Retribution
Somehow, he ends up with the stake in hand inside the originals' mansion.
It's dark and gloomy. A grand beautiful house indeed yet so void and empty of any sign of life, Happiness or hope.
His anguish is unbearable, his anger has taken the best of him, he resolved she had to die like she killed her.
He will enjoy every second of it, when her skin turns grey and the veins protrude from it, when the light leaves her eyes, when her body burns. He will hope she is feeling fire eating through her flesh, that her pain will be intolerable.
There is no chance she will kill him or Elijah, tonight nothing he thinks can withstand his rage.
He is quiet, too quiet so she wouldn't hear him. At last he finds her in her deceased brother's room, standing still facing a painting she is so absorbed in.
Perfect Opportunity.
Before he lunges, He hears her speak.
It's when she speaks he is caught by surprise, maybe by the fact she knew his presence or by the fact she didn't lunge to prey on him, or merely by her voice.
Her voice made him freeze in his tracks, it broke through his resolution.
Her voice is very composed, unwavering yet very husky and very weak that he can barely make out what she saying.
"Ah, you are here Salvatore, What a pleasure" she keeps on speaking as if she doesn't know his intentions
"Beautiful painting, Nik drew it, this is our village"
The painting was beautiful indeed; he could see that even in the dim light. There are people, sunshine, the demeanour is exuding happiness and peace.
"So you are here to kill me"
He pauses a moment, making up something to say, surprisingly it was hard to come up with something however he managed to collect himself
"I let you escape and this is how you pay me"
"I let you once as well, Remember Salvatore? Even after your friends killed my brothers and I regret it ever since you know. The silly girl got the best of me. If I didn't, any of this would have never happened"
She is on the verge of Breakdown, he knows.
"Do what you want or leave"
"You aren't scared"
"Of you?" she says it with sarcasm that brings him crashing down, she was much more stronger that him. Well, he once managed to take Klaus by Surprise, and once Elena Daggered Elijah, but still, the risk was high.
"Do your best, I'll not fight you and I am not running anywhere" the bitterness she said the last part with Stung Damon Sharply. She was truly despondent.
"All that you still haven't noticed" he snarks to himself
"She didn't deserve this"
"Neither did we"
"She was used as a blood bag for your psycho bro" and before he can complete it he is on the floor, one of her hands restraining his dagger clutching one, the other in his chest clutching his heart.
"She betrayed us first remember, She stabbed me in the back, She betrayed Elijah at the ball. Your saint Elena is worse than any of us, she strung you and Stefan. If she was that virtuous, she would have left you both. Sage and Caroline are even more faithful than her."
She leaves him and gets up. Her words sank in his mind he even contemplates them for a second, he knows she is right yet he pushes them in the back of his mind
A part of him nags him to apologise for his tongue slip but he ends up saying
"You loved him that much?"
She chuckles lightly and bitterly "you haven't known him before all this. He never let down his guard to you. You are so much alike, if place were different, if time were different, you may have been friends, even more than he and Stefan used to be. Nik never left me. Nik never used me"
Silence prevailed again as her mind swirled into memories of her brother.
"I am leaving the stake on the table over there, as sign of good faith."
