It was pleasant.

Very pleasant.

Cindy sat next to him, furiously typing on her laptop. She was whizzing through her English homework while Jimmy tinkered with the Shrink Ray, currently in disrepair due to an incident involving Sheen and limited room at the special Ultra-Lord Movie screening.

They weren't doing anything important. They were just sitting next to each other, working. Yet, Cindy was intoxicated by the pleasantness of this moment. She could, out of the corner of her eye, see his hands working carefully on his gadget. She could sense his thoughts rushing in that big, stupid, and beautiful brain of his. Occasionally, their arms touched and it sent electricity through her bones.

She knew Jimmy Neutron very well. She had been with him through thick and thin, good times and bad, arguments and a few kisses even. She knew how his brain worked; she knew the way he held himself; she knew the way he walked. The brown hair, blue eyes, and that idiotic, arrogant smile were all so familiar to her. There wasn't anyone else she was so comfortable with. Unlike most, she could burst out in anger (as she often did) and Jimmy would understand she didn't mean it. And she knew he didn't mean all the egotistical things he said, something very few people understood.

"You know, Cindy…I think I like you." Jimmy broke the silence, not looking up from his work. Cindy, however, whipped her head to face him, a blush creeping up her face.

"You mean, like…a crush?" Cindy asked, scared. The thought of actually dating him still seemed so foreign.

"No. I mean, I think I genuinely like you. You know, as a person. I used to hate you so much. But I get it now, you know? And I think I actually like you. Very much." Jimmy continued to work on the Shrink Ray.

"Oh." Cindy paused and stared at him for a moment, then went back to working on her paper. However, she found it hard to concentrate. After a few minutes' pause, she spoke.

"I think I like you too." She looked over at him.

"Good." He looked at her and smiled that ridiculous smile.

They both turned and went back to working. Cindy smiled to herself as she typed. This was one of those moments she wished could last forever. But she also knew they would end up fighting tomorrow. It didn't matter, though. They both knew it wouldn't change anything. They would always like each other; secretly, they always had. Maybe someday the like would change into something more, and Cindy didn't think she would mind. As long as they still had moments like these.

It was pleasant.
