If there was a prize for being the most difficult boyfriend in the world, Norway would win it. Hed have a winning streak longer than the desert is dry. But, well, thats what made him even more cute.

Mathias was pretty sure Nikolas was going to deny his enthusiastic question, but the Norwegian agreed to date him. Never said why. Just agreed. Denmark got the feeling that Nikolas didnt even want to be around him. Nikolas was always calling him stupid, annoying, idiot, et cetera. Whenever they were together, the smaller blond usually read or ignored the other. Mathias tried to behave- he did! Honestly!- but being quiet and still seemed to get on Norways nerves even more.

The Dane was beginning to question their whole relationship.

They were so different; polar opposites. Nikolas was cold and unemotional, not letting anything faze him. Mathias was hyperactive and loud, reacting abundantly.

Nikolas seemed to dislike everything. Mathias had a firm opinion, a strong belief.

Nikolas was small and had a petite, almost feminine figure. Mathias was tall and sturdy, able to snap Nikolas bones like twigs.

In other words, they were the two ends of magnets. A north pole and a south pole (even though they were both northern geographically). Anyone could see it, and anyone who went through middle school knew it: north and south poles on magnets attract. Thats what Mathias told himself when he spent yet another night on Nikolas couch just because that was closer than the guest bedroom. Thats what Mathias told himself when Nikolas made him walk ten feet behind him so they wouldnt be seen together. Thats what Mathias told himself when Nikolas sent yet another phone call into voicemail.

It got a bit depressing.

There was one other thing that kept Mathias from giving up: the fact that their relationship was still intact. Nikolas would have ended it long ago if he really did hate the Dane. So, said Dane clung to that thread of hope.

Someday, Mathias told himself, whilst sitting across the room watching his little Norge read. Someday, the poles will connect.
