The prevention drugs usually worked – except when they didn't.

Sam always joked about how it just made their lives all the more unpredictable and exciting.

Dean never laughed. "They're seizures, Sam," he would sharply remind instead.

Sam usually shrugged. "Daydream seizures."

Dean always scowled. "Oh, well that makes it better."

Only it didn't.

Because a seizure was a seizure.

And whenever an absence seizure would happen, Sam's mind would zone out – but the kid's body usually kept going.

Like now...Sam's mind taking a break while his body took a tumble down the stairs, snapping the kid's arm in at least two places as he fell in a crumpled heap.
