~**Distort**~
This clash was far worse than any other before. Even now she wondered how she had survived.
Her body hurt, seemed to pulse out pain from every nerve. Lightning groaned, tensed up slightly, and that was when she noticed it.
She was being carried. And there was only one person around to do that.
Lightning stayed as still as she could. At the moment, she felt too drained to protest the treatment or to try moving on her own. The thought of standing up alone was quite unappealing. Etro willing Caius would leave her be once he put her down, hopefully sooner rather than later.
It was strange being carried like this at all, though. He held her as a man would his bride, her head resting upon his right chest. But all she could think of was why he was even doing this. She expected to be left out there until she could return on her own, not be treated like this. It was too decent for someone like Caius.
Lightning felt his grip on her shift to bring her closer to him, and she then fell back into unconscious.
When she came to again, she was being laid down on a floor, and she hoped Caius would not linger. It would not take long for her to be well again, but she wished to do so alone. Being carried away from where they battled was bizarre enough without having unwanted company during her recovery period.
He said nothing to her, probably thinking she was still unconscious. And she was grateful for that. She didn't want to hear him speak now, wanted to avoid the eventual tease for just a while longer. But, as much as she appreciated the silence, his presence was unnerving and it made her suspicious.
Though, when she felt his hand touch the top of her head, her suspicions grew higher. Fingers combed through her hair, careful and slow, and Lightning wondered just what he was planning.
She wanted to be left alone. She did not understand why he would touch her like this, why he would even be so kind as to carry her back. They were enemies; if anything, this was the most opportune moment for him to strike once more. She was braced for that as best as she could be in her current state. But nothing else happened besides the movement of his hand, and the confusion over his actions was beginning to become irritating.
Without warning, his lips touched hers for the smallest moment, not long enough for her fury to fully build, before they were gone. When she dared to open her eyes, Caius was also gone.
She tried to push it out of her mind, but it kept coming back. Caius had kissed her. It repeated itself in her head over and over again to the point where it became even more unbearable.
And, for as long as she stayed conscious, all Lightning could truly wonder beyond that was how the line that she thought symbolized their rivalry had become so distorted.
