Littlefox64: No I have not forgotten about this story. I know some of you will be mad at me but this is a re-rewrite of Dance of the Dragons. I reread the story the other day and found that it still quite wasn't were I wanted it. Though I liked a lot of what I removed I found a different way to add it at least I hope. I hope that this time it will be closer to my original plan, and my writing has gotten a little better. I wanted to focus a little more on the dream world & there is stuff planted I would like to continue this story with a sequel and maybe a prequel. Anyway enjoy!
A pale blue sky seeps behind the inky silhouettes of the mountain peaks that reach for the clouds. Golden tendrils of light reach out, highlighting the clouds in golden oranges and shadowing them in a deep purely-blue, covering the world in its warm glow. The world seemed quiet and still almost too much so, the only sounds the songs of the early birds and of heavy boots on sand. As lone figure wonders the windy mountain pass, pausing only an instant to pull his puffy light blue coat just a little tighter, to protect from the morning chill. He comes to a stop atop a ledge staring into a huge limb stone cave when something above catches his eye.
Fishing his hand from his pocket to shield the light from his eyes as a shape starts to take form in the center of the rising sun, its massive wings and eclipsing the sky. A smile pulls at the corner of boy's lip. Light glitters off of every one of its amethyst scales. Its belly sparkling like a river of milky pearls, the beast lands lightly in front of the boy as if it were no more than a butterfly. Flapping its wings a few times the beast folds them back stepping closer to the boy. With another soft smile the boy steps closer too, reaching up he places the palm of his hand on its snout.
Their eyes meet and in a bright burst of rainbow light, their bodies meld into one as the boy becomes the beast and the beast the boy. As the light fades the beast spreads its wings, launching into the air soaring high up through the clouds. This image of the dragon is forever captured on the page of the boy's sketch book as a purple shadow against the sun. He smiles as he flips past it to his current work of art.
(June, 1, 2015)
The weather had been getting warmer and warmer over the past few weeks leading to the summer months, which the students of Domino had been complaining about for just as long. After weeks of the student's complaints and refusal to study, the teachers gave in either holding class outside or giving them a free day. One such class was Miss Momo's art class. Her students spared over the soft lawn next to her room, most of them talking amongst themselves, a handful playing with balls or Frisbees or other such toys, a few taking the chance to catch a nap in the sun and the rest were working on their of art.
Tucked off to the side, under a cherry tree and away from the chaos of the class lays a boy. He sat in silence letting his hand do as it pleased marking crisp lines on his paper. Though only half complete the image seems to jump off the page, the view looks up from blow a golden-brown earth dragon, his head razed as he watches a sapphire wind dragon high overhead. You could even see a hint of longing in his eyes, knowing that he couldn't quite reach the other at that moment.
Kicking his legs idly in the air, he reaches for his light blue pencil to start coloring the blue pathways cutting through the gray storm clouds, when a shadow is cast over his paper. He glances up to see a girl with long auburn hair, she smiles brushing a stay strand behind her ear. Without a word she plops down next to him, and drapes her body over his back.
They let the wind blow over them in a comfortable silence; the only sound between them the scratching of pencil on paper. She sighs causing him to look over his shoulder with a razed brow. "Seto back yet?" Her voice was calm but annoyed, making him smile softly.
"Not yet, he said they would be back some time this afternoon, in about an hour or so I would guess. They got a late start yesterday coming back from Egypt." He switches colors to a light gray, beginning to fill in the clouds. The girl sighs again. "That, bad huh?" He asks blinking when a glimmering red light hovers on his picture, he glances up to find the source, finding nothing, shrugs it off.
"Would it have killed him to take him along." She moaned in annoyance. "Or to call!" She throws her arms to emphasize her point, pouting when boy beneath her let's out a chuckle.
"It was a business trip; I doubt he could have taken him if he wanted too. He also had some family stuff to deal with." He comments now starting to shade the image a bit, darkening the clouds.
"You don't understand Yugi! He won't leave the phone, he cries himself to sleep, and he refuses to even call you! Joey is driving me nuts!" She said shooting halfway up. With a sigh of his own, Yugi continues coloring, he had expected this somewhat from Joey and Serenity had a right to be angry.
"Calm down Serenity." He soothes softly feeling her weight land on his back again, she growls causing the other to chuckle softly again, he had somewhat expected this too. "With the time change and how busy he was I doubt Seto had much time to himself."
"They were seven hours behind right?" She asks playing with the rose quarts dragon around her neck "That make sense then, but I still want to kill him."
Silence falls between them again, the pencil scratching on the paper the only sound. "Hey?" She asks turning to look at him and waiting for him to give her a small sign of acknowledgement before going on. "Is there a meeting today?" She turns on her stomach pressing it against his back nesting her head in her arms.
"I would think since one of our members is flying back today." He glances back at her with a smile. "Back to the roost." She nods closing her eyes and giving in to the breeze.

A tall brunet man stands, in the obnoxiously loud and yet eerily silent loading zone of Domino airport, arranging the luggage in the back of his read sedan. He sighs heavily, he had just come off of an eighteen hour flight that they had almost missed when the taxi picked them up late, pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance at the thought.
Oh how he wanted to go home take a shower and sleep for the next two days, but he couldn't. "Seto." The name causes him glance over to his companion razing his brow. "Will this outfit work?" Seto looks the other up and down, noting the pair of tattered blue jeans, a tight tank top, studded leather ankle boots and a studded crimson choker.
"Don't look so worried Ata." Seto comments idly going back to his task of rearranging the trunk, Ata frowns at the nickname as he hoists his bag onto his shoulder walking over to the car, and hands the bag over to Seto. He chooses to lean against the side of the car watching as Seto quickly finds a place for it. "I told you not to worry over that, you won't have a problem with this group."
"I know, but I am meeting your friends for the first time," he said crossing his arms over his chest. "I want to make a good first impression." Ata said with a soft amused smirk. Ata watches the sapphire dragon around Seto's neck sway with his movement in a hypnotic way as Seto slams the trunk.
He couldn't help wondering about the pendent. Ever since Seto had started wearing it he hardly if ever took it off. "This group isn't about first impressions, it's for misfits, for lonely the people who can't seem to find a place to fit and the people no one else seems to want. Hell Bakura and Marik started a fist fight with Joey Malik and I over jelly beans their first day." Now it was Ata's turn to razes his brow.
"Do all of them whear these around like badges of honor, or just is it you?" He smirks reaching over and tapping the dragon causing it to sway it its hypnotic way, at his touch a slight wind begins to blow lightly.
Seto sighs automatically grabbing the small cord holding the pendent to stop the movement. The wind dies as quickly as it started. "Yah, he gives them to us, as proof we have somewhere to belong." Seto explains softly a hint of emotion in his voice that he couldn't quite read and matching emotions in his eyes.
Ata frowns he knew of most of the members of the club, Seto talked about them often. He spoke Malik, Marik and Bakura much like they were the three stooges, sometimes he included Joey in there like. A boy named Ryo who tried play peace maker but often got pulled into the middle, Serenity who either pulled her punches or walked away and there was one more. One Seto never seemed to name but talked of him almost as much as Joey and with such fondness.
Ata's about to ask the lasts name when Seto cuts him off. "we still have a half hour drive we school, we should get going." Nodding Ata moves to the passenger side, he would find out soon enough.
"Okay," he smirks pulling the door open "But there is no way I'm sitting in another cramped space without music."
"Fine, with me," Seto agrees, both doors slamming shut before Seto pulls out of the loading zone gladly bidding the airport ado. Two shadows follow high atop the car, only giving glimpses every now and again of sapphire or ruby scales.

"Will you quit that blasted pacing, before I ring your bloody neck!" Came a rather angry shout from the tall white haired boy sitting in the front of the darkened empty class room. The blond, who he was referring to, stops a moment to meet the hard dark chocolate glare. Ignoring the request and starting to trudge his intended path once again, to the bluenet's udder annoyance, causing him to yank on his hair with an annoyed scream and slam his head on the desk.
"Will you just fucking talk to Yugi, it's been almost two weeks, since you've talked to him aside from meetings." Comments the bleach blond, sitting in the third desk from the front of the quiet room.
Choosing to ignore the other, he doesn't even acknowledge that he had said anything. "Malik's right, Joey you haven't even tried talking to Yugi. Normally you go running right to him with your problems. Quite frankly I'm surprised he hasn't hunted you down yet and tore into you. You know how much he hates being ignored. " The younger of the two bluenets said knowingly from his perch atop the desk right across from the bleach blond.
The blond finally stops, causing the first bluenet let out a sigh of relief leaning on to the cool desk in front of him. "Yug' can't help me with this." Joey said staring at the dimly lit wall ahead of him. The second bluenet and the bleach blond frown.
"Oh so your moody from lack of sex." The second platinum blond comments matter-of-factly with a smirk, from his spot leaning on the windows. Causing Joey to turn beet read. "Ow, What was that for Malik." He howls in pain as a heavy text book bounces off his face.
"N-no." The blond stutters, finding it hard to keep his voice even, the others stared at him with deadpan looks. Joey was normally easy to read, but right now he was like a neon sign. "That's not it." Joey said looking to the window his hand finding its way to the amber pendent around his neck. "I'm a bit worried about Yug'."
"Worried?" Malik asks, the word echoed in the silent room resonating deep within all of them. The first of the bluenets opens his eyes listening in, all of them had been worried about their friend lately he hadn't been acting like himself, like he was pushing away from them.
" The dreams?" He comments being the first to break the silence, sitting up and turning to look at the group, they all nod. Joey turns to look at him now. "Could what happened six months ago, be weighing on him that much?"
"The phoenix attack isn't the only thing, he started pushing away when we all started choosing mates."
"Could he be backing off because he feels like a third while?"
"I don't think so Malik. His odd behavior started at the beginning of the year." The second bluenet answered.
"Could Tea be going after him again, since most of us have been pairing off she's been leaving us be, so Yugi is her best target." They all glance to the man leaning on the window.
"Oh look Marik the dough head actually said something helpful." The first bluenet shot getting a glare in return. "I'll ring her neck if she is, after last time. It took us a month to get Yugi to come back to school and even longer to get him out of the dream world."
"Seto was worrying over that too before he left, Bakura. Do you think there's truth to it?" Joey asks starting to worry more.
"We'll deal with it at the meeting later. For now let's keep an eye on him." Everyone nodded in agreement, none of them seeing the glittering red scale pattern cast on the wall behind them as a red streak zooms past the window.
(...)
Soft music drifts out of the red sedan as it pulls into the parking lot, pulling to a stop in front of domino high at 1:45. Seto sighs switching off the engine, "Who's idea was it to come to the school the same day we got here."
Ata smirks throwing open the door. "Yours I believe." He chuckles lightly at the other's annoyance. Then again he wanted to come, he just couldn't wait to meet the leader of the club, he had two images of what this guy may look like either a tall scrawny guy with glasses or a short, over weight guy who, was too obsessed with dragons. Then again both seemed wrong, frowning as he steps out putting a little more thought into it from what Seto had said it should be somewhere between the two.
Seto had said their leader was a bit more laid back, and quiet, he held high respect among the group, fun but could take charge when needed. "Did your brain just crash?" Ata looked over to see Seto standing next to him. "Don't over think it you'll met them soon." He sent Ata a knowing smile.
"Let's do it." Ata said falling in to pace with the brunet, as they step through the doors together entering a somewhat crowed hallway.
"SETO, YOUR BACK!" A tall brunet girl shouts from halfway down the hall quickly running over to the two. Ata blinks in confusion at the cringe that crosses Seto's face, looking over somewhat confused.
"Afternoon, Tea." Seto bit out as nicely as he could, trying to get away as quickly as possible. She looks both ways a moment then looked Seto in the eye as if looking for someone. Atem takes note of the red feathers that seem to be floating around her for a brief moment.
"Have you seen Mouto? I seem to have lost him." The way she said the name was almost like she spat it.
"No we just got here." Seto cringes again as she steps closer, her ears perking at the word "we" before she notices Ata standing next to him. The moment her eyes landed on him, Ata could of swearn there was fire swirling around her.
"And who is this?" Tea asks taking a step closer, her eyes like blue flame as they look him up and down, with a nervous smile he steps back. Glancing at Seto pleadingly as the girl takes another step closer.
"He is my cousin Atem." Seto said jumping to his rescue, Tea steps back a strange unreadable look on her face. "He just moved here from Egypt." Her, expression, shifts into a sickening sweet smile as she glues herself to Ata's arm.
"Let me show you around, hot stuff." Looking to Seto once more he found his cousin at a loss for how to get out of this when they hear a door open and two new bodies entered the hall.
"I can't believe your almost done with it already!" Came the cheery new voice as the two entered. "You just started yesterday!"
"Yah and I've been working on it all day." A softer voice chuckled matter-of-factly. Atem watched as Seto's eyes lit up as if he just found his solution, he raises his hand to wave.
"Yugi!" Seto calls making a mental note to thank the other later. Atem stops dead as the boy turns and bright amethyst eyes fall on them, like Tea this boy was sounded by a whirlwind of fire, it was fierce and at the same time like a warm glow. The boy himself was slender but his presence seemed to roar at the moment.
Atem could tell that this boy had to be the leader Seto never named the one he spoke of often. As the two walk over, Atem can't help watching the other, his open lavender button down swaying with his moment, baggy ripped jeans full of patches and doodles hugging around his waist. Ata had to resist the urge to roll his hips, biting hard on his lip.
"Seto." The amethyst eyed boy smiles, that's when Ata saw them a rose quarts dragon hung around the new girl's neck and an amethyst dragon hung around the boy's. So they must have been two of Seto's friends. "Welcome back." The boy smiles again.
"Glade to be home." Seto nods to him, none of them noticing Tea pull away from Atem with a frown.
"There you are slut, where have you been all day." Yugi snaps his gaze to her his look turning sour. "Find someone new to fuck?"
"Does your mother count?" Yugi shot back almost immediately, causing other students in the hall to stop and whisper. Seto and Atem seem taken aback by the statement, Serenity smiled awkwardly but Tea is rather unfazed by the comment.
"Oh so that's where she was this morning." The short haired girl shrugs. Even under the circumstances a smile pulled at Yugi's lip at the comeback. Eyes meeting for a moment she smirks. "Don't get so cocky Mouto."
"Why, it seems to work for you?" Atem blinks he could almost see the smoke rolling off Yugi's lips at the retort but could tell the other was holding back. Tea gave an awkward angry smile knowing the mood the other was in and that he could hold his ground with her taunts.
"You and that little club of yours aren't worth my time right now." With that she turns to walk away. Quirking a brow at the odd behavior the small boy turns back to Seto with a shrug and the four started walking away. Tea watches over her shoulder as the four walk off then a genuine smile graces her lips as she pulls out her phone sending a text to an unknown number.
"Well you seem to be in a fine mood today, it's not like you to take on Tea like that." Seto comments staying a few steps behind the two, Atem keeps pace with him watching the two ahead of them. He could still see the flames still dancing around Yugi in a flurry of colors. 'So this is the clubs leader' He thought to himself watching colored sparks flutter like fairies they almost looking like grains sand.
"She started it," he mutters back. Seto giving an amused chuckle at statement.
"Our fearless leader seems to be acting like a child, right Serenity." Seto said chuckling again at the heated glare the smaller boy sent him. His glare turning to a smirk when he saw Serenity ball her fists.
"Good luck." Yugi utters as the girl spun on her heals an angry look in her eyes, both boys behind her inch back in fear, Atem quickly choosing to follow after Yugi in hopes of staying out of the cross fire. "You'll need it."
"What were you thinking! Leaving Joey behind and not even calling him!" Atem shrunk a bit closer to Yugi as the girl began to yell. 'sorry cuz.' Atem thinks to himself letting the girl's rant and Seto excuses fall into the back ground.
Something caught Atem's eye, he stops bending down to pick it up, blinking as he flipsping it over on the other side was a picture of a golden brown dragon gazing longingly up at a sapphire dragon high above, it looked like a photograph Almost as if it was taken just to capture this one moment in time. "Um I think you dropped this." Atem said moving a little closer to Yugi.
"Huh?" The boy stops as amethyst and crimson met for the first time. "Thank you." Yugi said taking the picture. He had never seen the other before, watching the boy smile sheepishly, Yugi blinks at seeing the aurora of flames spiraling around him. "I'm Yugi Mouto, haven't seen you around before." He said extending his hand.
"Nice to meet you I'm Atem." Atem smiles taking the offered hand. "Ah, your very good." He said rubbing the back of head, "the drawing." He finishes upon seeing the strange look from Yugi. "It's like a photo."
"Thanks, most people find them a bit strange." Yugi said opening his binder and carefully placing page inside.
"So you must like dragons." Yugi watches him a second, leaving Atem stammering for what to say next. "W-well that beautiful drawing you did was of dragons, there is an amethyst one around your neck and you are the president of the club Seto's in right?"
"Yah," Yugi nods. "Do you want to join in on the meeting for the day? We were just heading to meet the others, in the library." He asks with a smile, Atem nods just about to say something when.
"And another thing!" Serenity shouts Seto now seeming to be backed into a corner cowering. The two boys glance at each other.
"Should we help him?" Atem asks watching for a moment cocking a brow.
"Nah, he'll be fine." Yugi shrugs turning around and starting to walk off. "Besides if he wants to marry Joey he should be able to take on his sister. Come on I'll introduce you to the others." With that they left poor Seto with a very angry Serenity

"Does that man even know the meaning of free day?" Complains Marik as he flops on the table with a sigh his carnelian dragon pendent landing on the table. Malik sits across from him head resting on his hand reading his book.
"Yah, he just doesn't like you." He comments offhandedly turning the page. Only glancing up when Ryo pulls out the chair next to him. "Well that makes three, where is Bakura, and the others?"
"Joey is waiting by the door hopping to see Seto, I don't know about the others." Ryo sighs taking his seat.
"He said he had to run an errand this morning didn't he?" All three look over to the new voice to see Yugi raising his hand in greeting, and Atem smiling softly behind him.
"Who's that?" Marik asks sitting up.
"My name's Atem, nice to meet you." He smiles. Noticing that each of them wore a dragon around there necks, just like Yugi Seto and Serenity.
"This is Ryo, Malik and Marik." Yugi pointed to each in turn before heading to the seat next to Marik.
"It's nice to meet you." Ryo says softly watching Atem take the seat next to him. "Any word on the others, Yugi?"
"Serenity is going ape shit on Seto in the hall; it was something about not calling his boyfriend all week." He slips a blank page out of his binder allowing his hand to start drawing the needed lines, Atem watching with awe as the simple lines started to form an image.
"You let the new guy see that, talk about diving in head first." Marik shot.
"My cousin can handle himself you should see him with Mana, the two fight like cats and dogs." Atem chuckles at the thought, Yugi glances up at him with almost a knowing smile, that goes unnoticed by the others.
"Wait your Seto's COUSIN?!" Three out of the five boys yell in shock immediately getting shushed by the women behind the counter.
"Explains why his aura is similar to Seto's." All of them turn to Yugi dumbfounded. Most of them knew the other could read auras they just never thought about it.
"He's one of us?" Malik asks receiving a nod in reply. Atem blinks still watching Yugi's movements, as the picture became a little clear, he was only half paying attention anyway.
"Why did you think he brought him here?" Came another familiar voice accompanied by the sound of a chair being pulled out at the head of the table. "Oh I found something you lost in the hall." Bakura said pointing his thumb at Serenity, behind him.
With an angry pout the girl took one of the other seats, crossing her arms. "I take it Joey fond Seto then?" Yugi asks starting to outline the image.
"Yah they were in a major lip lock when we left." Bakura sighs, then feels the crimson eyes fall on him. "I'm guessing your Atem then. I'm Bakura, if you can't go to Yugi or Seto you can come to Ryo or I." Atem smiles kindly with a nod of thanks, before going back to watching Yugi.
Starring on in awe Atem starts recognize the image on the paper as a detailed picture of himself. Yugi pulls out his color pencils and starts to color it in. "Wow…"
"The picture thing? Trust us he did that for all of us, when we first joined, a few before." Ryo said watching the awe in Atem's face.
"Ryo go ahead and start the meeting." As Yugi said the instruction Ryo stood clearing his throat. Atem only felt the need to half listen as he watched Yugi color.
"Should we wait for the others?" Malik asks looking to the door.
"No I have a feeling they'll be awhile." Yugi answers with a smirk.
(...)
Yugi found himself standing on the edge of his cliff staring into the darkening pink sky. He had seen glimpses of a new dragon lately but it always tends to hide in the clouds. Something about it seemed to call to him. He had seen the ruby dragon many times before, during other members of the clan's mating seasons but it always stayed at a distance watching them.
To night he had seen flashes of it high above the clouds, watching carefully he catches a ruby streak in between the clouds and took to the air, calling out softly.
He hovers near the peak of the mountain, waiting for a reply and watching carefully, this may just as well be a phoenix but something tells him it's not. A bright light envelops the darkening sky blinding him a moment, Yugi blinks, he knows this light. It means that someone has merged with their beast selves. A smile crosses his snout as he cries out again circling the peak still not daring to fly to far.
Unbeknownst to him a phoenix sits perched on a tree near by her blue eyes watching him closely. A soft smirk slipping on to her beak after witnessing the flash, she flies off with the next stage of her plan in mind and leaving the two alone.
