Dean staggered, almost face-planted right on top of the shrieking little girl in his arms. It wasn't until a pickup blasted its horn and swerved that his tumbling brains managed to get traction enough to re-orient him.
He was on the center line of a four-lane. Amelia clung tighter, sobbing into his shoulder. He sprinted across the road and sank onto his haunches, back pressed up against a building, till his heart came down from between his molars.
He pulled out his phone, and after a few mis-stabs with a shaking finger, managed to bring up the navigation. Knoxville? That was... He shook his head and dialed Sam.
After what he'd been through for the last who-knew-how-long, being teleported almost sixty miles was no big deal.
"Sam- I have her. We're ok."
He pulled the phone away from his ear with a wince and a wobbly grin. "Back at ya. We're in Knoxville. Off... uh... Kingston Pike." Dean wiped his face against his un-child-upholstered shoulder. "In front of a frickin' bridal shop, if you can believe that."
He nodded. "Trust me, we're not goin' anywhere."
"I'm thirsty, Dean, and I need to go to the bathroom," Amelia whispered into his ear.
Dean looked up and down the street. "Scratch that. Meet us at the Starbucks up the block."
He heaved himself up onto his feet and set off with wobbly knees. "What the heck was all that about ET?"
