Hi guys its been a long time. Sorry for the wait, I'm hoping to have a chance to finish this story. My writing style has defiantly changed since 2016, so hope you enjoy may go back to revise, but first I really want to finish my first ever fan fic.
Gabriel was grabbed his bow and arrow and a quick bag before heading to the cove. He knows that Halla was freaking out about tomorrow, but he wasn't entirely convinced that she wasn't serious about leaving on Toothless and running away.
Gabriel was racing through the woods when he spotted something moving towards him. 'Ash,' Gabriel thought, stopping for a moment 'What is he doing out-' as the boy moves closer, Gabriel can tell the boy is slightly panicked trusty axe gone from his hand. 'Well, this can't be good?' Gabriel can't for the life of him tell you why, but he dropped his bag and drew his bow.
Gabriel whistles to get the boy's attention arrow notched, but string not fully drawn. "What are you doing out here?"
The boy barely slows down, not even slightly concerned with the fact that an arrow was somewhat pointed at him. "We need to get back to the village it isn't-" Gabriel watches as something seems to clink in Ash's head, his face contorting to scowl.
"You know," He says through gritted teeth.
"Know what" Gabriel didn't need to ponder what Ash was talking about. He knows that it feels like to be glared down by a Night Fury.
"You put that idea in her head, didn't you" Ash shouts, taking a step towards Gabriel, as if ready to kill him with his bare hands. This time Gabriel readied his arrow.
"Just take it easy there, Ash," Gabriel says, "Whatever you think is going on, we can talk about it."
"You knew she had a dragon, and you let her keep it like a pet." Ash snapped, shoulders setting fist clenching. "You watched as she-"
"I didn't do anything," Gabriel yelled, watching as a shadow fast approaches behind the boy. "Whatever decisions Halla made, she made on her own."
Ash sneered, leaping at Gabriel. Gabriel cursed, ready to release his arrow when suddenly a large shadow overtakes Ash, snatching him out of the air. Ash screams as he's dragged into the air. "That's one way to handle that," Gabriel mutters, putting his arrow back, watching as Scarlet has the Viking boy in her claw, taking him to the top of the tree line.
Gabriel can slightly make out Ash's screams something about Odin's ghost. Gabriel goes to retrieve his bag as another shape appears in front of Gabriel, scaring the boy. "Geez, you dragons for being so big to need to make more noise."
Halla was sitting on top of Toothless looking panicked. "Did you see Ash?"
Gabriel points upward, Scarlet's shadow appearing on top of the towering pine trees. The trees were groaning from the weight of the dragon "Scarlet's handling it."
"That's what I was afraid of," Hallas says, even though Toothless was chuckling purring? Gabriel wasn't sure what that noise means, but the dragon seemed playful. "Well, don't just stand there. Come on."
Gabriel looked at Halla, odd, "Come on, we have to go talk to him."
"We," Gabriel said, placing the bow back on his back. "This seems like a you problem."
"Are you gonna be helpful or not." Halla groans, looking at the treetop when Scarlet starts hissing.
"Well, if I must," Gabriel shrugs, trying to be casual although he was kind of freaking out on the inside, what did this girl expect him to do precisely. Gabriel must have been taking to long for Toothless for the dragon smacked his leg with his tail. "I'm coming. I'm coming geez not all of us know how to ride dragons." Gabriel wishes he could say he graciously maneuvered himself on the dragon's saddle behind Halla, but that would be a lie. He would have been a bit more mortified by the struggle if Halla wasn't manhandling him to go faster and Toothless taking off to the treetops beside Scarlet where their major problem was currently at.
The tree that Scarlet and Toothless were on seem to be strong enough to support their weight. The tree that Scarlet left Ash on seemed to be struggling under the teen's weight. Ash was dangling a hundred or so feet in the air.
"Halla! Get me down from here!" Ash shouts, trying to balance his weight on the thin branched.
"You have to give me a chance to explain," Halla shouts.
"I'm not listening to anything you have to say!" Ash growls, nearly falling when Scarlet snaps at the boy.
"You have two dragons Halla, was one betrayal not enough" Ash shouts, Gabriel wanted to tell the teen to shut it, but Scarlet seemed to have enough with the boy's mouth. Before either could do anything, Scarlet was picking up the boy again with her claws and flying off.
"Scarlet," Halla shouts, groaning to herself as a headache starts to form.
"You think she'll kill him," Gabriel asks, watching as Scarlet seemed to be heading to the ocean.
"She can't kill him," Halla says, adjusting some gears before having Toothless take off after the red dragon.
"Gah," Gabriel shouts in surprise, gripping onto Halla's waist, trying not to fall off the dragon. "In case you have forgotten, this is my first ride, so please warn a guy."
Halla leaned back on the boy, shouting a sorry hoping Gabriel could hear her over the wind.
Gabriel readjusted his hold on Halla, secure enough to not fall off, but not tight enough to disrupt her flying. "Of course, my first ride would be ruined this way. Couldn't have a nice ride around the island maybe during sunset, nope have to chase a raging teen and pissed off dragon. Yup, pretty much my life now."
"What are you muttering back there?" Halla asked, utterly unaware of Gabriel's monologue.
"I was saying that you still don't have any gloves on?"
Halla turns to look at the boy "That is what you're worried about right now. Ash could expose us or be killed, and you're worried about my hands." Halla raised an eyebrow at him.
"Maybe."
"Your unbelievable" Gabriel hoped she meant that in the best possible way.
Finally, the two caught up to Scarlet, who has dumped the boy out on a large cluster of rocky crags in the middle of the ocean. Scarlet stood on a larger rock amused at the boy outrage.
Halla landed Toothless next to Scarlet on a separate rock. "Really, Scarlet," Halla says, wondering what the hell was going on with everyone. Halla got off of Toothless, shouting over to the teen.
"Ash, are you okay?" Halla winces at the stupidity of the question.
The teen glared. "Halla, take me home now."
"I can't; you have to give me a chance to explain."
"Explain what Halla, what could you possibly say that will make this better?"
"I won't speak. Just let me show you." Halla says, extending her hand to the teen. "Please Ash, you can hate me all you want, and afterward, you can go to the village and tell them everything, and I won't deny anything, but you have to let me try and explain.
Gabriel was sure that the boy would reject the offer, and that they would have to fight with the dragons to take the teen back to shore. Surprised again, the Viking makes his way over to Halla, eyes on the two dragons. Gabriel watches his eye flicker to the ocean around him, no doubt contemplating if he actually needed their help.
Ash beings to make his way onto the rock formation, swatting Halla's outstretched hand away, reluctantly making it over to the dragons and other teens.
Gabriel could tell Halla was trying to figure out how to get all three of them home. They all couldn't fit on Toothless saddle. Halla was biting her lip, her hands a bright red already. Gabriel sighed. He really was too good-hearted.
"Scarlet, my dear," Gabriel shouted, sliding off of Toothless saddle. "These two Vikings need to have a moment to themselves, do you mind giving me a ride back."
Halla's face crumpled a bit, and it definitely didn't cause Gabriel's heart to clench a bit.
Scarlet cooed, stretching herself towards the boy, nudging the boy with her snout. Gabriel was practically giddy, until he heard Ash's disgusted grunt. Scarlet's eyes narrowed, turning her face back to the teen, teeth exposed. Halla stood protectively in front of the other teen, and no doubt, worried that the next time Scarlet takes Ash, it could be for the last time.
Scarlet went back to nuzzling Gabriel. Halla was quickly coming over to his side, "Are you sure about this. You have never ridden a dragon before, let alone one without a saddle."
"Ugh, excuse me. I just rode a dragon, thank you." Gabriel says cheekily.
Halla didn't seem as amused, "You rode one with me."
"Seems like the next logical step is bareback alone." Gabriel hoped he didn't seem as nervous as he felt.
"Beside you won't let anything too bad happen to me, right Scarlet." The red dragon seemed to purr as the boy scratched in the one spot underneath her chin.
Halla still didn't seem convinced but knew she didn't have much choice. "Thank you."
"Just make sure that idiot sees what you see." Gabriel says, "I'd rather not have to explain to my captain why one of my arrows was in his corpse."
"Gabriel," Halla shouts, "No one is killing anyone."
"Hmmm," Gabriel looks at Scarlet, who also doesn't seem to share that sentiment "We shall see."
"Stop," Halla whined, "don't make this worse."
"Well I'm not here to make it better." Gabriel chuckles, only for Halla to get serious on him.
"Don't say that I couldn't do this without you." God Gabriel really needs to stop being awestruck by this girl.
"That may be true," Gabriel says, trying to play off his rising heartbeat and red face. "However before we go on a ride that our lives depend on, you are gonna need these." Gabriel pulls a pair of leather gloves from his bag. The gloves may be a bit too big for Halla's hand, but something was better than nothing. Gabriel may have badly stitched the fur trim on the glove, but every little thing could help.
"Gloves really," Halla says, breathless.
"If I had time, I could have grabbed you a hat and scarf." Gabriel says, watching as Halla placing one glove on her hand. The glove wasn't too much bigger. Halla would, of course, finger the poorly hidden stitches that connect the fur to leather. Halla giggled, placing the other glove on her hand-clapping to herself.
"These are great," Halla whispers like it's a secret. "Thank you."
Gabriel felt his face heat up, and if Ash wasn't glaring at him so hard, he could almost forget that they were in the middle of a situation.
"Go on," Gabriel says, taking a step towards Scarlet. "Your Viking friend seems to be getting even more agitated."
Halla brought her gloves to her chest, nodding her head and turning to face Toothless and Ash.
Gabriel made his way to Scarlet, who had a bit of mischief in her eye. "I don't need your judgment, either." Gabriel would swear that the dragon was making fun of him.
Gabriel heard Halla and Ash making their way to Toothless.
"Take me home," Ash growled.
"Toothless? Nice and easy please." Gabriel looks at the Night Fury, seeing a mischievous leer. 'This can't be good,' Gabriel muttered, watching as Toothless spreads his wings slowly. With a whoop, the wings fill with an updraft and Toothless tucks his legs in hovering in place gently.
Gabriel had a bad feeling as Halla leans into Ash "See? Nothing to be afraid of." That being said, Toothless launches straight upward. Ash starts screaming, and the accelerations are tremendous.
"He does realize we need to make a good impression, right?" Scarlet just chuckles, lowering her wing and neck, exposing her back to the boy.
Gabriel feels a rush of excitement, rushing towards the dragon.
Every downbeat bucks Toughness's saddle, heaving them into the sky, doubling the speed like a rocket.
Ash is thrown back, grabbing onto the back of the saddle, trying to get his legs to squeeze around the beast with no success. Ash is screaming and hurdles himself to Halla, who doesn't seem to be bothered with the sudden speed.
"Toothless! What is wrong with you?" Halla knew it would be more dangerous to switch gears on Toothless, but this really wasn't helpful. "Bad dragon!" Halla grunts as Ash squeezes her tighter "He's not usually like this." She tries to reassure the teen, trying her best to breathe appropriately.
Toothless shifts and Halla can't help but groan "Oh no…" Toothless rolls and plummets towards the coastline. Ash is screaming louder, and Halla hoped her eardrum wouldn't burst.
Toothless rockets over the ocean waves, deliberately dipping them in the froth. Halla was furious, her eyes dropping to her new gloves. 'Toothless, what are you doing?! We need him to like us!'
Toothless rockets skyward and begin tumbling head over tail, acting as if he never heard his rider. "And now the spinning." Toothless sighs, defeated, "Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile."
"Okay! Okay I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Just get me off this thing." Ash yelled defeated, Toothless grumbles leveling off a moment, and before Halla could argue Toothless flipped himself over.
Halla was strapped in, so she didn't move, Ash was not so lucky, his grip was not tight enough to fight off the gravity on his body. Before Halla knew it, Ash was falling. "Shit shit shit," Halla shouted, "Toothless."
A large shadow appears underneath Ash, snatching the boy midair. "Scarlet it's so good to see you." Halla shouts as the larger dragon floats up to Toothless, Gabriel sitting comfortably on Scarlet. Ash was looking like he was about to puke.
"Is he okay?" Halla asks, wondering if Ash was aware of who was holding on to.
"He'll live," Gabriel says, probably enjoying this a little bit more than need be.
"Great than follow me" Halla lifts Toothless into the sky, heading up into the clouds. This was one of Halla's favorite spots. It's like a whole new world up here. Halla watches as the boys on Scarlet looked amazed. They had been reaching out and touching the passing clouds, Halla and Toothless pierces through the columns of clouds ablaze in golden hues, Toothless and Scarlet floating over the vast, alien skyscape.
Toothless and Halla lead the other dragon to level off under a starry sky. They emerge from the blanket of clouds under the dancing of the Northern lights, shimmering in ribbons across the sky. Shimmering ribbons dance in the sky, below Berk's torches, flicker in the inky darkness. Halla has found that this viewpoint of her home was the most peaceful.
Halla tore her gaze to the boys on Scarlet, wondering what they thought of there first flight.
"So are we gonna talk about-"
"Not a word outsider?" Ash snaps, refusing to look at the teen sitting in front of him and trying to focus on the new area.
"I'm just saying if your scared-" Gabriel chocked when the boy tightened his grip around his stomach.
"I could snap you like a twig do you want to keep talking." As if to make a point, Ash tightened his grip, causing Gabriel to grunt.
"Alright I got it, you don't want to talk about how you screamed like a girl and held onto me like a da-" Another painful squeeze, Gabriel decided to stop while he was ahead.
"I will admit this is pretty cool. It's" Ash took a deep breath, "amazing." Ash carefully reached down to pat Scarlet's side.
"It really is," Gabriel said, glancing over to Toothless, watching as Halla seemed so much more in her element in the sky.
"So, what now?" Ash asks, trying not to shiver from the night air.
"Don't know. We were supposed to talk about that until someone barged in with an attitude."
Ash grumbled to himself "Her final exam is tomorrow, we both now that she's expect to-"
"I know," Gabriel didn't want the dragons to know. He had a feeling they understand more than any once gave them credit for.
A strange, unearthly din rings out. Scarlet and Toothless seem to twitch at the noise. Toothless ear plates suddenly standing on end, Scarlet growling. Panicked the dragons dive, dipping into cloud cover.
"Halla whats-" Scarlet growls, shaking the boys as if trying to quiet the humans. Suddenly as they came out of the dense clouds, figures started to appear, a monstrous Nightmare emerging.
"What are those?" Ash asks if he scoots a little closer to Gabriel grip a little tighter neither of the boys mention it.
"Dragons," Gabriel whispers as Halla makes a get down motion. All the teens' lean down was getting as close to their dragons' bodies as they can.
Scarlet dives as the Nightmare calls out, barley squeezing in before a Zippleback appears on their side, boxing them in formation.
"What's going on," Gabriel asked.
Halla gives a shrug. "Toothless. You've got to get us out of here, bud." Toothless hisses, trying to silence his rider. Halla was trying to remain calm, knowing that Toothless wouldn't intentionally place them in danger. Which probably made this even worse, just where in the hell were they.
