(A/N: So, I'm taking up this series again just because it's been in the back of my head forever. Updates will happen but it will be a while as I want to write all of them out before I post any others. I will finish this one series but will not continue Forever or A Mix of Logic and Monsters.)

Kaito grinned as he slowly scrolled down 1412's twitter tag, liking and retweeting as he went along. Many of the comments lamented not being able to attend the latest show as they had been unable to decipher the note the band had released two weeks before. The young magician-turn-musician idly thought about making the note easier next time before shaking his head. They had more than enough people at the last concert, but maybe he could make the hints come from another field.

When Kaito had taken over the title of Kaitou Kid from his father he'd had no idea of how popular his genre of music would get. The band 1412 had actually been founded by Kaito's grandfather, a Frenchman named Arsené, and his music had mostly been blues and jazz. After his grandfather passed the title to Kaito's father the genre changed to rock music and the band picked up a few members, namely Kaito's mother. Now the band was Kaito's and he'd been quick to include Aoko who brought in Saguru. Kaito wasn't sure how Akako had wormed her way in but she was part of 1412 as well.

1412 was an odd band as it had been from the beginning. For one they never had any tickets to sell, they chose a place (like a particular park or rooftop) and played for whomever solved the note and showed up. All of their music was free to download off of their website or iTunes. Since they didn't require any money to gain access to their music they had a donate page on their website.

While their music was good Kaito suspected that a good number of their fans came from their flashy concerts. Kaito worked as a magician during the daytime and it was unsurprising that magic carried over to his night job. There was also the 'secret identities' of the band members.

Kaitou Kid was an alias that was passed sown so the artist's true name was never revealed and the Kid's various band members followed suit. Kaito's mother had been known as the Phantom Lady, a woman whose face was wrapped in bandages and whose voice has a ghostly beauty. Now Aoko, Saguru, and Akako had titles to hide who they were. Aoko had claimed the nickname Hime-chan and had crafted her red and gold mask by herself, a small thing that covered her eyes and curved to a point on each cheek. Saguru, the uncreative man that he was, called himself Tantei-san and had worn a plain, white mask that he had picked up at the craft store to the first show he'd preformed in. Kaito had made him a new one, made of ceramic, but had kept the plain, white design. Akako, in an effort to remain completely anonymous, had not chosen a nickname so the rest of them had chosen one for her calling her Majo-sama until she'd accepted it. Akako's mask covered the upper half of her face and looked like it was made of black lace and not the thin strips of metal it actually was.

Despite their 'hidden' identities the hand was very active on social media sites.

Kaito ran not only his personal and stage accounts, as the other members did, but the band's official accounts as well. He spent a lot, if not all, of the time he wasn't working or writing on his phone or computer, keeping not only his own accounts active but the band's as well.

"What's our status on that store idea?" Aoko spoke up from her place on Kaito's bed, slumped in a way that looked fairly uncomfortable as she stared at her laptop screen.

"Still in the works." Kaito hummed as he typed out a response to a fan's tweet. "We're looking at the cost and weighing our options."

"'Kay." Aoko's fingers tapped on her keyboard a moment. Kaito grinned, saving and retweeting a fan's art.

"Someone drew Tantei-san chasing Kid around a sta-" Kaito started only to be interrupted by Aoko yelping in surprise.

"No way!" She nearly screamed, shooting up to a sitting position.

"… What?" Kaito blinked in shock at the sudden loud noise.

"Holy crap! Holy freaking crap!" Aoko squeaked, eyes locked on her computer screen.

"What?!"

"Kudou Shinichi just sent us a message on our site!"

"… Are you serious?" Kaito sat frozen in her desk chair. "Kudou Shinichi? As in the Kudou Shinichi, of One Truth, sent us a message?!"

"Ohmygod. Ohmygod. Ohmygod." Aoko had dissolved into a mini freak out.

"One of the most famous artists in the world just sent us a message!" Kaito leapt out of his chair to do a silly dance around the room. He stopped abruptly when a thought struck him. "It's positive, right?!"

"I'm calling Saguru-kun and Akako-chan!" Aoko grabbed at her phone. "We're so doing a live read. Oh my god. I'm shaking!"

Kaito breathed deep as Aoko contacted their bandmates, shouting a simple 'listen to this!' when they picked up. When Aoko shoved the laptop into his hands he'd pulled on Kid's persona and his voice came out smooth.

"Dear members of 1412, we in One Truth would like to offer an opportunity to collaborate with us. We have listened to most if not all of your music and would be honored to work with you. We are aware that you don't normally take part in collaborations, but Ran said it wouldn't hurt to try. Please email us back with your decisions. Thank you for your time, Kudou Shinichi." Even Kid's voice couldn't contain his excitement.

"… Damn it, you guys." Saguru groaned after a moment. "I'm at work! I can't freak out for a few hours!"

"What do we do?" Akako, ever calm, asked. "They are right. We've never accepted collaboration opportunities from anyone else before."

"But it's One Truth!" Aoko exclaimed.

"She's right." Kaito grumbled before grinning. "Who else votes we say 'screw it, we do what we want'? Say 'aye'."

"Aye!" Aoko's hand shot up.

"Aye." Saguru chuckled, probably covering his face in case files to hide his grin.

"Aye." Akako just sounded amused.

"The aye's have it! Any doubts cast out, we're collaborating with One Truth!"

Dear Kudou-san,

1412 would be delighted to collaborate with One Truth. Hime-chan and I actually screamed in excitement when we saw your message. We do have a few conditions that I should run by you before we start, however. I think it best if the two of us meet up to talk there things over.

Sincerely and with great enthusiasm,

Kaitou Kid 3

Dear Kaitou Kid-san,

I am alright with meeting to discuss your conditions. I am currently staying in Beika. Where would you like to meet?

Kudou Shinichi

Dear Kudou-san,

Let's meet at the Poirot Café in Beika at 10:42am tomorrow. I'll be the one in the white hat!~

Cheers,

Kaitou Kid3

Shinichi gazed around the café, his hat's brim tipped low to hide his face. A pair of chucky glasses covered what his baseball cap couldn't. He sipped his coffee to try and quell the butterflies in his stomach. Usually collaboration conditions were hashed out between the two band's agents, he'd never been on his own to one of these things. Also, it was the Kaitou Kid that he would be talking to.

The violinist smiled to himself, glad he had lost his stubborn bandmates who had tried tailing from the hotel. They'd all been clamoring to go with him, to the point where he had run away from them in a dead sprint. The only one who knew this district as well as him was Ran and she wasn't fast enough to catch him. Working with the illusive 1412 had been a dream of theirs since Sonoko had forced them to listen to their second third era album.

Shinichi jumped when a body collapsed into the seat opposite him.

"Hoo boy! This place is popular, ne?" The man laughed. He wore a white beanie, sunglasses (effectively covering anything recognizable), and a light blue t-shirt. He placed a paper cup, of what smelled like hot chocolate, on the table before leaning against the wall. A thump signified his legs kicking up onto the booth seat as he got comfortable. "I tried to pick a weird time, but I guess some people need their coffee."

"I… suppose." Shinichi studied the man for a moment. "Kaitou Kid-san?"

"Please call me Kid, Shin-kun!" The man held out his hand.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Kid-san." Shinichi shook his hand, trying to cover up the twinge of annoyance at being referred to so familiarly.

"The pleasure is entirely mine." Kid's grin was sharp, an echo of the manic smile Shinichi knew he wore onstage. His hand felt odd and as the two let go Shinichi realized it was because his calluses felt misplaced. He wondered if it had to do with his slight-of-hand.

"Highly doubt that." The violinist smiled. "We've been wanting to contact you guys for a while now, but you don't normally collaborate so we thought it was hopeless."

"Wait, seriously?" Kid leaned forward, the outline of his eyes widening behind dark plastic. "We've all been fans of yours since, practically, day one."

"Really?" Shinichi blinked. "But our styles are so different."

"Your violin playing," Kid's smile turned serious, "is amazing. A diamond in a group of precious stones. The passion in each note is audible."

"Thank you." Shinichi smiled. "Your own music is so full of emotion as well. 'The Real World' is one of my favorite songs."

"I love your rendition of 'Viva la Vida'." Kid was almost vibrating in his seat.

"I may have listened to your fourth third era album forty times."

"'Made up Your Mind for You' is my main ring tone!"

"'Plant Life' is my go to idle song because I've heard it so many times!"

"I can quote your entire 2013 album word for word without the music!"

Shinichi opened his mouth to confess something else when he realized how close the two of them had gotten. He pulled back with a cough and took a sip of his lukewarm coffee. Kid grinned across from him, looking like his face would hurt from the force of it. "So you said you had some conditions."

"Yeah, nothing too big. We just need to know that the songs we feature in are free to the public and that you won't, under any circumstances, reveal our names to the media or fans." Kid took a gulp of his drink.

"Done and done." Shinichi nodded.

"Great!" The other man did a small jig in his seat. "How were you guys thinking of revealing this to the fans?"

"Not sure. We're open to ideas." Shinichi shrugged.

Suddenly, Kid lunged over the table and there was a puff of smoke. "Say cheese!~" There was the sound of a camera before Kid was back on his side of the table tapping at his phone. Shinichi blinked in shock, the feeling of flower petals brushing his face had him reaching up to grab the pink rose tucked behind his ear.

"Uh…"

"That was a great picture!" Kid showed him the picture: Kid holding up a peace sign pressed next to a surprised Shinichi. "Ok to send?"

"… Sure." Shinichi smiled.

(A/N: Music!AU, I actually have a playlist on my iPod devoted to this AU…

One Truth- A band that only recently started adding vocals to their music. Hattori is usually the one singing but Ran or Kazuha have been known to sing as well. Shinichi almost never sings but he does write the music. Shinichi and Ran play the violin but Ran's has a higher pitch range. Hattori and Kazuha play the cello, Hattori's is a deeper pitch. Hattori can also play the guitar while Kazuha can play the drums. Ran is very good on a piano.

1412- Started as a single man playing jazz and swing music before it was passed to his son, Toichi, who changed genres to rock and roll. Once Toichi retired it fell to Kaito who moved on to pop and techno music. Their shows are known as a must-see event. Their shows are completely nonprofit and the only way to know where one is being held is if you solve the riddle they post on their site. Kaito isn't the only one who sings, Hakuba sings a fair amount as well and so does Aoko. Akako generally doesn't. The four of them trade off instruments all of the time.

Sorry if they're OOC but I haven't written them in a while…. It may be another few years before this thing is done but I WILL finish it.)
