Chapter one.

Gwen walked up the seemingly endless steps to the flat she shared with her husband Rhys. It was late, "Probably past midnight." Gwen thought, and then grimaced. She hoped her husband was asleep so she wouldn't have to listen to the accusations he constantly made concerning her job and boss. For the past two months Rhys had constantly been implying that Gwen was cheating on him with Jack. She had been doing everything she could to convince him otherwise. Gwen came home at a regular time every day, cleaned the flat, made dinner, and did every chore imaginable. But everyday was a broken record. The only thing keeping Gwen from threatening to leave was her guilt. If the raven haired woman was being truthful then she would have to admit that, though she never slept with her boss, there was certainly an attraction. That didn't mean she didn't love Rhys, of course she did! "For Christ's sake Gwen! Get a hold of yourself! You're going to go inside and kiss your husband and explain that you had to work late because there was a alien that decided today would be a brilliant day to go around turning people into bloody globs of fat that resemble marshmallows! And your husband will understand because he loves you, and you love Jack. WHAT! NO! YOU LOVE YOUR HUSBAND NOT YOUR BOSS! Your husband not your boss. Your husband not your boss." Gwen repeated the mantra in her head over and over again but with every repetition it sounded less like a reminder and more like comparison. The man she had vowed to spend the rest of her life with, the weak, cowardly, judgmental, boring, ordinary man she shared her bed with was not the man she loved. Jack was the opposite of Rhys. Fit, intelligent, stunning, dark, and mysterious at times, and most importantly, to her at least, he was brave and caring. Gwen reached her flat, opened the door and stepped inside. The first thing she was greeted with was a fist to her face and for the first time in her life she regretted meeting Rhys Alun Williams.

Authors note: this is a rewrite of the first chapter I published, hopefully it is considerably better. I did break the original chapter up a bit because it felt like it moved to fast and lacked detail, so I obviously chose to improve upon those things. Also I apologize but for plot reasons I need an antagonist and Rhys drew the short straw so if you're a fan of said character you might want to go someplace else. I will try very very hard to update regularly but I seem to have extremely early onset memory loss because I have forgotten my own birthday before. Please don't hold me to much, I will disappoint.
