Green eyed Kendall Knight awoke with a smile on his face, not knowing that today would change his life forever. He and his little sister, Katie Knight, were spending the day picking out a nice ring for their mom on Mother's Day.
"Almost Ready?" sighed the blonde BTR boy.
"I'm coming, jeez!" "Sorry."
The ride to the jewelry store was fairly quiet. Only after today, Kendall wished that it would be louder. As they begin to shop, a strange man walked in, looking very suspicous to Kendall. He was right.
"GET DOWN!" screamed the gunman as he fired bullets into the air.
"Kendall! Where are You? I'm so scared!" asked Katie ducking behind a counter. "I heard that. You, get out here! NOW!" the gunman was pointing at Katie. "Otherwise, he dies." pointing at Kendall. "N-No, don't hurt him. I'm c-coming." Katie said as she began crying lightly. The gunman was now standing face to face with Katie, the gun pointed at her chest.
"NO, DON'T HURT HER! SHOOT M..." Kendall was stopped by a gunshot. He looked in Katie's direction, seeing a little girl in pain just wanting help after being shot. I little girl loved by someone. Loved by him.
"Katie!" screamed Kendall, running to her side. Stroking her hair. Holding her. "I'm so sorry." "So sorry" Another customer was calling 911. "It h-hurts Kendall. I hurts so much! Make it go away...please." Kendall's heart broke into a million pieces. She had been shot in the chest, and there was nothing he could do. Nothing.
"The ambulance is coming. Hold on. Just hold on" says a crying Kendall "I'm sleepy." whispered Katie "You can't go to sleep. It will make you worse!" says Kendall, looking at Katie only to find that she already drifted off.
The gunman had disappeared after realizing what he had done.
"Katie! Wake up, please! You are too young to die." Kendall was pouring out in sobs.
The paramedics arrived, acessing Katie's injury's. "I-Is she g-going to be o-okay?" "They will need to surgacilly remove it. It a a difficult procedure, but if all goes well, she should be okay." And with that, they were off to the hospital, kendall following in his car closely behind.
He called James on the way to let the guys, who have been with Gustavo all day, know.
"Hey, Kendall" "James, Katie was shot! I'm on my way to the hospital, meet me there. My mom was already informed." "OH MY GOD! Kendall, we're on our way."James said hanging up the phone.
The four best friends and Kendall and Katie's mom had been sitting in the waiting room silently waiting for what seemed like hours before hearing "Katie Knight?"
"All of us want to know. No private conversations." said Mrs. Knight with a look that you don't want to mess with.
"Alright. Katie had the bullet lodged into her lung. We were able to remove it, but we also had to remove the bottom portion of her left lung. She may have a bit trouble breathing at first, but she will get used to it, and be as good as knew!" the doctor had explained
Everyone sighed of relief "Can we see her?" asked Kendall.
"Sure, but one at a time. She will be able to come home in a couple of days."
It was decided Kendall would go first. As he walked into her room, he didn't know what to say. "I'm okay Kendall!" said Katie. "I can't wait to get home!" "Katie, I'm so sorry I couldn't help you. I love you so much and will never let anything happen to you again."
"I don't blame you. It wasn't your fault." "I love you so much Katie." "I love you too big brother." They were wrapped in each others arms.
Kendall stayed in her room every night with everybody else coming to visit. Kendall never left.
After two days, Katie went home, always thinking about her brother, and the bond that they will always share.
