A Lonely Road Called Love

I'd rather live with broken bones
Then lay here all on my own like a lovesick fool

I laid there, tangled up in the sheets, my dark blue fur contrasting against the bleached white sheets. Tears rolled down my cheeks, my yellow orbs full of heartache. I then heard that familiar sound. It was one I both yearned and loathed to hear. It was Logan's motorcycle. My eyes glanced up at the clock on the wall: 4 AM. I took a deep breath, my heart pounding in a slow ache. My ears twitched as I heard the doorknob turn and the door swing open. My teeth gritted together, my eyes shutting tightly, trying to act as if I was asleep. Of course this never worked on Logan. I felt his firm hand lay itself on my arm, leaning down to kiss the tip of my ear.

"You should be asleep, Elf." I gripped the sheets as Logan removed his clothing, climbing into the empty space that had been cold for sometime now. He tried to wrap his arm around my waist but was stopped by my tail.

"What's wrong, kid?" My sharp fangs dug into the soft flesh on my lips as I tried to keep the sobs back. Logan took notice as he was now pressing his broad chest against my back.

"I can't keep doing this, Logan..." My wolf went silent for a moment as I turned over, facing him, my face a wet disaster. I could see regret in his eyes as he reached up, wiping away a fresh tear that found it's way down my cheek.

"Talk to me, Elf." His voice was so soothing, it should be a crime. I took a deep breath as he brushed some of my dark locks from my face, rubbing his free hand up and down my spine to help calm my shaking nerves.

"I don't like it when you run away like that. It makes me wonder if you're not gonna come back one day." Logan's eyes widened as a thick blanket of silence came over us.

"Elf..." My eyes reluctantly looked up into the chocolate pools of my lover as he smiled and pulled me close.

"You don't have to worry about me coming back. I'll always come back." I tore my gaze from him, biting my lip.

"Then why does it feel like you never will? My heart can't take being alone all the time." A rumble came from his chest as I realized it was him laughing.

"You jump the gun too much, darlin'. Ya' know the Professor sends me away on dangerous missions all the time. I can't just let the enemy come knocking on our door. Can't let 'em get close to you." My eyes were glazed over with fresh tears as I searched his gentle gaze for the truth. He then pressed his lips against my forehead, my body melting into his embrace almost immediately. He curled his finger underneath my chin, forcing my head up.

"You're the only thing that's making me come back to this place day after day, Elf." My heart skipped a beat.

"I love ya too much to let anybody put their filthy paws on you. You mean everything to me, Blue. I know I can't show it all the time but...I would rather face a thousand deaths than leave you here all alone." By now, my lip is trembling and the tears are working their way down my cheeks as I throw my arms around his neck, burying my face in his safe embrace. He gave a sincere smile as he ran his fingers through my hair, laying his head on mine.

"It's alright, Elf. I ain't gonna leave ya anytime soon." He continued to coax me until I calmed down, wiping my face with the back of my hand.

"If you so much as even leave this bed for the next week, I'll teleport you to the center of Bayville, fresh out of the shower." He let out a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me against him, my tail wrapping around his waist as I snuggled up into his chest.

"Wouldn't dream of it, kid."
