A/N: Hey, everyone. Long time, no post. Enjoy!
The Blonde Squad
hey, are you free tonight?
Beck stared at his phone as the text finally delivered. Jade had been blowing off his attempts to talk about them, as a couple. She'd agreed to play a role in his short film and had even looked over his final script, but she refused to talk to him about anything else.
Why?
i thought we could hang out
No.
i think we should talk
I don't have anything to say.
well i do
Say it to yourself then.
Beck sighed. He knew that she was still upset with him for how they broke up and the months leading up to it. But he was right. They were fighting too much and Jade was being too insecure. That wasn't really true though. He knew when he started dating Jade that insecurity would be part of their relationship and he'd agreed to that. Just like Jade had agreed to deal with his difficultly expressing himself.
are you gonna be at the table read tomorrow?
No. I'm going to skip town because I'm an unprofessional flake.
i didnt mean it like that
Whatever.
Next Day
"Alright guys, that's it for today. I'll see you guys tomorrow for the first day of filming." Beck glanced at Jade as he dismissed the table read. He was hoping to be able to catch her before she left. Tori turned to him and started talking about how excited she was, but he could see Jade walking out of the Blackbox. "Uh, Tori, can we talk about this later?"
Tori stuttered, "Oh, uh, I- sure."
"Thanks," Beck muttered as he rushed to catch up with Jade. He turned down the hallway and saw her standing at her locker.
"Hey." Beck breathed as he approached her. Jade looked at him cautiously before retuning her attention to her locker. "Do you want to grab coffee?" Jade's eyebrow shot up. "As friends," Beck hastily tacked on.
"We're not friends."
Beck's brow furrowed. "We're not?"
"No."
"We've always been friends."
Jade slammed her locker closed. She turned to face Beck before saying, "Not anymore."
"But… we've been talking."
"And?"
Beck shrugged. "I just thought…"
"You thought wrong." Jade turned to walk away, but Beck touched her arm to stop her. Jade turned to look at him, pulling her arm away. "Don't touch me."
Beck pulled his arm back. "Sorry, I just- uh, we're not friends?"
"No, Beck, we're not friends." She turned and continued walking away. Beck didn't try to stop her this time.
what do you mean we're not friends?
Jade didn't respond. But Beck didn't understand. Of course they were friends. Weren't they?Confused, he texted Andre.
jade and i…we're friends right?
shldnt u be asking jade that
she says no
then no
but we've been talking
idk how jade thinks
Beck rolled his eyes. Maybe Andre wasn't the right person to ask. Beck thought about asking Cat, but she was Jade's friend and he felt like maybe that was crossing some line. The only option left was Tori.
can i ask you a question?
Sure!
do you think jade and i are friends
Uh…
what?
Does it matter what i think?
jade said we weren't
And u don't agree?
idk
i guess
I mean u guys did just break up
but we've been talking
…
tori, what do you know?
Jade told me that u guys wrnt trying to be friends
when
Idk. a few weeks ago
how many
When sikowitz made us play husband and wife
Beck paused. They were talking then. He told her that he still had feelings for her after that play.
U ok?
yeah, fine. sorry
Next Day
Beck shook his arms as he tried to gather enough courage to send his text to Jade.
i need to know what you mean
He'd been up all night thinking about what she said and he couldn't figure it out. The whole reason he had started texting her was because he didn't want to lose her friendship. Now she was saying he never had it? Taking a deep breath he hit send. Almost immediately she answered.
About what?
not being friends
We broke up, Beck.
i know. but we're always friends
Not this time.
why
Friends respect each other.
i respect you
Then why am I playing the dumb blonde? You obviously didn't respect me enough as an actress to give me a real part.
youre one of the leads
You didn't respect me as a girlfriend either.
thats not true
You were treating me like a child.
no i wasn't!
I don't want to talk about this.
how else are we supposed to work it out?
We're not.
Beck looked down at his phone as it buzzed. They were on a five minute break while they the changed set for his short film.
Why are you wearing that?
He looked at Jade across the room. She was glaring at him. He looked back to his phone to respond.
cause
Take it off.
no
Beck.
jade
You can't wear that anymore.
why not
We're not together.
Why can't you get that through you're head? We broke up!
i know
Then take it off!
being broken up doesn't mean i don't miss you
Stop.
fine. but i'm keeping the necklace on
