Chapter 4:
Will kept going down the street, completely ignoring her mother's calls, nothing could be said to make Will feel better. If she were being honest with herself, deep down, she wasn't surprised. Will never truly blamed her mother, and she didn't think much of her father. But she was angry. All the anger she had inside her and no one to vent it out to, and during the argument she wanted to hurt, she was grasping at straws, and yes, she had suspected her father had been irresponsible, and the one who left, but hearing it out loud still hurt. 'What am I doing?' She thought he head down, 'running away, again, that's all I ever do.' When the thought came to her she stopped, and tuned in to her mother's calls.
"Will, let me explain, please let's just talk, I don't want to fight."
Will closed her eyes tightly, trying to contain her emotions. It was no use running away like a kid, she took a breath and turned around, following her mother back to the car. The two continued on their way in silence, barely looking at each other, until they reached the cafe, and entered taking a seat. The silence continued until her mother sighed, putting down her menu and looking at Will.
"Will," she began softly, "please, I care about you, and I'm so worried, just tell me what's going on."
Will looked up, a sharp reply ready on her tounge, but she looked at her mother, really looked at her, and saw the tired single mom she grew up with, and the honest love in her eyes.
"My friend's and I found out we had these powers to turn into these type of fairy things, and we can control the elements, and travel to another world and try to keep it out of the hands of evil."
There was a long stretch of silence and her mother gave her a blank and unamused look.
"That's cute, maybe you can give up any hope of living in comfort and become a writer."
"Yeah, thought that wouldn't work."
"I want the truth Will."
"I'm hungry," Will said instead, picking up her menu again.
"Did you hear me?" Susan said frustrated.
"No, I have selective hearing."
"Will"
"It's a very rare condition."
"Very funny." Her mother said, sounding annoyed but Will could see her pressed lips together, trying not to laugh.
"I wasn't trying to be," Will said innocently. Susan sighed and picked up her menu as well, studying it.
"Mom," Will said softly, Susan looked up. "I really am fine, and I'm sorry I made you worry. There's just...things I need to figure out, but it's nothing dang-um bad, I promise."
Susan looked at Will, searching her daughter's face, it was the first real, sincere conversation they had in a long time, and while she wasn't happy, she knew Will wouldn't tell her anymore, but it would do for now. Susan gave a firm nod, eyes roaming the page.
"Hmmm, I wonder what the Banana-rooza is?"
