He wasn't sure what surprised him more, Jean's display of power or Logan's behavior towards Ororo, or the fact that the woman in question was receptive to Logan's attention. Jean was sleeping peacefully on the medical table, the straps keeping her securely level. He could hear some of the banter between his oldest friend and Logan, Ororo was actually leaning into his embrace with a smile. He didn't get it, something was wrong here. Xavier sifted his chair back towards him, a smile on his face.
"Professor, she is still asleep." He looked at the woman he loved and brushed her red hair out of her face.
"You are worried about Ororo, she is a grown woman, Scott. Logan has very strong feelings for her, you know that don't you?" Xavier was watching him, concern written on his face. He knew the man before him considered all of them his children, his responsiblity.
"I don't want to see her hurt, she's always been so strong. If he hurts her..." His words trailed off as he looked up at the couple flying the plane, Logan was kissing her hair before he stood to check the children. The children were looking at him, not with fear or reserve, but with affection.
"We should allow them some time to be together before we judge them, don't you agree?"
"Scott?" Jean's voice was raspy, a cup of water was handed to him by a silent Jubilee. He held it up to Jean's lips and she sipped it slowly. She smiled at him, a soft smile that made her look radiant.
"Hey." He whispered, touching her cheek.
"Is everyone alright?" The concern laced in her voice made his heart swell, she was such a caring person. While she was laying on a medic table, hoping everyone else was alright.
"Yes, you saved Xavier." He replied, his hand squeezing hers gently.
"Ororo, got the children out didn't she? I told her and Logan to stay with them, but they came back." Before he could offer words of comfort, reassuring her that they were all safe, Logan stood over them. Scott still couldn't help being annoyed with Logan, or feeling threatened at his chemistry with Jean.
"Hey Red, welcome back." Logan's voice was a drawl and Jean chuckled quietly,
"Thank You Logan," She paused looking at Scott mischievously, "Scott wants to read you the riot act you know, for reference since you are dating Ororo now." Logan laughed out loud,
"Does he now? Well go ahead Cyke, I'm sure 'Ro can't wait to hear this." He shook his head slowly,
"Just so you know, you hurt her and I'll hurt you." Logan looked at him strangely, it took him a moment to figure out it was respect, for defending his friend.
"I'll hold you to that Scott, but I ain't planning on hurtin' her. You got Jeannie and I got 'Ro, maybe we should double date." Logan's grin was infectious,
"Logan," Ororo's voice floated to the back of the plane, it was like watching two magnets as Logan turned to face her instantly. He saw Ororo's face brighten as their eyes met, he wondered how he never noticed how right they were together. Jean's grip on his hand tightened slightly and he looked at her worriedly.
"Let me show you something?" Jean whispered as Logan walked up to the cockpit and settled next to Ororo again. He nodded and felt her enter his mind...
"Well, well, well." Ororo's voice came from the staircase, Scott stood with Jean as they watched the memory play. "Look who's come back." Logan returned her smile, slightly guarded but much more open then any other he gave the rest of them.
"Isn't that what the prodigal son does?" Logan teased, watching her as she came off the staircase.
"We certainly won't fault your timing." She teased back, a smile on her lips.
"Eh?" Logan asked, looking at her curiously.
"We need a babysitter." She let that sink in and smiled affectionately,
"I'm outta here, darlin'. " He said seriously,
"No you aren't my friend." Ororo hugged him for a moment, then kissed his cheek. "It's good to see you, Logan."
"Likewise, 'Ro." Logan's eyes focused on her before Marie brought his attention back to her.
She smiled as it hit Scott that they really did love each other, he shook his head,
"If I hadn't seen that I never would have believed it."
"She is nervous about you being upset with her. She knows how much you dislike Logan."
"I know this is blunt," He paused looking conflicted, "but how are you okay with this? I know you have feelings for Logan." She winced inwardly,
"Scott, look at me. Logan is that bad boy you never take home...you are the one I want. The one I choose." She sat up straighter, taking hold of his face.
"Jean."
"Kiss me, Scott."
"Professor is here."
"They are suddenly very distracted." She kissed him, feeling the love he felt for her and hers returned. A small chuckle escaped from Ororo in the pilot's seat, Logan was visibly shaking from his laughter. Scott was tomato red, his cheeks burning, she smiled contentedly. This was a good day, it would be better soon once they reached the mansion. She felt the power just beyond her reach, it was like holding a sun in her hands. 'Soon Ms. Grey, very soon you will have need of me.' The voice haunted her, it was certain she would call upon its powers again...
