Me: This is background on Bakura and Akefia since I seem to have confused some people.
Night: We own nothing but plot.
A young boy, about the age of twelve, was wondering down one of the many streets in his neighborhood, thinking over the news he had just received from his mother. A family from wealthy background was coming to stay with his family as to settle into their lifestyle, they couldn't stay in their country anymore due to some troubling economical issues they were having there. Now this news didn't bother him much, his family constantly had friends over from other regions, what bothered him was that he was going to have someone stay with him, in his room. Bakura, the boy we have been talking about, was very isolated and not very social, so this was a big thing to take in for him.
He had seen a picture of his new roommate and was even more unenthusiastic to the arrival of their guest's, the boy seemed, to him at least, like the type to be very loud and obnoxious, Bakura liked it quiet so he could think, he also seemed to hang over your shoulder to see what you were doing, another pet peeve of Bakura's, sitting on a park bench, he pinched the bridge of his nose and gave a groan.
"I know I've asked for something interesting to happen in my life, but I can assure you I didn't mean an annoyance," Bakura mumbled to himself. "They should be arriving soon; I guess I should go back."
"Who's arriving soon?" a voice asked startling Bakura. Whipping around Bakura quickly composed himself and glared at the individual, it was that kid he'd be staying with.
"Don't tell me you followed me here," Bakura groaned turning around and holding his head in his hands, this was not going to be fun at all.
"More like accompanied, I saw you walking down the street with a distant look and was curious." The other boy said sitting down next to Bakura. "I just arrived here by the way, a bit earlier than we expected, but none the less here," gazing at Bakura he continued, "You look a lot like the boy I'm staying with by the way."
"I am the boy you're staying with dimwit." Bakura muttered annoyed but the other caught it.
"Oh," the other said dumbly. "Well in that case, I'm Akefia." Holding out his hand he waited a few seconds before pulling it back, "Not too social huh?"
"I prefer to be left alone." Why was he even bothering to talk to this kid again?
"Well then I'll let you be on one condition," Bakura looked up slightly, curious of the offer. "You agree to show me around sometime, deal?" Bakura thought about it and it did seem reasonable, show him around the town and get his peace and quiet.
"Deal." He said and Akefia smiled. Both just sat there in silence for a while watching as the sky turned from a pale blue to a soft orange and pink.
"Our parents are going to get worried if we don't head home soon." Akefia stood up and stretched his back. Bakura nodded and stood as well heading home. As they walked Bakura cast a few glances at the tanned teen beside him, he was nothing like he thought, not dumb really just a bit oblivious when he was talking, not loud and actually pretty quiet. Akefia had caught the glances a few times when he was glancing at Bakura, also not like he'd expected. Bakura wasn't a stuck up brat like he thought, just stubborn and shy almost, he'd expected whining and complaining but hadn't heard any from the pale teen, in fact the teen hadn't really been that talkative and the fact that he talked to himself let on that he was probably pretty lonely.
"Well I'll fix that," Akefia thought with a small smile. "I'll be his friend even if he doesn't want me to."
"What is Akefia smiling about?" Bakura thought confused. "Is he planning to be annoying at home or go through my things or…" the list of possibilities continued, causing more anxiety, until they got home, at which point Bakura was very nervous.
"Um, Bakura," Akefia asked causing said boy to jump out of his skin and look around in fright. "Look are you okay? You can go to your room and I'll bring you up dinner if you'd like, I'll tell our parents you weren't felling well." Bakura looked at him and nodded his head shyly, unable to form words.
"Okay, here let me help," Akefia chuckled opening the door and grabbing Bakura's hand, "You'll fall down the stairs with the way you're shaking."
"I-I'm fine." Bakura stuttered but didn't pull out of the tanned boys grip, he actually felt a bit better in it. Akefia just chuckled and lead the boy upstairs.
"Yeah and I'm the tooth fairy." Akefia leaned down his violet eyes level with the russet brown. "I'm going to get your dinner okay? Just wait here I'll be back in a minute."
Akefia left Bakura to sit on his bed, holding his head with a groan. Bakura looked up around his room and noticed a few suite cases sitting by the edge of the bed. Crawling over he examined them from atop the bed; one was a light brown and was labeled cloths while, another was a pale green labeled books. This one caught Bakuras eye the most, as he loved to read and was running out of material.
Curiosity got the best of him as he leant over and pulled the heavy case up. With a huff he managed to get it on the bed and examined it further. The handle had a padlock on it with only four spaces with numbers, Bakura pouted slightly at this though he'd never admit to it. Leaning back on his arms he thought of what the code might be, something like a birthday or birth year was to obvious along with his age, maybe it was one of his parents birthdays or year, no still too obvious. Bakura pondered this for a few minutes before sighing in defeat.
"Maybe he'll just lend me some later." Bakura glanced over at the door wondering what could be taking his roommate so long. Just as he was about to go downstairs and look for him the door flew open and he was bear hugged. His nose picked up the scent of too much perfume and quickly identified the person as him mother.
"Oh my poor baby!" she rocked him back and forth, crushing him still. "I was so worried!"
"Mum…can't…breath!" Bakura gasped out, trying to get away from the over perfumed woman, she may be him mum but that didn't mean he needed to suffocate from her perfume. The woman quickly put Bakura at arms length and checked him over.
"I heard from Akefia that you weren't feeling and just simply had to check on my baby!" she put her hands on his face and looked in his eyes, hers going back and forth with fret. Attempting to calm the worried woman Bakura placed his hands over hers.
"Mum I'm fine," he sighed. "I just stayed out to late, so now I'm a bit tired." It was a small lie, he did still feel quite a bit dizzy, but he didn't want to worry anyone else…or have her call every doctor in the country to find out his illness. She didn't look completely convinced but stood up none the less.
"Well if you're sure." His mum turned and walked out the door and Akefia came in with a smirk.
"Oh my poor baby!" he said doing an over dramatic voice with a turn and fell backwards onto the bed. "Just whatever shall I do?"
"Oh shut up!" Bakura blushed, bright red, before sitting down next to his roommate still fuming. Akefia sat up with a laugh before looking over at him seriously.
"But seriously," he leaned in close and rested his hand on the paler boys forehead before feeling it be whacked off by said boy. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Bakura sighed. "I just don't like being treated like a fragile doll." Akefia nodded and wrapped his arm around Bakura, placing his food in his lap.
"If it makes you feel any better I don't think of you like that." Akefia said pulling Bakura close, noting the blush across his cheeks. Bakura smiled a bit, maybe having a roommate wouldn't be so bad.
"Neither I towards you." Bakura hummed as he leaned in and took a bite of the food. He couldn't explain it, he just felt right in this kids arms. He felt protected but not judged like he could just die at any moment. It seemed to him Akefia actually cared about him, and really that's all he asks of him.
~~ 3 years later
Bakura and Akefia walked hand in hand into the high school they'd been going to for the past year, it was a high ranking school but not all that preppy, not in their opinion at least. It was the first day and they were just trying to find the right classroom; they'd made sure to get most of their classes and lunch together.
"I don't see why we have to go here," Bakura complained looking at his schedule sheet again and back towards the many numbers of the doors. "All we do is learn stuff none of us are ever going to use."
"Yeah but if we don't go how do you expect to inherit your dads reputation as one of the best business people in the country?" Akefia laughed wrapping his arm around Bakura's waist and pulling him closer, glaring at all the girls eyeing them. They were popular around the school and were sought after by many.
It was down one of the many confusing hallways that they saw a young girl, she looked lost but that's not what had caught their eyes. She looked like a soft female version of Bakura, she was wearing a blue and white stripped T-shirt, obviously forgetting her uniform, and some blue jeans. Her eyes were wide and brown, and she was biting her lip looking back and forth down the hallway, not noticing Bakura or Akefia.
"Oh where is the B building?" she asked to herself looking through the map again. Akefia walked up first, with Bakura close behind, and leaned on the lockers by her head glancing at her schedule.
"You've got the same classes as us," he noted, scaring her into dropping all her papers on the ground, squeaking softly before dropping down after them.
"Oh my, I'm such a klutz's." She sighed picking up some of the papers before looking up as two others had dropped down beside her. Both were very handsome in her opinion but she wouldn't say anything like that out loud. She figured they were the ones who'd startled her and were just trying to help.
"Thanks'." she spoke quietly taking the papers from both of them with a smile.
"No problem, sorry for scaring you like that," Akefia laughed sticking his hand out. "I'm Akefia by the way, and this is Bakura, but I take it you already knew that huh?"
"Ryou," she shook his hand and pulled back with a worried smile. "I'm sorry, I don't recognize your names, and this is my first year here from Japan." Akefia and Bakura exchanged looks.
"Well want us to show you around since you don't know your way?" Bakura asked. Ryou looked surprise, today was just being weird for her.
"Oh you don't have to do that," she laughed absently looking through the papers in her hands. "I wouldn't want you to waste your time on my silliness."
"Nonsense," Bakura laughed. "You're going to the same rooms we're so we could help each other."
"Well, if you insist," Ryou giggled, sending both Bakura and Akefia's hearts fluttering. "I guess I really have no reason to say no."
"Well great," Akefia wrapped his arms around both Ryou and Bakura's shoulders and walking forward. "Let's go find our class, we've got about 30 minutes until class starts so that should be enough time."
All three ended up being late the first day because they had gotten lost, this was just the beginning of their friendship. Girls had hated Ryou for hanging out with the two boys, when they'd tried so hard to make themselves look pretty enough to sit with them. What Bakura and Akefia really liked about Ryou that other girls didn't seem to get was that she was just nice; she wasn't ever trying to get anything out of them, not money or even rides. She was just a generally good person to be around, she'd tease and joke not caring about status in the school all that much; she'd treat everyone as an equal, even those that didn't deserve it.
Well there you go, sorry for the wait! I'll try and start the next chapter soon, no promises though. I sure hope this gets some reviews. In short this chapter was just some background on them…it's totally not filler or anything! . .
Night: Please review, this entire chapter took about 2 months thanks to writers block, she's trying to get over the symptoms.
