{AN: I own nothing, and i'm sorry for the wait!}
Ed looked around as Stealclaw slowly set down on a large miserable looking island. He could hear Draco complaining and shivering from a few dozen feet away. "Be quiet!" Ed whispered angrily, tired of having to listen to the surely teen. He smirked as he heard a thump before the two hippogriffs took off and left them.
"Why are we here!?" Draco demand angrily with more than a touch of fear, dusting himself off after Valkrie shifted and boosted him off. He hadn't been expecting it, and had in fact stumbled and fallen flat on his arse before blinking away his confusion and horror and getting up only to see their only way off the island leaving. He stared after the two birds in horror before turning and seeing Ed walking towards the prison.
"Looking for my wand. How often will I have to repeat that, kid?" Ed asked as he climbed up the craggy rocks and looked at the huge...building. "This is a crazy shape for a prison. Is there a reason its so…big? Are there that many dark wizards and witches?" Ed asked, propping his fists on his hips and looking up and examining the building. "And theres a huge chunk missing from it too!"
Wincing in annoyance and fear Draco slowly approached the man insane enough to actually want to come here. "You're going to have to ask Hermione or some other know-it-all those questions. All I know is we shouldn't be here! Can't you feel them?!"
Ed looked back from the boulder he was standing on to wait for Draco to join him. "Feel who?"
Draco glared as he watched Ed turn to look at him, as if he would willingly climb towards this place! "The dementors of course! They make you remember your greatest fear! Why are we here! You wand isn't here, remember!? My fathers men would have grabbed it, they grabbed all the wands." After saying his peace Draco slowly backed away from the building.
Ed paused and studied Draco before turning back to examine the building much more closely. At first glance it did look like just a huge triangular building with no doors but many small windows. When they were up in the air he had been able to see that the center was empty. Surrounding the large building on the island was a huge wall. 'Wonder what the walls are for…' And on the outside of the walls, where the two of them were standing, was tons of boulders. There was no plant life, no trees, nothing living at all. He did feel…something but he wouldn't call it his greatest fear.
'Edward, this is where you were when we last talked to you.' Blinking he focused inward as Marian's voice penetrated his thoughts. 'Why have you returned here?'
'Because I think my wand was here, and I'm retracing my steps, hoping my memories will come back. Why, do you know something?' Ed asked, walking back to Draco, whom had started pacing and talking to himself.
'No dearie, we don't know anything. I just recognized this presence is all.'
'What do you mean, presence?'
'Something trying to get into your mind. The last time you were here there was more of them.'
Ed paused just a second before jumping down beside Draco. 'You mean you, and the others, are blocking the Dementors from getting into my mind?'
'That's right, son. We don't want them in here riffling through your mind, especially since we are living inside of you. It would be like allowing a monster in our home.' He could practically see her shivering in disgust.
'Well thank you. I appreciate you helping me.' Ed said, watching as Draco grabbed his head and moaned as if in pain.
"They're gonna tell him. They're gonna hiss and moan in his ear and he's gonna know I'm with you. He's gonna tell my father and he's gonna hurt mother…We have to leave. We have to leave right now."
Ed leaned back when Draco turned un expectedly, his eyes crazed. "We need to leave. Right now. I can't be seen here with you." Draco turned and started towards the water, before stopping and looking around in confusion. "Why can't I apparate away? That the hell is going on?" Turning he glared at Ed. "This is your fault."
The waves rose before crashing, making Ed blink. In that one second Draco had reached up and grabbed his shirt, pulling him closer. "We need to leave!"
Ed grabbed Draco's hand and forced him to release his collar, eyeing his anxious eyes, the cold sweat beading on his skin, the shivers taking over his form. 'So this is what the presence of the dementors does. And none of them are actually close. Hm…' "Calm down Draco. We will be fine. In fact, do you have your wand?" Ed asked, reaching his hand out for it. Before Draco could put his wand away (he had been trying to apparate after all) Ed grabbed it.
"Hey! You-"
"I am making it possible for us to infiltrate this building without being seen. Now shut up."
Draco glared angrily and yanked on his hand, the urge to leave the biggest thing on his mind.
Ed ignored the tugging on the wrist he was holding and instead focused on the wand he was holding. It didn't want to allow him to use it. Like it's master, it was a picky piece of shit. Narrowing his eyes he focused on the wand, ignoring the wind picking up around them.
In moments he had the wand subdued, at least for the moment. 'Stupid unicorn hair, loyal to a fault. Normally admirable, but at the moment not needed.'
Flicking the wand at Draco he watched as the teen shrank into a small black fox. 'Hm, not what I thought he would turn into.' Clapping his hands he touched one of the boulders and made a small harness and strapped it on the wiggling fox, ignoring his whimpers. "Calm down, Draco. Its just a changing of form, your still you. Its only temporary."
Pointing the wand at himself he used the same spell and made himself into a fox as well, also black but larger than Draco's. Barking he caught Draco's attention and shook his fur. Bending he grabbed the wand in his teeth and pinned Draco with his paws against a boulder in order to wiggling the wand into the harness. He didn't trust Draco to not drop it if he had him grab it in his mouth.
'Alright, this is going to be interesting.' Ed thought, watching as Draco stumbled and tripped over his own paws. Rolling his eyes he grabbed the smaller fox by the back of his neck, careful to not break the wand, and turned, looking up at the much larger boulders in calculation. Ignoring the struggling form of the boy he took a running start and used his stone to amplify his jumping to make it easier to ascend to the prison walls.
Within moments they had reached the huge, mold infested wall surrounding the prison. Ed dropped Draco on the ground before trotting right up to the wall and touching one paw to it, just to check and make sure there was no door already existing anywhere. Sure enough, it seemed like the whole structure was just a continuous loop around the prison. With a few spells and jinxes to prevent any muggles from seeing it, of course.
Ed closed his fox eyes and focused on his stone and using it to make a small tunnel through the wall. Luckily, and stupidly, the wall was only made to keep muggles out, not to prevent anyone from creating a small hole. Once the tunnel was made, with a small door at the other end just in case someone was on the side, Ed turned to find Draco only to see him shivering right behind him and looking into the tunnel with his ears pinned back.
Ed sighed before bending down and grabbing Draco by his scruff, with his mouth, once again. It was a good thing he was changed into a young fox, otherwise Ed would have just left him to mope on the side of the island. As it was, being smaller made it easy, and more than possible, for him to carry the scared teen farther into the oppressive prison.
Looking around Ed made sure that with every step he took his stone closed the tunnel behind them. Sure, he didn't really have a way off this hunk of rock, but he knew from experience that leaving your entry point open would let others know that your there.
Ears twitching as he walked he made sure to listen, over Draco's whimpering, for any signs of life. He had taken Draco under his protection, in a way, and had no desire to have him injured. He didn't need that guilt, he had enough as it was.
Meanwhile Draco was still in shock that, once again, he was changed into an animal. Last year it was a ferret. This year, a fucking fox. 'Why am I always changed into an animal. Do I have a sign on my head?' Being so preoccupied he didn't notice, yet, that the feelings of fear, depression, and angst that he had been feeling since stepping foot on this island were dampened. Almost muffled, as if being an animal was allowing him to ignore the fact that they were walking into the home and feeding ground of the dementors.
After a few minutes they arrived at the end of the tunnel, and Draco had a moment of hope because there was no door leading out of the wall they were in. He should have known better. Ed dropped him on his butt, and Draco made a whimpering bark in complaint before standing shakily on his feet. Ed turned and looked to make sure the half of the tunnel they had gone through was closed before turning to look at Draco.
Draco attempted to back up only to trip over his own tail, and Ed sighed once more. He had a feeling he was going to be sighing a lot in the next little while. Stepping forward Ed grabbed the wand with his teeth and concentrated before shaking his head to cast the spell. As he regained his human body he ducked down into a ball. The space wasn't necessarily big enough for a full grown human. Luckily, the rest of the tunnel wasn't closed off and he was able to fit without crushing Draco.
"Alright, listen." Draco was gazing up at him in fear, obviously expecting the worst. "I don't have a plan, not really. Do you know where they keep the wands, yes or no? Just nod or shake your head."
Draco rapidly shook his no and whimpered. 'Why are we here? God damn it, his wand isn't here! What's the point!?'
Ed was still talking, and Draco blinked to realize he was actually expected to be listening. 'hey wait!'
Ed stopped when Draco barked at him and sighed. "You weren't listening, were you?"
Sheepishly Draco shook his head in the negative. "Alright. So, for the second time. I wont be able to carry you around everywhere. From what I'm told, dementors wont fully effect animals. There's a sense of what they emit, but it wont be debilitating or anything. Nothing like how it was for you on the rocks where we were. So, I want you to walk on your own the rest of the way. Stick close to me. I'm going to leave your wand strapped to you, so if we do get separated you can change your form. But your only goal, Draco." Ed waited to make sure he had the boys undivided attention before continuing, "Your ONLY goal is to stay close to me. You want to learn more about me, fine. I like you enough to let you. But you gotta stay close. If we get separated I'll try to find you but I make no promises. Got it?"
Draco nodded, reluctantly. He did want to learn more about Ed, especially how he made this tunnel. All he did was touch the wall and red lighting appeared and made the tunnel. How did he do it? How can he do it without a wand? Without any potions or anything? Draco needed to learn in order to keep this power away from the dark lord.
"Good. Ok. You follow me. That is it. FOLLOW ME." Ed said, grabbing the fox head gently and making Draco look him in the eye. Ed watched in satisfaction as he saw a new determination take over Draco's eyes before he nodded. "Alright. Now lets go." Grabbing up the wand from the ground Ed pointed at himself and changed back into a larger black fox. Draco willingly turned and held his ground as Ed wiggled the wand back into the holster.
Barking Ed caught Dracos attention and posed in a defensive cautious position and waited for Draco to copy him. Once he was satisfied Ed looked towards the wall and used his stone to make the brick of the wall into a curtain, and carefully crept forward, making sure to be quiet. His ear twitched as he listened approvingly as Draco copied him. That's a step up from when they were in the forest.
{AN: Alright, so. I wont give excuses. I was legitimately at an authors block, and I had RL problems I had to deal with. But this never left my thoughts. Its been so long that I've forgotten my original goals. But, I recently re-read my story and I felt the urge to try to continue. This is just a teaser chapter. The next will have a tons more. I might be changing a few things from the books as well, we will see. Hopefully it wont be anything small either. Let me know what you think I should change! Who knows, it might be the same thing that I change :) }
