Chapter XXII – You make me complete

It was easier to go to her ex-fiancé's wedding (with her ex-best friend) if she was with two strong and handsome men by her side. While her hand was in Bixlow's, Laxus had his hand around her waist. Guiding her through the people gathering around the building where the wedding was going to take place.

"Don't be nervous. You look great." Bixlow said. And she did look good. She was wearing a little black dress, sleeveless with long gloves and four inches heels, little to none make-up and her hair let down with a black hairband. "There is your friend. Want to greet her?"

"Not yet. Let's stay behind." Laxus was silent, just following them around more like a bodyguard than a companion. "She is beautiful."

Laxus didn't need to look at Lucy to know that she had those eyes that everywoman had when they talk about wedding and girly things like that. Sitting by her side, he considered it. He was twenty four and his grandpa was old… What nonsense. He smirked. In the other hand, Bixlow seemed a little more scared of the non-asked question.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife." Cheers from the audience when the spouses kissed woke them up from their daydreaming. Lucy was smiling, no tears in her eyes.

"I'm going to greet them." She took her purse and smiled. "Are you going to wait me here or…"

"I'm going with you." Laxus got up: he wasn't going to stay there with those old hags looking at him with predators eyes.

As they got close to the new husband and wife, Lucy started to feel nervous, she didn't want to be there, why had she come? The island wasn't her place. So, she turned around, her two lovers standing right behind her. The blonde didn't need to be here, nor they.

"Let's go back." She almost pushed them to get the hell out of there, like there was no tomorrow. "I don't want them to know I was here" And so, they left, unnoticed by the happy couple. As they were getting away from the island, Lucy wondered by she felt the need to watch them get married. Yeah, that had been a part of her life but not her life, that had been Rosette's life, not Lucy's and she was Lucy… Urg! It was confusing and she was getting a headache for no reason! And then there was that huge black hole in her chest, a hole of nothingness, a void she couldn't fill and… So much angst!

"You ok, babe?" Strong arms around her waist woke her up and she turned her head to smile to Bixlow, the Celestial Mage couldn't see his face but she knew he was worried. "You seemed lost in thought."

"Yeah, just… thinking of my life or Rosette's life… I don't know." He turned her around and kissed her forehead, then her cheeks and finally her lips, nothing sexual, just… not love-like. "Bixlow, do…" Lucy had to ask that question, she had to have the answer straight away, but her vocal cords didn't think the same way and she had to force the question out of her chest. "Do you love me?"

"Of course I do." As insecure as Lucy had sounded, Bixlow's answer had sound honest, secure, not a hint of a lie in his words. "I love you. And I'll probably will." A 'but' was coming. "But I'm not ready for marriage."

At first, there was shock, then she just burst into laughing, she had not been expecting that! And her laugh was balsamic to the Seith mage's soul.

"Oh, Bixlow… I don't want to get married either! Even if I wanted, we can't! Three men and a woman? No priest is going to allow it." She rested her head upon her shoulder. "Thank you." She was so happy, it was weird, he had told her that he loved her and she felt almost blessed. "I love you too."

They stood just like that for what seemed hours, Lucy felt so relief and happy… even with something bothering her. Like someone staring at her. She looked up just to see Laxus gazing at her. She smiled and the dragonslayer looked away. What was going on with her blond man? She growled and his lips pull up, just a little before he had a devilish smirk on his face. Smug bastard. And yet she loved him so much that she found herself smiling again. Stupid dragonslayer.

After hours travelling, with the consequential motion-sickness for Laxus, they arrived to Magnolia and they went straightaway to the guild: get something to eat and just hang out with their friends. The three of them needed it, but Lucy more than them, she needed to hang out with her friends, see if any of them could fill the hole in her chest that had started to hurt. And she didn't even know why! Seeing her friends would cherish her up and Lucy would be fine again, though not complete. Alas, her friends had gone on a mission for the day and she was left alone with Mirajane, who was a great companionship, but… she was busy with other members of the guild. Ugh! She wanted to have a friend who would never leave her side! She sighed and rubbed her forehead, too tired to stay in the guild any longer. Her men were with their friends, drinking and laughing upstairs and all she wanted was to grab them and get them home…

Suddenly, the door was open and a shadow stepped in. Spiky, long hair and blood-like eyes, a piercing stare were the most prominent features of the shadow. Not his piercing and not his cat companion. His eyes. Something clicked in Lucy, the hole in her chest was suddenly filled and everything made sense. She didn't even realised she had gotten up or that she was trembling. Lips parted and tear-filled eyes, she was a mess. His gaze was upon her and she could actually see life returning to him.

"Lucy…" She didn't give him time to say something else.

Her legs moved on their own, she was running towards him and his arms opened to her, taking her into his embrace. She only cried a word.

"Gajeel!" His name.
