Visionary

By The Queen's Fabler

Mother had once said that I was a visionary, like father, and like herself.

"Darling, being a visionary is the very best thing you can be. While most wizards may look side to side, we look above and beyond into the havens. We look past the stars and into galaxies, we find what is more, not only what is."

I suppose that is actually the sort of thing that I do most. Hermione often tells me nargles or heliopaths do not exist. My question is, where is the evidence that they do not exist?

"Do not limit yourself to the standards of wizarding society, Luna. You will be a great witch one day, and when that day will comes, I shall be happy to see it."

The only problem with what mother told me, was that she died the next day. It was rather sad, and father was devastated. He was never the same afterwards, no matter how hard he tried, he was a distorted echo of himself.

From that moment on, I kept that final lesson to heart. I began looking for what is more, not what only is. That is possibly the reason why I do not listen to people when they laugh at what I say, when they scoff at my beliefs, or when they call me Loony.

I know the truth, and it's that they are so narrow-minded. They believe what is impossible shall always stay impossible. They forget the word impossible, cannot be spelt without the word possible. By being narrow-minded, they miss everything else.

To this day, I look to the stars and try to see what is there. Beyond the planets, and stars, and into the inky depths that hold the secrets of the universe. It is there for all to find, but only to those who can see and to know where to look.

I pity those souls who spends their entire lives living by evidence and call themselves "realists." They lack faith in the greater beyond, and the hope to find more. They do not realise that there can be more.

I still miss mother terribly, but I know that our separation will not be forever. The ones we care for most are always with us, and guiding us when we need it.

Father says I am very much like mother. I really hope that is true. Just the other day, he said we were actually the same, that ….

…we were both visionaries.
