocker to me when I found out that Nico was the second Praetor for the Camp Olympus army. Unlike Reyna who proudly showed off her rank and medals, Nico kept it simple by switching his normal black shirt and black aviator jacket with an orange camp Half-blood t-shirt with a purple Roman Praetor tunic over it.
Frank and Hazel also experienced a change in the two years I had disappeared; Hazel was now a Centurion while Frank became the camps Primus Pilus Immunes Praetorian which meant the camps and Legion's leading Centurion and leader of the Praetorian Guard. Two years with so many changes since the two camps fused together, two years of me missing out on so many things that it almost made me regret leaving. Almost all my friends had been given the gift of immortality and had joined the Legion or start lives of their own at camp while others tried their luck to live a normal life in the outside world, but the one that would hit me the most would be facing my mother again. What would she say if I showed up at her doorstep after disappearing unexpectedly for two years? How would she react?
The different scenarios of what would happen almost drove my mind into madness but thankfully the arrival of the traditional Capture the Flag: Hunters vs. Campers took my mind off of the constant "What if" barrage.
That was until Chaos contacted me the night before.
It was evening, just several hours since dinner had ended. Surprisingly, despite the two camps fusing, they still had camp sing alongs before going off to their cabins and forts before the day drew to a close. Memories of camp fire sing alongs back when I was first here at camp kept replaying in my mind as both Greek and Roman melodies were played and sung by the Music Gods children.
With nothing to do, I just sat there in the trees leaning back against the trunk as I gazed up at the stars listening and remembering as the night went on.
I had closed my eyes, relaxing for a moment until the tree branch I was sitting on vibrated with movement. Having been gone a while, it took me some time to sort out the visitor on my tree branch but I eventually remembered, "Long time no see G-man, how's The Lord of the Wild doing?"
Grover smiled and looked up at the stars, "Sorry it took a week for me to finally get a chance to talk to you Percy. I've been busy with demigod recruitment and wilderness protection. Humans are evil."
"And the Gods are rabbits," I replied with a laugh which made Grover laugh as well, "I understand Grover, I've always understood why; there's no need for you to apologize to me ever."
The smile on my best friends face disappeared and was replaced by a frown, "No...I do have to say sorry."
"What do you mean Grover?"
His bottom lip trembled as his eyes looked down in shame, "I wasn't a very good friend when Annabeth died. Instead of being there for my best bud, I let my duties of the wild take control of me. I felt like I abandoned you, many people felt like they abandoned you. For that I'm sorry."
I didn't reply to him right then, instead I kept silent and continued gazing up at the stars. Grover didn't leave; he must've probably felt my emotions weren't on the negative side after what he had said. To be honest, he never abandoned me, no one did. They all tried their best to be there for me while grieving over Annabeth also. It was I that abandoned them, mentally, emotionally, and definitely physically.
"It was my second year at camp where I first gazed up at the stars," I finally said, "Annabeth and I had just told the camp of the Golden Fleece and how it would boost up the borders and heal Thalia's pine tree if we went on a quest to retrieve it but our lovely camp director at the time denied the request, as well as Mr. D."
"Dude, after what you did to Mr. D a week ago when you came back, I doubt he would ever deny any of your request again," laughed Grover, "And I guess you're talking about dear old Tantalus?"
A huge grin/smirk appeared on my lips, "The one and only."
We both began to laugh again as the night went on. We traded stories back and forth just as the entire camp traded stories amongst each other down below us. It was only when the last embers of the camp fire began to wane, Grover wiped his tears from laughter and sighed taking collective breath at the same time, "I'm glad you're back Percy, not a day goes by where I missed you."
I looked at Grover and patted his shoulder, "I missed you too Grover, I missed everybody here."
Then it was silence, no sounds besides the crickets and the gentle breeze coming from the ocean. The campers had finished there singing and stories a while ago but we only did we notice their absence. Grover and I stayed sitting on that branch a little longer before a yawn escaped his mouth, "Thank gods that it's the weekend, maybe I can get a good night's sleep on a bed for once instead of sleeping on a pile of leaves. I'll see you later Percy."
I nodded and watched him climb down the tree until he reached the bottom of the tree trunk. Looking back up, he waved a final goodnight before turning and heading off into the Satyr part of the woods, but was stopped in his tracks as a black vortex appeared just inches in front of him.
Yelling in fear, he stumbled backwards falling on his shaggy hind quarters as I landed besides him in an Iron Man kneel/crouch. Slowly, I rose up just in time to see Chaos emerge from the black swirling vortex, his cosmic colored eyes were vibrating from exhaustion, "Percy, Lord Grover, sorry for the unexpected appearance but it's urgent."
Grover stood up from his spot on the ground and dusted off his fur before looking at Chaos, "Lord Chaos! Forgive me for being startled, it's not every day I meet the Void God."
Chaos laughed, but I could tell that it was a forced laughed from the exhaustion in his eyes, "It's quite alright, if it's okay with you, I wish to speak to Percy alone."
No "Thank you" nor a "please", Chaos wasn't asking, he was demanding it. Grover must've sensed the hidden tone in Chaos' words because he quickly bowed and made his way into the woods to retire for the night. After he left, a blanket of silence surrounded us until he managed speak, "I have met with the Olympians, they wanted more clarity on this 'war'. During my time with the Olympians, we recieved a visitor...he was a Primalordial."
My spine sent tingles throughout my entire body upon hearing the word Primalordial, "Who was it? What Primal God did you meet?"
"Ether," mumbled Chaos, "Ether, Primal God of heavenly light."
I felt my eyes nearly bulge out of their sockets, after three thousand years of hiding and isolation, the first Primal God besides Gaea made their appearance. What was more surprising was that they made themselves known to the Olympians.
"What happened? Why did Ether show himself to the Olympians?"
Chaos pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head, a sign that he was clearly upset over something, "The Primals want to wage war against the Crothean but they have means to wage it completely. In this case, total annihilation of the humans."
My brow scrunched up together, a curious and clueless look appearing on my face, "What do you mean total annihilation of the humans? This is their world not the Primals! If they wanted the humans gone then they should've been the ones to be Olympians!"
"Percy, in the first war against Primals and Crotheans, humans were yet to be created. This planet was only in its infancy. We're talking about landscapes of roaring magma flowing freely as the oceans while sulfuric gasses acting as the air that humans breathe. Clouds so thick nitrogen and carbon with raging storms that never ended," Chaos looked then closing them again as he turned and looked out into the dark horizon of the night over the Atlantic Ocean, "That was what earth was like when Crotheans were in power. Only their kind survived and thrived in that type of climate. When I came back to this planet to begin working on it, I was met with an attack by their first king and the father of this new Crothean. I was out numbered and out gunned, the raw power of the young earth empowering them with limitless power."
"So that's why you created the Primals...," I said as realization hit me, "You created anti-Crotheans."
"Something like that. The Primals were created to mature the course of fate and destiny that I had planned for this world. When Erebus was born, the other Primals followed suit. Back then, their names weren't tied to the subject of power that they were god of, instead they were each an offspring of the void. During the first battle, they called themselves Primalordials while the Crotheans called them Protheans. Neither side lost or gained ground, it was a fight leading into a deadly deadlock."
"Then what? How did the Primals turn the tide?"
"Erebus died, the first of the Primals to fall in battle. As soon as he died though, he separated, body and spirit. He was the first to dwell in the place of the in-between where death dwelled before going back into the realm of the living or staying on the other side," a look of amusement appeared on Chaos' lips before continuing, "In other words, they began to find their symbolic powers. Once Erebus found his symbol powers, Night soon followed with his own. Next came Love, her symbol power was achieved when she sacrificed herself to save Ether. As a result, her love for Ether awakened her symbol power allowing her to survive the ordeal. Ether and Day soon followed for their symbol powers were nearly identical. Many of the other Primals quickly found their symbol powers also but it was Ouranos and Gaea whose symbol powers would really turn the tide of the war. Once in control of the very earth and sky itself, Gaea and Ouranos unleashed their powers full potential. Within a single day, the Crotheans were dying, their bodies unaccustomed to the rapid changes of the environment. Ouranos made the sky cleaner, more breathable and for things to grow while Gaea made the ground fertile and solid with oceans of grass and rock while working with Pontus in creating the oceans. The Crotheans couldn't survive in these changes; they only survived on the raw dark energy of the planets former self. Their genocide gave us the push we needed to end the war and it finally did end when the first year had come to pass. It was during that time that Gaea was impregnated with the King Crotheans seed then giving birth to their offspring who she hid deep within the earth so he could never rise. Now the last Crothean is back and is creating an army of experimented monsters from Greek and Roman myths. To combat this...the Primals want to wage total war, destroy everything and start over again, from scratch."
"And how do they plan on doing that?" I asked with my arms crossed against my chest, "If they return the earth back to its infancy state then it will only make the Crothean stronger."
A dark look suddenly appeared on Chaos' face, a clear sign that whatever had happened with the unexpected arrival of the Primal Ether with the Olympians hadn't gone so well, "Not if you plan on destroying the planet."
Everything around me felt like they froze in place at his words, it didn't make any sense at all, "You mean...destroy earth? As in," I clapped my hands together and made an "explosion" gesture in the air with my arms as Chaos nodded in response, "They want to blow up the planet!?"
The creator nodded his head, his cosmic eyes glowing bright red, the color of a super-giant star that was ready to go supernova or implode into a black hole, "Being Primals, if they wanted to, they can destroy this world and simply create a new one. They are after all my children and nieces and nephews, their blood is still fresh and rich with void DNA. As long as every single Primalordial is alive, they can create a new earth and basically redo history, no Titans, no Olympians, no Giants, no humans, no demigods. Whatever they didn't like now, they can prevent that from actually happening on a new earth."
A sudden thought rang in my head, something he had said didn't quite make any sense, "Wait, you said if all the Primalordials are alive, they can accomplish this feat on creating a new earth. Last I check the Crothean killed Ouranos, which means that the Primals don't have a Primal Sky God to help them destroy this earth and create a new one."
That same dark look appeared on Chaos' face again as he countered back at my reason, "Why do you think Ether went to the Olympians. What god do the Olympians have that controls the sky?"
"Zeus," I muttered in shock, the sudden realization hitting me like a freight train, "They want Zeus to become the next Primal Sky God. But he refused them right?"
He nodded though the look he was showing said otherwise, "He denied them but, the offer was tempting. Nevertheless, if any of the Primal Gods that have Olympian doubles are taken out, they will simply ask or try to persuade the selected Olympian to join them. Once their full power is restored, let's just say that the very ground we are standing on will no longer exist."
Well that was satisfying to hear, now not only were we at war with the Crothean but also with the Primals if we didn't comply with them. I just love three ways!
"So what now?" I asked throwing my hands up in the air, "How do we tell a bunch of scared demigods in togas that they are at war with the Primals as well as the Crotheans. Camp Olympus can't wage war on two fronts; this war was already lost to them before it even started."
"Unless the Olympians and Demigods prove to the Primals that they are a force to be reckon with," The God of Creation crossed his arms behind his back and continued to look out into the ocean from our vantage point at the camp fire, "If the Primals see that this world can be protected, saved, then maybe the Primals will join the fight with the Olympians."
I was skeptic, but there was some sense in his words, "Are all the Primals in agreement with total war or are there some that oppose it?"
"A few but only a few, the rest of them agree to the terms of total war," replied Chaos, "And those few are some of the minor Primalordials."
Again the skepticism nagged at the back of my brain, "So how do we prove to them that the Olympians and Demigods can fight off the Crotheans without destroying the earth?"
"Tomorrow, the entire camp will honor the tradition of its Capture the Flag against the Hunters of Artemis. The Camp is tired of losing and this time they will test their newly formed and highly trained special force campers against Artemis' hunters," Chaos turned his head and gazed at me with a determine look, his cosmic eyes now settling into the burning blue of a star, "But, you need to see how they fight firsthand. Before the match even begins, you must find a way to put yourself against them, both the Campers and Hunters. Observe and see for yourself if they have what it takes to stand up to the Crotheans and Primals. Tomorrow, the fate of this world will hang on your words Percy. Tomorrow determines if this war is already lost or we have a chance."
This led me to this, me standing on a mound of grass at the bottom of a makeshift hill inside the camps Coliseum. After a week of doing nothing, it was good to get some action in but Chaos' words deterred me from having any fun in this situation. I had to participate to observe the SPARTANS and Hunters in battle, then report to Chaos to see if this Camp is actually ready for a war they had never fought in before.
I checked my armor and weapons to make sure everything was in place before casting my glance over to the Hunters to see who was participating. There was Thalia who was busy strapping her new collapsing lightning spear to her back with her quiver full of arrows while the rest of the hunters on her team-Phoebe, Susan, and several of the oldest and battle hardened veterans-checked their wide array of arrows, each with a different feature making it an uncanny danger on the battlefield. Then my eyes shifted over to the third mound where my true focus was needed.
The Hunters had twenty on their side, but the newly introduced SPARTANS had only ten, five male and five female. They were cladded from head to toe in black armor resembling a modern Greek Musculata and a Roman Legionnaire chest plate, grieves, and gauntlets which shimmered in Celestial Bronze, Imperial Gold, Hunter Silver, Stygian Iron, and Mortal steel. The most striking the feature was their helmets, the front looked like an ancient Spartans helmet (A/N like the ones from 300) while everything else mirrored an Ion schutt 4D football helmet (A/N if it's hard to imagine, I understand. I based the helmet look and design from a shirt my friend wore two years ago. His eldest brother was a football player at Michigan State and his shirt had the depicted helmet. What you can do is look up the football helmet and the Spartan helmet and Photoshop them together.). Where their eyes should be was a glowing crimson light as a shadow barrier covered the part where their mouth was supposed to be exposed. That and most likely heavily ripped with muscles underneath all that armor made the Hades' Helm of Darkness a play toy.
One of them looked at me, the tallest and biggest out of the bunch. He nodded his head, a signal of friendly competition which I returned it back with a nod of my own. To his left stood probably the shortest of the bunch. Just by looking at the armored figured I could tell that it was a female. She glanced up at her hulking comrade then towards me before tilting her head to the side; I didn't need to see her face to know that strangely, she was smiling at me.
Before I could return her smile, a horn sounded off throughout the entire stadium as Chiron trotted up a make shift ramp leading into a single large suite where Artemis, Mr. D, immortal campers, and the rest of the hunters sat as the war game was about to begin, "Campers! Today's war game is King of the Hill!"
A roar of cheers escaped the campers, a bewildered Gabby sat on Hazel's lap staring at the crowd before turning her little eyes back to me, mouthing the words, "People are loud!"
Holding back a chuckle, I glanced over at Thalia who was also trying to suppress a giggle after seeing Gabby complain. If she hadn't joined the hunters then she would've been a great mother to her children.
"Competing today are the Hunters of Artemis, the Spartans of Camp Olympus, and our returning hero Percy Jackson! Hero of the second Titan and Giant wars!" If the ongoing chorus of cheers wasn't already loud enough, it was shown on Gabby's face when she huffed and covered her ears with her tiny hands. Frank laughed and gently placed his Praetorian helmet on Gabby's head which ultimately made her smile and look up at him making the oversized helmet slide down her face.
Another blast of the horn resonated throughout the Coliseum as both the Hunters and Spartans prepared for battle. The Hunters readied their bows and notched three arrows pulling them back against the string while the Spartans reached behind them and mysteriously pulled out round shields and different types of weapons out of thin air.
Pulling my hood on, I stood there waiting as Chiron raised a hand and dropped it signaling the final horn blow to start off the game. For a split second none of us moved, each side waiting to see who would act first.
Thunder suddenly rumbled in the distance before a flash of lightning shot down at where I was standing as well as where the Spartans were positioned. King of the Hill had begun. As soon as the smoke had cleared from the impact of lightning against earth, I saw the Hunters charging up the hill while Thalia stayed back with her spear raised into the air, she had made the first move. Her Hunters were storming up the hill unmatched until a black blur emerged from the other side of the hill lunging towards them with a sword raised. In an instant, Thalia was there to meet the attacker as her shield blocked the Spartan's sword. She shoved the armored warrior away then followed it up with a thrust of her spear but that too was blocked by the Spartans own shield. All too soon, the Hunters and Spartans were engaged in a deadly stand still as both sides held their ground. My eyes were darting from each fight that was brewing on top of that hill. I saw the massive Spartan fighting off Phoebe and three other veteran Hunters, his shield and sledge hammer keeping the arrows and knives of the hunters at bay as he dodged and countered with powerful yet fast swings. Susan and one Spartan were dueling it out with knives and two bronze disks that glowed a familiar bright green glow at the outer edge of the circled weapon.
They were evenly matched. Neither side gained dominance over the hill as they traded blows. Somehow the Hunters disengaged from their single fights and regrouped just long enough to aim their arrows at the Spartans. Upon seeing this, the giant Spartan barked out an order as one male Spartan stepped forward and thrusted his hands out making some sort of pulsating dome of energy encasing them just as the arrows began raining down above their heads. Thalia barked an order of her own as the Hunters reloaded their bows with arrows, this time the tips were now armed with lightning.
Even the sky boomed with thunder again as a streak of lightning shot down from the sky and connected with Thalia's spear as she yelled, "Fire!"
A wave of crackling arrows followed by a single massive bolt of lightning flew straight towards the Spartan's domed shield. Multiple explosions rippled across its surface as the Spartan strained to keep it up, another hit and the shield would collapse. Thalia readied another charged up lightning shot, this one being more powerful than the last. She aimed her spear right at the dome and fired a massive sphere of lightning as it charred a path towards the Spartans. It seemed to be over for the Campers but the giant Spartan had a trick up his sleeve.
Grabbing his hammer with both hands, he swung forward right before the ball of lightning collided with the shield. The flat surface of the sledge hammer slammed into Thalia's attack, sending it hurling back at the Hunters. Thalia growled and raised her shield just as the ball of lightning slammed against its magical surface. Shoving it aside, she dropped her shield next to her feet and winced as beads of sweat slid down her face, she was completely drained of energy.
Phoebe and the rest of the Hunters pulled Thalia behind them to shield her as they readied their arrows for another round, "Guess it's time to intervene."
(Artemis' pov)
*Coliseum*
I sat there in my seat as a smug smile appeared on my lips, my silver eyes glancing over at Chiron and Dionysus, "I guess my Hunters win this time again my dear brothers. That just shows how a group of trained females can always prevail against men."
Dionysus rolled his eyes and made a can of diet coke appear in his hand before taking a sip, "I never liked this camp anyways. Besides my kids, father chose my punishment well."
"How about you Chiron?" I shifted my gaze to the Centaur who was in deep thought while watching the King of the Hill match play out in front of him, "Any comments on my Hunters ninety-seventh victory?"
Chiron looked at me from the corner of his eyes and scoffed, "I wouldn't be too sure about victory just yet."
Before I could even ask, the little girl Gabby yelled out in surprise, "Where Percy?"
Percy.
I snapped my eyes back to the field, scanning every inch of the area looking for Percy. I was so focused on the fight between my Hunters and the Spartans that I forgot to keep an eye on that son of Poseidon.
"Where is he?" I heard myself mutter as I continued to scan the hill, "Where did he go?"
A sudden cloud of dirt shot up in the air just off towards the right of the Spartans, a figure in black and blue robes amidst the rubble as it landed down in-between the two groups. Now the entire crowd was on the edge of their seats as Percy had finally decided to join the fray, his calm stature making people squirm with anticipation. He looked at the Spartans, then at the Hunters, his expression unreadable underneath his hood. From the Hunters stepped forward Susan and lunged at him with her arrow aimed right at his chest.
"Susan no!" Yelled Thalia but it was too late as the Hunter released her arrow, the silver projectile sailing straight toward Percy with deadly accuracy.
Nico gripped the edge of his armrest hard growling as he watched, "Artemis that arrow is at point blank range! Percy won't have time to dodge it!"
I was too shocked to register his words as the arrow neared its target. We all watched in horror as the silver arrow struck Percy in the chest...then bursting out of his back like he was made of paper. Susan and the other hunters stepped back, surprised and shocked as Percy glitched for a second before disappearing completely. Just then, a loud screech sounded from above as a huge glowing bird of some kind shot down from the sky and slammed into the top of the hill blinding everyone in a bright light. When the light had died down, everyone saw the ground of the hill ripple outward like shockwaves as both the Hunters and Spartans were thrown back to their starting positions at the base of the hill.
Groaning and grunting, Thalia rose back up and arched her head back to see Percy standing there on the hill, the blank flag slowly shimmering with the mark of Chaos in its center, "I guess I'm king of the hill."
She growled and charged up the hill alone, the rest of the Hunters on the other hand were still recovering from the shockwave. On the other side, charged the Spartans but Thalia got to Percy first as she leapt high into the air and stabbed her spear down into Percy's chest. Percy side stepped and reached out grabbing the shaft of her weapon before pulling her forward and slammed his knee into her stomach. A sound of an anguished grunt escaped her lips as she landed on her back sliding down the hill weaponless, her hands hugging her stomach as she came to a halt against one of the starting mounds. With Thalia's spear in his hands, he spun around and whacked a Spartan hard on the head then ducking down to the right only to stand back up and whacking another Spartan on the back of the head then slapping the spear against the Spartan again on its armored stomach as the armored warrior flipped in midair from the first strike to the head. An arrow shot past his face as Phoebe charged up the hill firing her arrows like a crazy person, but none of them were lucky enough to stop Percy as he twirled Thalia's spear to deflect them. It was almost like he had a sixth sense; spinning around again and tripping another Spartan with his spear then brutally striking the warrior in the face with his forearm making him flip and land on his stomach then kicking him down the hill.
He then returned his attention back to Phoebe and threw the spear. I gasped as it impaled her on the side but it only got the loose baggy end of her silver sweater jacket. It didn't hurt her, but it startled her, giving Percy enough time to run up to her and wrapped an arm around her neck then hurling her at three new charging Hunters coming up the hill. She slammed into them with a bone crushing force as the four of them tumbled down the hill only to crash into the rest of the Hunters who were now trying to reorganize themselves to get back into the fight.
Seeing that the Hunters where taken care of, Percy turned his attention to the Spartans. Three were down, seven more to go and they weren't planning on making things easy for him. The first to challenge him was the Spartan with the weird glowing disks for weapons. He stepped into a wide stance then spun sideways and threw his disks at Percy who flipped in midair as one disk passed him from below and above. He landed on one knee and ducked his head just a bit as both disks flew back the way they came and were caught by the Spartans hands.
He slowly stood back up and shook his wrists, two seven inch blades sliding out from underneath his gauntlets with a rim of blue glowing energy outlining the blades. The Spartan smirked and got into a fighting stance as Percy took a step towards his opponent before shifting into a dead run. Both were soon charging at each other, their weapons moving up and down in a blur until the two of them collided at the top of the hill. It was a show of lights mixed with sounds of metal clashing on metal as both Percy and the Spartan exchanged heavy yet quick blows that had my eyes shifting back and forth constantly. Percy jabbed forward with his hidden blade but ended up being blocked by the Spartans disk, his other disk weapon coming to strike Percy. Raising his free arm, Percy blocked the disk then shoving the Spartan away and round house kicked him on the chest, sending the armored warrior flying back several feet.
The Spartan shrugged off the attack and lunged at Percy with his disks swinging from his fists like punching gloves. They both moved with such grace, neither one of them giving up ground as they attacked, blocked, then counter attacked over and over again. After what seemed like forever, Percy finally managed to get the upper hand. He twisted to the side as the Spartan swung heavily from the right making him lean forward a little bit. Seeing this, Percy quickly grabbed his wrist with both hands then flipped the Spartan over using his momentum. Then he released the Spartans wrist and stomped on the ground as a column of earth shot up from the hill and slammed into the Spartans stomach in mid flip. Everyone gasped; I guess they could tell that the Spartan wasn't going to be able to eat right for a while.
Just like the others, he too was soon tumbling down the hill. Another Spartan down.
"At least make it a challenge for me!" He boasted, kneeling down to pick up the disk shaped weapons that the Spartan had dropped, "The best of the best that the camp and Artemis has to offer and here I am taking you guys out with your own weapons." Percy began channeling his powers into the disks, the bronze edges turning into a blue glow instead of their original green, "In order to beat me, fight me as one, or fail as two."
Both the Spartans and the Hunters shifted from foot to foot uneasily, this wasn't what they were expecting to do.
Chiron stroked his beard, his head slightly nodding as if he had finally figured something out, "He's testing them, to see if they can work together."
Leo scratched his head, his eyes showed that he was really confused by all of this, "So now the Hunters and Spartans have to work together? The rules can't change in King of the Hill! I mean can they?"
"Technically there's only one rule in King of the Hill and that's to dominate the hill top," replied Reyna as everyone looked to her for confirmation, "Anything else is either secondary or made up on the spot to make the game more interesting."
Interesting or not, Percy was definitely up to something. We all turned our eyes back to the hill just in time to see Percy glide gracefully to the base of the hill while both the Spartans and Hunters regrouped and recovered at the hill top. The Son of Poseidon simply stood there, looking up at the top of the hill as the Hunters managed to set up a defensive line while the Spartans stood in front of the Hunters in a phalanx formation. Thalia and the giant armored Spartan glanced at each other before staring back at Percy, their now common enemy in this game.
Shouting an order, an impenetrable wall of black bronze with rows of razor sharp spears and arrows began moving up the hill slowly so the formation wouldn't break from any surprises that Percy would throw at them. Inch by inch they closed in on Percy who continued to stand at the top of the hill, waiting, just waiting until he was met with the full might of the Hunters and the Spartans combined.
The daughter of Ares, Clarisse, narrowed her eyes and growled, "What is that punk up to? Why is he just standing there?"
A good question that everyone else was probably asking themselves mentally. Even Chiron looked stumped, a feature that no one had ever seen in all of his three thousand years. That's when I noticed the little girl on Hazel's lap gasping, "Percy glowing!"
Next came a collective gasp and silence from everyone else in the coliseum as Percy's blue wind like aura appeared around him then quickly shifting to a red glow. The Spartan-Hunter line stopped immediately with the Hunters readying their arrows behind the shields and spears of the Spartans as the red aura from Percy glowed even brighter.
"Do it Percy," The sudden voice next to me caused me to jump back several feet as Chaos appeared from a black vortex which made everyone else jump out of their seats to bow in respect of The Lord of Creation, "Show me what Olympus can do."
Chiron stared at Chaos with a straight face; Chaos in return did the same thing to Chiron before shifting it back to the hill. Then out of nowhere, a gold heavenly light flashed next to Chaos, a light so bright that it made everyone, including me and Dionysus, to shield our eyes. When it died down, there I saw the first Primal God besides Gaea to expose himself to the world: Ether, Primal God of Heavenly light.
He stood tall and proud, a good six feet with big powerful arms crossed over his massive toned and bulged armored chest. Scars from ancient battles covered his face and any exposed parts of his body while the rest of his armor and tunic cape shined bright with heavenly light. Even his hair-right down to every hair fiber-seemed to be shinning with heavenly gold light.
"So this is what you wanted to show me Uncle? A battle between your puppet and the spawn of the Olympians?" Ether laughed without any humor hidden in the tone, "This should be entertaining."
"Do not underestimate the humans Ether," replied Chaos, "Especially the half-bloods. They have proven themselves to be more powerful than their own parents, Titans, and the Giants. Even against Gaea herself. These heroes are not to be taken lightly."
Ether raised an eyebrow at Chaos' statement, "Gaea you say? I'm inclined to actually have faith in your word Uncle...if Gaea hadn't already been bested by me and her other siblings."
Chaos shot a stern look from the corner of his eyes at Ether who quickly whipped the smug look off of his face, "There is a saying that the humans created during the 1700's. It was also made into a flag I believe. The flag showed a picture of a coiled snake with the words 'Don't tread on me' written above it." He then turned so that he was fully facing Ether who had suddenly taken an interest at his boots, "Do not, tread on the Olympians and the Demigods. But never tread on my Puppet; his bite is deadly even to us immortals."
(Λ Percy's pov)
ΑΣΩ King of the Hill SPQR
I was glowing red when the Spartans and Hunters stopped five feet away from the hill top to ready their weapons. This was it; it was time to see what the two groups could do together against a common enemy. Standing tall, I closed my eyes and concentrated as I felt the red glow shine brighter around me until I felt that the entire Coliseum was covered in the red light coming from my body.
Percy Chaos whispered into my mind Ether is here, do whatever you have to do now
Opening my eyes, I glanced to where Chaos and the others were seated at before returning my gaze to the two groups in front of me who were waiting for something to happen. I grinned; a not so friendly grinned as I clenched my fists and roared into the air as the ground began to shake. The bright red light soon turned to a dark red with bright red dust particles suddenly shooting out of my body. What happened next came in a blur as I lunged at right into the middle of the armored shield wall and leapt over the Spartans and into the direct line of fire of the Hunters.
Thalia yelled and every single Hunter fired their arrows at me but passed through me harmlessly as if I was holographic. I landed behind the hunters and spun around launching the two disks I had taken from the fallen Spartan and watched as they slammed into all of the Hunter's bows.
CRACK
As every single bow was now laying on the ground in wooden pieces along with the now spent discs I had thrown. Every single Hunter looked down at the ground shocked at how easily I had disarmed them of their long ranged weapons leaving then to only rely on their close quarter's weapon. The Spartans, seeing their new allies disarmed, moved forward and charged at me with their weapons raised. Instead of retreating I charged forward also and stomped the ground as a massive chunk of earth popped up from the floor and I punched right into until my arm was encased in a massive earth shaped fist. I yelled and raised the massive earth fist up into the air and brought it down on the line of Spartans but at the last second, the giant Spartan swung upwards with his Sledgehammer and broke my earth fist into pieces causing me to stagger back in surprise. Then from the debris of broken rock leapt out Thalia with her spear charged full of lightning and fired it square at my chest which sent me sliding back a few feet.
I clutched the spot where she had managed to hit me and looked forward to see the Spartan who I had stolen the discs from run at me and jumped up with his knee and drove it into my chin making my head snapped back. He followed it with an over handed punch and I ended up falling to the ground hard. Rolling off to my side, I struggled to rise as Phoebe and Susan came at me from both sides and held me tight, unable to break free as the giant Spartan ran up to me and brought his hammer towards my stomach. Both Susan and Phoebe let go of me and watched as I was sent flying off the cliff and crashing into the wall of the arena.
Okay...well I think we've proven the fact that they can work together I replied back to Chaos Those attacks actually hurt!
Impressive, but I still don't think Ether is convinced. Fight them for real this time, don't hold back but don't kill them
Understood with a groan, I pulled myself out of the outline of my body from the wall I had crashed into and cracked my neck then looking up at the hill, "No more mister nice guy."
Dashing up the hill, I felt as if time slowed to see each movement that both the Spartans and Hunters made, giving me an advantage as I neared their line of defense around the hill top, "Round 2."
Thrusting my palms down, I shot up over them as fire erupted from my hands and landed on the top of the hill...and inside the ring of Hunters and Spartans. I looked at all them as they shifted their eyes from each other then to me then back to each other, unsure to either wait or attack. Then my eyes fell on the Hunter Susan, the only Hunter to absolutely hate my guts. She looked me straight in the eyes and growled before darting towards me with her hunting knives raised.
I heard Thalia yell out for her to stop but it was too late as I side stepped and swept her legs out from under her with my foot then blasting her with a gush of wind off the hill. After that, well all Hades broke loose. Front, back, left, right, all sides you can think of, I was attacked from the two groups.
Rolling back, I landed in a kneeling position and managed to unsheathed Riptide from its pen form as one of the Spartans swung a battle axe near my head. My ear soon began ringing like a bell as metal clashed on metal when I lifted my sword just in time to block the incoming axe attack from the Spartan. Shoving him off, I planted a hard kick in the middle of his chest and was rewarded with seeing the armored warrior flip backwards and land flat on his back. Next came two Hunters who switched back and forth from attacking me then defending my counter attacks with their blocks. I fended them off for several seconds when out of the corner of my eyes I saw a Spartan sneaking up on me from my right. Seeing my chance to regroup, I willed the air around me to catapult me into the air as the Hunter that was attacking and the Spartan that tried to sneak up on me smashed into each other. The other Hunter who was defending was caught off guard at my maneuver and stumbled over the two bodies beneath her leaving me some time to land and launch them at an incoming team of Spartans who were trying to come to the aid of their teammates.
Suddenly I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, a sign that I was being attacked from the rear. Turning at the last second, there looming over me was the giant Spartan and his giant hammer raining down upon me. Quickly, my body shifted sideways as the bulk of the hammer collided into the spot where I was standing at just momments ago. I looked up at the Spartan, my own face mirrored against the visor of his helmet.
A grunt escaped from behind his helmet before his voice spoke out from speakers built inside his helmet, "It's good to see you again Percy."
That voice, it was deep and like two boulders tumbling against each other, but cheerful in a merry way, "Beck-"
Before I could finish, a bright light appeared besides us and the remainder of the Spartans and Hunters. We shielded our eyes as the light shined brighter and brighter until it died down to reveal a golden armored warrior surrounded in heavenly light. Chaos' voice soon popped into my head Another slight change of rules, Ether wants to evaluate you, the Spartans, and the Hunters…on his own.
As soon as Chaos' voice disappeared from my mind, a streak of heavenly light flew right past me and the massive Spartan as Ether leapt up into the air with heavenly gold tendrils sprouting out from his aura. His cloak flapped in the wind behind him as he powered up by glowing even brighter than before, so bright that it would put Hyperion to shame. Then, just to amaze us even more, his cloak suddenly vanished as two gold glowing objects sprouted out from the back of his shoulders until they folded out wide revealing them to be wings made out of heavenly glowing feathers.
Ether gazed down at the giant Spartan than at me before scanning the remaining standing Hunters and Spartans. A smirk formed on his lips then he vanished and reappeared behind several Hunters and Spartans who were standing together in group on the slope of the They turned around trying to face him but they were too slow as Ether back handed one Spartan hard on the helmet before catching a strike from a Hunter. He glowered at the Hunter who had attacked him and crushed the poor girls wrist in his hands before releasing his hold on her and kicking her towards the others then blasting the group with a heavenly blast. When the smoke cleared, the mixed group of Spartans and Hunters were left smoldering but alive and unconscious on the side of the hill.
The crowd gasped, horrified at the Primal God's brutal strength as they watched him zone in on another group of Hunters and Spartans who were readying themselves against Primalordial of Heavenly Light. I watched, with difficulty as he disposed of them quickly like the last group before moving off to the third group that had Thalia, the short armored Spartan, Phoebe, and the Spartan with the disc for weapons. Thalia narrowed her eyes and began channeling her spear with lightning while the female Spartan pulled out a rapier type sword and channeled some sort of energy into it as well. Phoebe readied her hunting knives while the other Spartan twirled his disc weapons and crouched down into his fighting stance as Ether drew ever close towards them with an unpleasant smirk carved into his face.
"Now!" Thalia yelled and the disc Spartan dashed towards Ether and jumped up into the air and brought his weapons to bear at Ether who laughed at the sight before him. The Spartan then twirled and threw his discs while at the same time Thalia raised her spear high above her head as a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky right at the flying discs and covered them in lightning. Then from the female Spartan came five blue streaks of light as she aimed with her arm and sword, a blue snowflake type emblem appearing in front of her. The five streaks of blue light shot past the lightning covered discs and somehow managed to tie down Ether around his neck, arms, and legs to hold him place as the lightning covered disc slammed into his armored chest and exploded.
The binds holding him disappeared and he fell from the air only to be met by Phoebe who darted out from the smoke and drove her blades into his shoulders. She then propelled herself off his body as he landed on his back hard on impact. He sluggishly rose up and growled, anger evident on his face at the fact that several demigods had got the best of him when he let down his defenses. Reaching up, he gripped the handles of the daggers wedged into his shoulders and yanked them out with a short howl of pain, gold blood dripped down the blades of the dagger drip by drip. Tossing them aside, Ether clasped his hands together and spread them apart as mace formed out of heavenly light appeared in front of him.
His fingers wrapped around the handle of the weapon and hefted it onto his shoulder, his gold colored eyes sending death glares at the four who had attacked him, "You four will regret trying to make me look like a fool. Game or not, I will end you all right now for laying your hands on me!"
Thalia smirked, something that was admirable but suicidal whenever she showed it in tough situations, "Too late to make you look like a fool, it wasn't hard to do."
Ether scoffed and bounced his mace in his hand then in a blink of an eye, throwing it towards Thalia and the female Spartan. In a blur, the giant Spartan appeared in front of the female Spartan to shield her with his body while Phoebe darted towards Thalia to shield her with her body. The Spartan who had the discs for weapons was the only one who ran up to the mace and stood still as the weapon neared his armored chest.
"Enough!" I soon found myself holding the weapon, just seconds before it hit the Spartan. My eyes were only focused on Ether who tilted his head before making the weapon disappear from my hand and reappearing in his, "You've gone too far Ether; you're supposed to see how the demigods fight not kill them in the process."
The Primal laughed and shook his head in disbelief, "If they die then they shouldn't have engage me in battle. I'm a Primalordial; I deserve to fight real challengers."
"Then fight me," I muttered, "You want a challenge, then fight me instead."
Ether raised an eye at me and crossed his arms, "Tempting, but I believe I am needed elsewhere. But rest assured 'Puppet' we will have our match soon enough. I have seen enough to report back to Erebus."
I kept my eyes narrowed at him as he smirked back in response before flashing away in heavenly light. All around me were the eyes of a crowd in disbelief at seeing a Primalordial right before their eyes. I felt someone walk up to me from behind, "Percy, what did he mean by that?"
Turning around, I looked at Thalia's electric blue eyes then to stands where Artemis and the Immortal Campers were sitting at. My eyes met Artemis' and Chiron's before shifting to Chaos' who had a dark look on framed on his face, "The whole reason for tonight's war game was to see if the Olympians and Camp Olympus can wage war with the Crotheans. In return, if we did show that we stood a chance, the Primals would side against us and help fight the Crotheans instead of fighting them by themselves. An option that would end all life on earth if the Primals didn't approve of us."
Thalia's eyes scrunched together, something that she always did whenever she was worried, "And what do you think Percy? Do they approve?"
I kept silent as the crowd of demigods began to exit out of the Coliseum until only the Spartans, Hunters, Immortal Campers, Gabby, Artemis, Dionysus, Chiron, and Chaos were left. Shaking my head, I looked up into the sky then back at Thalia, "No…"
Sorry if the ending was shitty. Sorry if everything towards the end was shitty. I was stuck on this chapter for ages and it got to the point where I began writing sentences just to complete the chapter until I read it and decided to rewrite it over and over again. Chapter 8 will be way better.
