Vows

It had been Lenora's idea to have the wedding as soon as possible. Bruce figured it would be a short engagement, but not that short. He had the press down his throat every time he stepped out of the manor. He had already made a public announcement to explain his sudden engagement and as expected, his and Lenora's photo was plastered over the face of every news source in Gotham. Alfred reminded him it was a very nice photo.

When he reached the watch tower that evening, he was bombarded with questions. Superman pushed past everyone. "Okay, when were you going to tell us Lenora was back?" He began.

"And what about the fact that you have kids? Three more of them?" Flash added.

Grumbling, Batman shook his head. "She hasn't been back long. I just found out about my children. You all may be concerned, but I know what I'm doing." He sat down in his usual seat. "By the way, you all are invited. We're not doing formal invitations."

"You want us to go?" Black Canary asked. "That's almost unexpected, Bats."

Another sigh left Batman. "There is going to be a group of powerful demons in my home. I don't need things getting out of control," he explained.

The League knew better. This was his way of saying he wanted them there even if he wouldn't admit it himself.

"And you haven't met her parents yet have you? Oh that's going to be rough. Good luck!" Green Arrow slapped his back causing Batman to glower at him. "You're uninvited," he grumbled out.

….

The League sans protégés arrived at Wayne Manor dressed in formal attire. It was nearly dark, and the wedding would begin shortly. Alfred greeted them warmly and ushered them down to the basement where candles had been lit to set the mood.

"It's a little creepy in here," Barry stated.

"Yeah, is Bruce sure this isn't a sacrifice?" Oliver laughed and Dinah joined in.

"It's the closest level in my home to Underworld." Bruce's voice startled the League. He stood at the top of the stairs in a black tuxedo with a black button up looking sharp. Over his tie was a gold plated crest adorned with a sigil. A few of them recognized it as Lenora's protective spell. Bruce reached the bottom and continued speaking.

"And I'd appreciate it if you refrain from commenting on Lenora's traditions," he paused. "Only I can do that."

A relieved laugh erupted from the League and they prepared for the arrival of Lenora's family. Bruce ordered them around, as usual, showing them where they would stand and what to do if things went south. He always had a plan.

It didn't take long for a black flames to appear near the north wall of the basement. Suddenly, a group of people stepped out from the flames with piercing eyes trained on Bruce. The two at the front of the group were dressed in elegant robes of midnight blue with gold embellishments. Horns curled around their skulls and each wore an ornate crown. 'So these are her parents,' Bruce thought as he approached them. He looked over the demons behind them. All of them appeared different and he recalled Lenora's stories of the different races back home. The group was small by what he considered royal standards, but he was happy not too many of them had come. It would be less of a hassle if something got out of hand, and with the way her parents were looking at him, things might just get out of hand.

Zatara, understanding the customs of Lenora's world, bowed as they entered and the League took note and did the same. Bruce, however, simply nodded his head earning a snarl from one who was obviously Lenora's father. Luckily, the children entered the basement at that moment with shouts of "Luka!" and "Lukeni!" taking the attention off Bruce for a short while. The League could not believe how much the two older siblings looked like Bruce.

"Did he shit them out?" Hal whispered under his breath to J'onn and Clark causing the latter to snort.

Queen Lukeni stepped forward and greeted Adam, Adelle, and Caira lovingly. She spoke in quick Insuccubi too fast for Bruce to understand any key words. Dick stood back while his siblings greeted their grandparents. First of all, they looked mean. Secondly, he wasn't really their family so he didn't feel he should greet them. At least not yet. His siblings quickly picked up on this and began introducing everyone.

Bruce had Adam translate the conversation with his soon to be in-laws while Adelle and Caira introduced the remaining party to the League. Zatara understood some of what they said, so he carried on a conversation with one who had come, a woman with a shadowy presence in a glittering black gown. Everyone felt relieved to know that only Lenora's parents, the King and Queen of the Insuccubi, were uptight. The remaining group seemed more at ease and happy about the wedding.

The conversations continued making Bruce feel more at ease although he was sure his in-laws were exchanging pleasantries solely for his Lenora's sake. 'Oh!' It suddenly occurred to him that that sounded right. She was his Lenora and he was her Bruce. He smiled inwardly at the thought.

Suddenly Luka and Lukeni stopped speaking and quickly stood at attention, eyes trained on the stairwell. For a second, the League, Bruce included, moved to react, but then they heard the door open and turned to see Lenora seemingly float down the stairs Alfred in tow. Bruce had tried imagining what she would wear knowing she wouldn't be in a traditional wedding dress, but he never imagined she's look so beautiful. Lenora was draped in black robes threaded with delicate gold filigree. Her black dress was low cut, but tasteful and his eyes were drawn to her neck where the same crest he wore was hanging. Her hair had been pinned up and a hair comb with a long, black veil had been placed behind her horns. Bruce thought she looked ethereal and nearly missed his cue from Adam to follow his in-laws.

As they approached her, she placed her hand over her heart and curtsied to the floor. Her parents bowed in return and her father kissed her cheek lovingly. She turned to her mother as she did the same, tightly hugging her as well.

Luka began speaking to the group in Insuccubi, taking Lenora's hand hesitantly placing it in Bruce's own. Her father whispered something secretly in her ear that make her lean closer to Bruce and she harshly whispered back. Bruce made out "yes" and "sure", frowning at the exchange.

"Let us begin," Lenora quickly cut the tension and led Bruce to the center of the dark room. Her eyes caught those of the League and she smiled at them shyly. She couldn't wait to catch up with them as soon as the ceremony was over. Some of them looked shocked still not used to seeing her after so long, but many smiled back and Lenora forced herself not to cry.

The remaining party from Underworld ushered the League to form a large cirle around the immediate family that has already circled the bride and groom. The candles flickered and burned brighter as the stepped into place.

Lenora's parents peered down at Dick disapprovingly but quickly averted their eyes when he met theirs making him feel uneasy. It was clear they intended for only family to stand with them and he was not family. Adam and Adelle gripped his hands tightly reassuring him which only served to lift his spirits momentarily. He didn't want to admit it, but as happy as he was to see his mentor and father figure marry Lenora, he couldn't wait for this night to be over so he wouldn't feel so out of place.

From the stairs, Alfred moved to make his exit before Lenora called out to him beating Bruce with a victorious smirk.

"Alfred, please join us. You are our family too," she gestured for him to join the inner circle. With a gentle smile and a nod, he made his way next to Luka and gave him and the Queen a deep bow. They sighed but returned the curtsey with a nod of acknowledgment.

A demon with graying hair came forward and began speaking not that anyone other than the demons and Zatara could understand. Lenora had at least given Bruce enough preparation to know what was required of him, though he was not looking forward to the blood binding that was to come. He didn't particularly mind the symbolism behind it, but he didn't like the idea of having to intentionally hurt his future wife even if she could heal herself.

The elder demon, Behil as Bruce recalled from Lenora's history lessons, raised his palms and a goblet appeared in one. A dagger soon fell into his other one. The dagger was passed to Lenora and she winced as she slit Bruce's offered palm. To him it was a small price to pay to marry her.

"Sorry," she whispered embarrassed.

"I'll have my revenge in a moment," he smirked closing his fist above the goblet that had somehow already filled with what he hoped was wine.

He took the dagger from her, trying to cut her palm as gently as possible. He was grateful she didn't wince. She added her blood to the goblet and took it from Behil. Her vows echoes deeply in the room and Bruce's heart swelled as she proclaimed her love for him in her native tongue. She then took a long sip from the goblet, licking her lips as she passed it to him. Thankfully, she had taught the vow to him in English so that he could say it without embarrassing himself in front of her family.

"With this sip, I join our houses and bind our life. I swear my loyalty to you until my last breath and will love you all the days of my life. Yalem hakir zrah." As he took his sip, Lenora visibly shuddered, her eyes closing tightly.

"Are you alright?" He quickly grabbed her hand avoiding the one he had cut.

"Yes, it's just the bond." She pointed to her chest where her skin had raised as if branded from the inside and Bruce had to stop himself from running his fingers over it. It was a ring of tiny sigils he could barely make out. Behil placed his hands over the cup and it disappeared. He turned towards Bruce and surprised him with words he could understand.

"Congratulations Princess Luthael and Lord Wayne. You are wed."

….

The next few minutes were spent thanking everyone for coming. The League monopolized most of Lenora's time asking her questions, hugging her, and commenting on her children. She was finally pulled away by her mother who whispered something to her privately. Adelle and Caira, who were at their mother's heels, made faces and screamed "Gross!"

Lenora laughed and rolled her eyes as she pet their heads. "Is four grandchildren not enough for you?" She taunted in Insuccubi, watching closely as her mother bit her tongue. Lenora knew she did not consider Caira or Richard real grandchildren, but she would not let her mother ruin her day.

"We will be hosting a reception if you care to join us." She added as she took Bruce's hand, her children latching on to the two of them. She was glad when her parents agreed to attend. Bruce was not as delighted.

…..

When Lenora woke up the next morning, Bruce was already getting dressed for the day. He was pulling on his shirt when Lenora gasped startling him.

"What is it?" He turned to face her and saw she was pointing at his back.

"You have a bond mark," she exclaimed standing up and letting the blanket fall away. She touched his back and pulled him toward the full length mirror.

"Look!" Bruce turned and saw he now had a matching brand in between his shoulder blades. "You're human, but you still formed a mark. I've never heard of this happening!" Lenora was amazed.

Bruce looked from his mark in the mirror to the reflection of her eyes.

"What can I say? I'm Batman." He smirked and kissed her deeply.
