The young man stood there in front of their grave, the ground muddy from the rain that was pouring down earlier that day.
"Mom, dad… Hey." He said quietly as wind began blowing through the graveyard. "I would have brought Bolin here with me, but I didn't want him to see me like this. But here." He bent down to set the bouquet of flowers he had onto their gravestone. "The years have been crazy," he said. "We've been all over the city really. We even joined this game a year ago… pro-bending. I think I might have been around when we were kids… you might even remember it." He could feel his throat beginning to choke up as he knelt in the cold. "Bolin has grown so much. You would be proud of him. He's one of the greatest earth benders to exist." He said with pride. "Oh yeah, mom, he definitely takes after you with his whole comedy gimmick." He grinned. He knew his brother and mother would have been very close if she were still around. Whenever Mako and Bolin were down, she was always there to make him happy again by making them laugh with silly jokes or by tickling them. "And dad, he's definitely strong, just like you," he added. "He never backs down from a fight, and if anyone he loves is in danger, he'll stop at nothing to protect them." Mako gripped his scarf as more tears fell.
"I… we miss you guys." The silent tears began turning into sobs.
He heard footsteps walking closer to where he was, but he refused to look up. "Bolin, not now." He said drying his eyes with his forearm. "We can come back here any time, but please just let me…" he felt a familiar hand cup his face as he turned and found her aqua blue eyes staring at him. He felt more ashamed and embarrassed than ever. It was one thing to have Bolin see him this way, but having Korra see him at his weakest state made him feel vulnerable. "W- how did you find me?"
Korra smiled slightly. "You didn't look so good… so I followed you here." She kissed his forehead. "Korra, you didn't have to… the weather is bad, I don't want you to get sick." He said holding the hand she cupped his face with. "It's only raining, Mako…" she replied, caressing his hair. "The worst that could happen is I could catch a cold. So…" she turned to look at the stone. "Is this where-". She gasped slightly as Mako buried his face into her shoulder. He held her closely and tightly, as he quietly began sobbing in their embrace. "I'm sorry Korra." She heard him say, his face still sinking into her shoulder. She held him close as well, and they silently sat on the ground for what felt like forever. The wind kept blowing and the rain began to fall harder. "Hey… Mako…" He lifted his face to meet hers, as she leaned in. "They would be so proud of you, too." She said, gently kissing his lips.
