UPDATE: This is an updated version of chapter 1. It doesn't change any part of the plot. I went back changed as many grammar mistakes I could find. I also changed some things, slightly.
If you have been following this story from the beginning, thank you for staying. If you have just started reading and following, welcome.
I own nothing except OC's…they should be obvious enough.
Part One: The Truth - Revealed
Chapter One: Oh Baby!
Conan sighed as he walked up the stairs to his temporary home. It was a long school day and he just wanted to relax for the rest of the day. He had told the detective kids that he was busy and he couldn't do any detective work. Of course, he loved solving cases, but Ran's company was more enjoyable sometimes.
He stood in front of the door and was about to enter, when he heard shouting.
"You're not keeping it!" It was Kogoro's voice. Conan put his ear to the door.
"Dad, please."
"No, Ran. No. I don't…no. You're not keeping it."
Conan opened the door a crack. It was obviously a family issue.
Eri was sitting across the table.
Ran looked down, about to cry.
"Kogoro, calm down."
He turned to his wife…if we could still refer to as one.
"Calm down? How can I calm down!?" His tone was angry, disappointed. But why? What wasn't Ran keeping? "Eri," he tried to be as calm as possible, with anger still in his voice, "She's pregnant. She's not even an adult yet. How can anyone be calm?"
"Dad…"
"You're too young."
"I'm not aborting the baby, dad."
"Yeah? And where is he, Ran? Where's Kudo? He's never around. You think he'll come back for this? You know he's always breaking promises and your heart."
Ran looked down.
"Kogoro…" Eri said coldly.
He turned to her.
Ran looked back up.
"He'll come back if I call him. He'll come home if I tell him he's going to be a father."
Conan looked down. Ran…
"No, he won't. You keep telling yourself that, Ran. He can't be here longer than an hour at a time. Ran, he left you. He knocked you up and abandoned you."
It's not like I wanted to… Conan thought in annoyance. He turned around and headed back down the stairs. He needed to clear his head after the argument he just heard.
"He didn't abandon me, dad!" Ran snapped at Kogoro. "He always comes back…"
"Ran!" He laughed hysterically. "Did you not learn a lesson? He's probably screwing off with another girl. He's never around."
"He's not like that…"
"What is he hiding Ran? He has to be hiding something from you. Why else would he not want to be around?" He stood up and walked out the door. He stepped into his office, probably for a beer.
Eri scooted over and held Ran.
"Everything will be fine."
Ran started crying.
"I'm scared, mom."
Conan was walking down the street. He couldn't stop thinking about it, the baby. All of a sudden, he paid a lot of detail to everyone he passed on the street. A lot of people had kids with them, pushing carriages, holding hands.
"You're the greatest daddy in the world!" A little girl shouted as she received ice cream.
Conan sighed and continued on.
He groaned as he remembered the incident with 'Santa'. The little brat was cute, but such a handful.
Conan wasn't really a 'baby person'. He couldn't see himself fathering a child, especially not the way he currently was.
He walked up the path to Agasa's house. He opened the door and walked in.
"Shinichi, what brings you here?" The old neighbor asked looking down at him.
"I uh," he sighed and continued, "I overheard and argument involving Ran and her parents. Kogoro's pissed. Eri was calmer but I think she's pissed as well." He took a deep breath and looked down, "I'm not sure what to make of the situation."
"What is it? What did you hear?" Agasa asked.
Conan sighed.
"What happened?" Yukiko asked, stepping into the room.
Conan turned to her.
"Mom, what are you doing here?"
"We came to check up on you."
"I suppose you came just in time."
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"She's…pregnant." He swallowed hard.
"Ran's pregnant?" She asked. Conan nodded slowly. He watched as a smile crept upon her face. She squealed in excitement. "Shin-chan's having a baby!" Her tone was gleeful. She then reach down and pinched his cheeks, "Shin-chan, I'm not old enough to be a grandma."
He sighed as he pulled away.
"I'm not old enough to be a father either, you know. I don't know what to do."
"You have to be with her. She probably needs you now more than ever before."
"I know but…I don't even know if having a baby is a good choice right now." He looked down. He groaned while sitting on the couch. "She didn't even call me…"
"Maybe she's waiting for the right time."
"I guess…but what do I tell her? Can I tell her my feelings about this without revealing the truth to her? Will I sound like an ass?"
"Well, you'll sound like an ass anyway. You can't stay as Shinichi…"
He sighed.
"I don't just don't know…"
"Let's go home, and you can figure things out there. I'll make you some dinner." She offered. Conan nodded and followed her out the door.
When they walked in, they were greeted by Yusaku.
"Hello Shinichi."
"Hi dad." He said as he headed into the living room and grabbed a book off of the shelf. He began reading. Yukiko headed off into the kitchen.
"You ok, son?"
Conan nodded and continued to read.
Yusaku decided to sit down in his chair and took out his laptop.
A few minutes later Yusaku looked up from his laptop.
"Something's bothering you. What is it?"
Conan sighed. "I suppose you should know too." He set the book down and sat up straight. "Ran's pregnant."
"Oh, son. You didn't…"
"I did. And there's nothing we can do about it..."
"What are you gonna tell her?"
"I don't know. I have to wait for her to call…as to anyone's concern, no one knows except her parents and the doctor. I was eavesdropping…so I'm not supposed to know."
"Understandable. But regarding your situation, I suggest you should be on the down low even more…"
Conan nodded and continued reading.
A few days passed by. Conan stayed with his parents. To Ran and Kogoro, he was spending the weekend with Agasa.
He sat up from his bed and yawned. He didn't get much sleep the past few nights. He climbed out of bed and got dressed. He checked his phone to see if Ran called him and left a message or something.
Nothing. Why hasn't she called me?
He went downstairs and stepped into the kitchen. Yukiko had just finished making breakfast.
"Good morning Shin-chan." She seemed happy.
"Good morning, mom." He sat down at the table and sighed.
"Still no call?" Yusaku asked as he walked in.
Conan turned to his father. "No."
"Give it time. She'll call eventually." Yukiko said as she put a plate of eggs and toast in front of Conan.
Conan ate his breakfast.
"I'll be up in my room…" He stood up and headed upstairs.
"He's taking this well." Yusaku said sarcastically.
"He'll figure it out. We raised a smart kid."
Conan lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. He pulled out his cell phone and looked at it.
Should I call her?
If he called her, maybe it would wake him up into reality or shut him back into a fantasy world and he can stay home for the rest of his life.
The baby was conceived three months ago…
Ran and Shinichi were sitting on his bed. It was a hot summer day and they were in the heat of the moment, metaphorically speaking. Their hormones were acting up.
"Shinichi, I don't know what's wrong with me."
"I can't explain it either." They blushed.
"I'm feeling…horny," she whispered. He leaned down and kissed her.
"Me too."
"Do you want to?"
"We really shouldn't."
"Come on."
"I'm not sure how long I'll be here…"
"That's why we should. Let's prove our love."
"It hurts the first time you know."
"I know, but I'm willing to feel the pain…"
He groaned and kissed her, pushing her down onto the bed.
"You're so stubborn…" he said with a smirk. She smiled back under the kiss.
Conan sat up and shook his head as he remembered. He blushed.
As an outcome to the following events, the condom broke. They didn't think anything of it.
He went to reach for his phone but as he did, it vibrated. He looked down at it. It was Ran.
He held up his bow-tie and answered the phone.
"Ah, Ran. It's been awhile."
"Yeah, it has. Thanks for calling be after our last meeting."
Shit.
"Sorry. I meant to call you, I just…got sidetracked."
She sighed.
"Whatever. Shinichi, I have something to tell you." She started. He knew it was hard for her to find the words. Her voice was cracking up and there was no doubt that she was going to cry either as she said it or after they hang up. "Please come home."
It broke his heart. He wished he could tell her everything. But he couldn't. It was a huge risk he wasn't willing to make.
"I-I can't. I want to, but I can't."
"This is important, Shinichi. Please…"
"I'm sorry. I just can't." he felt a physical pain in his heart. He hated doing this to her. He was the reason she has sleepless nights. She stayed up all night crying. He was the reason she was angry.
"Shinichi,"
Here it comes…
"I'm…pregnant."
It was out. She finally said it. After hearing the words from her, it hit him harder than he thought it would. He had to wake up.
She started to cry.
"Ran. I-,"
"Shinichi, I'm scared."
"Ran…" He looked down. "I have to go…" He clicked off before she could say another word.
He punched the wall as he let tears fall down his face.
Yukiko entered the room. The last time she saw her son cry was when he was very young. He didn't have a habit of letting others see his pain or emotions.
"Shin-chan, are you ok?" She asked. He stared at the wall, refusing to make eye contact.
"She just called. I don't know what to do. I can't go face her right now. I just can't." His mother stepped over and wrapped her arms around him.
"Everything will be fine."
He sighed.
"It's not going to be easy, Shinichi, it never is. But I promise everything will work out one way or another. This is something you both have to work out together. You do what you have to do, whatever is right to you, but I'm going to tell you one thing," he looked up at her as the tears continued, "Don't break her heart."
~End of Chapter.
Hopefully all mistakes are fixed. I did alter a few things, but nothing to change the story.
