A/N: This one is dedicated to George [TREE!] who left me a ton of email alerts with reviews and stuff, and made my day! Plus she's also a super friend. :D
Anyway, this is Marlimmer, as it should be, I hope you all enjoy it, and if it gets a good response, I might just do some about their childhood. c;

In the seventy fourth Hunger Games, the two tributes from District One held a secret that would have changed the outcome of everything if it had been revealed. They had been neighbours and friends in their luxurious district for their entire lives, they even shared the same birthday. They would always train each-other, and make sure that their skills were honed so that if they were to ever be reaped, then they would be sure to win. They were careers after all. But that was not the secret.

Marvel and Glimmer were deeply in love. Whilst Peeta and Katniss had been thrown into a cruel game and their love had been displayed openly on the screen, Marvel and Glimmer pretended that their love was absolutely nothing. It was as if their childhood and teenage romance had never happened.

The night before they were due to go into the arena though, just like Katniss and Peeta did, Glimmer and Marvel met up. As soon as they locked eyes in the hallway, Glimmer ran into Marvel's outstretched arms. "I can't do this," she said, her voice muffled. "Yes you can," Marvel stroked her hair, his chin on top of her head. "Everything will turn out to be just fine." He paused, and so did his hand. "I love you,"

She lifted her head up from his shoulder, her eyes red. "I love you too," They kissed, and at that moment, all that they wished was that their first kiss could have been back home, and that they could have lived a happy life together. A long life.

Now, that was impossible.

As predicted, Glimmer and Marvel teamed up with the other Careers. But they only helped each other in the secret little ways that they could. Marvel always made sure that Glimmer had the most water, and Glimmer tried to get Marvel the weapons she knew he would love.

It was all they could do for each other, but it was better than nothing.

The days went by quickly, and soon it was time for the career pack to find their one true target; the Girl on Fire. When they reached her, in her tree hiding place, Glimmer tried to scale the tree, whilst Marvel stood at the base, always prepared if she were to slip and come tumbling down.

But later on, neither of them were prepared. When the Tracker Jacker swarm got the Careers, Glimmer got the worst of it. Her body, horribly disformed as a result of their venom. Her limbs were expanded and liquid spewed from the lumps where the venom had entered her body.

Marvel only realised she had gone when they escaped the Tracker Jackers, and he let a howl out to the wind, collapsing on a fallen tree stump. Inside he knew he couldn't carry on for much longer. The only thing that kept him going through the next few days was the memories of Glimmer he had in his mind; the pretty young girl with the innocent face and blonde hair, the beautiful tribute in her gold dress in the interviews.

When he finally couldn't take it anymore, it didn't matter, because just when he was about to give up, Katniss shot him for killing Rue. And life stayed true to the saying, what goes around comes around.

Marvel and Glimmer were happy together in the afterlife, and they still are this day.
