James quietly opened the door to the little flat he shared with Lily, hoping he wouldn't wake her. They had moved in together right after graduating from Hogwarts, so their flat was rather small, but it worked for them.

"JAMES POTTER! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?" James winced and looked up to see a very angry and disheveled Lily looking down at him wearing her robe and fuzzy slippers, her hair a mess, as though she'd been tossing and turning in bed.

"Ah, Lily... I didn't mean to wake you...erm..." he fell silent as she flared her nostrils. "I was just out, Lil, I didn't mean to be out so late I'm sorry..."

"Yes, I know you were 'out' James. But where? Where were you 'out'? Where is it you, Sirius, Remus and Peter always go?" she hissed at him.

"Does it really matter? I'm home now. Perfectly fine." he turned away from her.

"No, James it's not fine, damn it! aren't you the one who's always saying 'there's a war going on, Lil, we have to be careful' how the hell is you going out and not telling me you're leaving, or where you'll be, or when you'll be back 'being careful'?"

"Lil-"

"No! Don't you 'Lily" me! You know I'm right! Every time you don't come home after work I'm up all hours of the night worrying if I'll ever see you again! James, I wasn't sure about moving in with you so soon, and it's much too soon for you to be lying to me! Especially right now with everything that's been going on!" Lily put her hands to her face, sobbing.

"Lil, I never lied to you…I just...didn't tell you everything."

"S-same thing, isn't it! James Potter you better tell me what the hell is going on, because I can't take this anymore!" James sighed as he moved toward her, wrapping his arms around her. He never meant for her to be this upset.

"Alright, Lily, I'll tell you. But you have to know! I only didn't tell you because I don't want you getting hurt, and knowing anything about this could put you in danger...and frankly, I'm scared you're going to ask to come along next time, and I don't know if I can handle that..." Lily looked up at him with sad eyes and a tear stained face, waiting.

"Dumbledore has put together a sort of...resistance. Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail and I joined up with some others, and we're doing what we can to fight back against Voldemort and his Death Eaters." Lily stood up and pulled away from him. She stood there silently for a moment then turned around and slapped him hard.

"How could you even for a moment think that not telling me you're risking your life on a nightly basis was a good idea? James, that's not just lying, it's cruel! If you never came back I'd never know what had happened to you! And how dare you think you have the right to fight back and i don't! I'm muggle born James! I have every right to fight back! Damn straight I'm going with you next time! As if I'm going to let you run off and get yourself killed without me there to protect your arse..." she muttered angrily to herself and made her way back to their bedroom, leaving him there dumfounded.

James eventually made his way into their bed and pressed himself against her back. "I Love you, Lily Evans." she sighed and turned to look at him. She grudgingly said back "I suppose I love you too, you stupid git." James laughed and kissed her, not at all surprised when she kissed back eagerly.
