Authors Note: When I was watching Cars 2 (for the 600th time), I heard Mater saying to Finn, "This one I can reach into a cars' hood, pull out his battery, and show it to him before he stalls. I call it 'what I accidentally did to my friend Luigi once'." and I wondered, 'How did THAT happen?' This is My theory.

"Hi-YA! Hoi- YEE!" Lightning McQueen's eyes snapped open as he heard… battle cries?

He opened the door to his Cozy Cone and looked out. The outside of the Cozy Cone Motel was completely deserted. Lightning rolled down his ramp and leveled out as his whitewalls hit dirt and gravel.

On the new black asphalt to Lightning's right, a rusty tow truck was flinging himself around in a sloppy, ninja-like fashion.

"Mater? What ARE you doing?" The red racecar asked his best friend.

"Shh!" The truck hissed, "I'm a karate master!" Lightning smiled tolerantly and rolled his blue eyes in a joking sort of way.

"Reeeeeally?"

"Yeah. Don't tell nobody! I'm undercover!" He put emphasis on "undercover", as if he was proud to know the word.

He continued to throw his body around, completely unaware that his antics had attracted a crowd. Doc, Luigi, Guido, Ramone, Flo, Red, Sheriff, Sally, Lizzie, Sarge, and Fillmore watched him beat up the imaginary enemies, everyone's eyes sparkling with amusement.

Mater spun in a circle, hook whirling. It accidentally swung around and almost hit Fillmore, who backed away wordlessly.

Mater noticed and turned to Fillmore to apologize, but his hook kept spinning.

There was a sickening "crunch" of metal and a screech (an ITALIAN screech) followed by a collection of gasps and Italian swear words that made Guido fall over in a dead faint.

Lightning stared in absolute horror, along with numerous other residents. Mater's hook had speared right through Luigi's hood and as the tow truck turned to see what happened, his hook was wrenched out. But it wasn't alone.

Attached to Mater's hook was a battery, wire bits poking out around the edges, still sparking. Luigi couldn't take his eyes off the battery suspended in the air by a rusted hook. The hole in his hood gaped hideously.

"Mama Mia." He murmured, then his eyes rolled back in his head and the yellow Italian car stalled.

Mater turned to everyone else, battery still hanging off his tow cable.

"Oops."
