Author's Note: I haven't written about Remus or Tonks in a bit, so hope you all enjoy this. Anyway, I wasn't super content with it, but I am happy with it for the most part…So I hope you all are too, and that you will review. Tonks seems to me that she would put on a façade for Remus if she is upset, seeing as she never wants to appear weak, or so I feel. Yeah, so, that's all! Enjoy!
God Bless,
Sarah
The floorboard creaked against Remus's protests to climb the stairs. He forced his joints to painfully climb the steps despite the noise that he knew would awake her. He winced in pain and caught his balance on the railing as his head presented the room in such a way that it was moving.
"D-dora?" He slurred out, catching himself on the top stair.
He groaned, throwing his head back as he laid against the cold wood. He didn't feel like sleeping sprawled along the stairs and hallway, but he had no choice. His joints ached with older age, and his head spun wildly as he looked around. With his hands resting on his chest, he willed himself to fall asleep; Tonks wouldn't want him in bed anyway, now would she? After a few moments, his reverie was broken by the sound of footsteps, and to his surprise, he heard her chuckle.
"Remus Lupin, you are becoming clumsier than myself!" Tonks joked, heaving him up quickly.
"Ahh," his head filled with dizziness once more.
"Oh, quit it! I have helped Alastor up enough to know you'll live."
Remus looked at her, his eyes resembling that of a puppy-dog, a lost one.
"Tonks, look-"
"-Remus, I don't want to hear it," she silenced him.
"But, I…I didn't mean to upset you, Dora," he said as affectionately as possible, praying she would forgive him.
In all honesty, Remus was scared to be a father. He had played it off like he was worried the child would become like him…But that wasn't his only fear. What if he dropped it? Hurt it? Hurt her? Remus couldn't bear the thought of disappointing his family, yet he had done just that by storming out on her.
"Remus, it is really okay."
She had become quiet now; she was shutting down. Remus hated when she shut down, it just wasn't Tonks not to give her two cents.
"Love," he began, following her to the bedroom. "I'm so sorry, I am just so scared."
"Scared? Of what?" She asked, shock crossing her features.
"Of being a Dad," Remus replied lamely.
Tonks took his hand in her own, and placed it on her stomach. "Remus, you're a complete idiot, and you running of like that put a real hindrance on the trust we have here," she took in a deep breath, and let it out slowly. "But I worked so hard to get you, I am not going to work any less hard for keeping you."
Remus chuckled softly at that and brought her hand to his lips, kissing her fingertips gently.
"Dora, I am not going anywhere."
"Promise us," she replied, looking down at her stomach. "Promise our baby."
"I promise," Remus replied, staring into her eyes. "I promise I'll never leave either of you."
He pulled her close and kissed her softly then, placing his hand on the back of her head, tangling it in her hair.
"I love you and our baby, Nymphadora."
Their foreheads together, their lips so close, made Tonks forget about her previous anger. She knew he would always be there for her and their child; Remus was a fighter…But so was she.
"Don't call me Nymphadora."
