A/N: Jane seemed genuinely surprised that he'd told Lisbon about his memory palace. He covered it up by smiling, but there was something in his eyes that hinted at a deeper shock, in my opinion. So here's my attempt at getting into Fugue!Jane's head.

His attraction to the flame-haired detective – Grace, was it? – is immediate and visceral. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous, but she's clearly in a vulnerable state; ripe for the picking. She's vulnerable, but she has enough fight left in her to be interesting. She's an attractive puzzle, and Patrick loves puzzles.

The other female detective, though, Teresa… there's something about her. He's strangely drawn to and repelled by her, and it throws him off a little bit. (Not that he'll ever let on, of course.) She's another puzzle.

Clearly they were close, but he can't figure out exactly how close. She reacted with genuine surprise at the thought that they might be sleeping together, but her body language suggests that she's comfortable in his presence. She doesn't just look at him like she knows him, she looks at him like she's looking into him. Like she's looking into a him that he rarely acknowledges. It's a bit unnerving.

But what really throws him off is this: she knows about his memory palace.

To the best of his memory, he's never told anyone about his memory palace. It's… private; deeply personal.

She doesn't seem to understand what his having told her means, though.

"We're friends," she'd said, as though that explained everything.

Patrick has had many friends over the years.

He's never told any of them about his memory palace.

No… this doesn't make any sense.

However, if he and Teresa were involved in some fashion, then figuring out the exact nature of that involvement will require accessing his emotional memories. And there's obviously an emotional trauma in his past that everyone's tiptoeing around.

Perhaps this puzzle – regardless how intriguing – is best left unsolved.
