Once and Future Hero

An "Infinite Realms" fanfiction

Tucker:

"Wow!" exclaimed Danny, "They think I'm the 'Great One' because I took down Pariah Dark."

"In the world of hairy monsters with bad breath: you're a hero," mocked Sam.

Tucker ignored Sam's dismissive comment. It was her way of coping with the bizarre and looking out for Danny. After all it was her job as his unofficial girlfriend to take him down a notch if his hero status started to go to his head.

Tucker saw through the teeth and fur to recognize the remnants of an advanced society from the odd mix of the very primitive and futuristically advanced.

.

Danny:

Sam needn't have worried about his hero status giving him a swollen head. Danny actually found the title embarrassing. He put up with it because they couldn't afford to insult Frostbite. Until now all the other ghosts were antagonistic or at best indifferent but here they were welcomed.

Still, Danny couldn't deny it felt good after being hounded in Amity Park for being a ghost and disparaged in the Ghost Zone for being a human to be accepted on his own merits. For the first time he realized that there could be a home for him in the Ghost Zone.

.

Sam:

As Frostbite proudly showed off the pictograms that illustrated the history of his people Sam felt a chill run down her spine that had nothing to do with the freezing environs.

She was beginning to understand why the ice creatures revered Danny for defeating Pariah Dark. The Ghost King was no mere tyrant. The crude artwork belied that the Yetis had once had a sophisticated civilization before they resisted Pariah Dark's rule. The cartoonish drawings hid the horror of this ghost version of Hitler who had systematically hunted and murdered and had come close to utterly wiping out their existence.

.

Frostbite:

Frostbite turned to his second-in-command, "What is it Windchill?"

"Are you really going to just give Phantom the Infi-map?"

"It's the right thing to do."

"Sir, we owe the Great One an enormous debt of gratitude but the Infi-map is a powerful and dangerous artifact."

"My vision into the future is not as clear as Clockwork's but as the Map's guardian, I have some insight into the space-time continuum."

"The Map is our sacred trust. You can't let a child use it no matter what he's done."

Frostbite smiled, "It's not what he's done; it's what he's going to do."
