Months had passed and Jareth never got a letter back from Violet. She still sent letters to Evnic but she had refused to share them with her King. He was starting to think she had completely forgotten about him till he did get a letter. It had felt like decades since he last saw or heard from her. Opening the letter it was an invitation to the Braveheart Kingdom for a festival. It was in honor of the royal family's return back home. It was open to all and the nobles with a guest of their choosing could stay at the castle. There was to be games, plays, food, drinks, and much more but all that flew over his head as he read the most important part of the letter.
There is to be a tournament at the end of the festival's sixth day. If you wish to prove your love to;
Princess Violet Artemis Bracheart
Then face off with the other suitors in this game of wits, strength, and will. If you win the Princess will bestow upon the winner gets a kiss.
Those who wish to join the tournament must only present the princess with a flower of their choosing that they believe best represents the Princess.
Was that it? So be it. He would do anything to feel her sweet kisses. He truly wanted to spend an eternity with her. He would be overjoyed if he could have an eternity with her. Anything would be better then being in this castle without her by his side. Seeing when it was he went to tell Evnic and prepare for it.
\-/The Day of the Festival\-/
Kings, Queens, and nobles from across the lands and realms poured into the Braveheart Kingdom. They saw dragons and the faces of smiling subjects as they watched the carriages. Beautiful bright colors flooded the streets as people cheered and dance. In front of the castle stood the King and Queen as their daughter stood in front of them. Tanis's hair was slicked back curling outwards as she wore a white gown, the sleeves flared out covering her hands, flowers were stitched of all the colors imaginable around the hem of the skirt, and a sword was strapped at her side. Drago's hair simply laid around his face, a pale golden tunic adorned his body, a midnight blue robe with the constellations stitched laid on his shoulders. They both wore crowns made of transparent crystals of varying sizes with pointed edges. Violet who stood in between the two wore a golden gown, a silver dragon's head was on the bodice, swirls forming interact patterns breathed out of the dragon's mouth and down the skirt of her dress as it flowed around her, a white transparent sleeveless robe was pulled against her body by a violet sash, and silver headband swirled out flaring around her ears and coming to a point on her forehead. Her hair came in waves down her back and across her shoulders appearing longer then it was months ago, there was even white streaks flowing through the waves that were not there before. Her lips were painted a pale pink with dark emerald eyeshadow to accentuate her violet dragon eyes that glowed in the sun.
Jareth's POV
Was it possible she got more beautiful since I last saw her? She looks like a true goddess. A princess would not suffocate the true wonder of her being. I wanted her. I needed her. I won't be able if I failed to show her my love. I had to show her my love. I looked when someone gripped my wrist to see it was Evnic. I had gotten lost in thought and almost stepped out of the crowd.
"Welcome, to the Braveheart Kingdom," Tanis said smiling brightly and holding her arm out in welcome.
"This festival is to welcome everyone back to the Kingdom and to form new relationships and mend ones that have been broke," Drago said as Violet stepped forward giving a small curtsy.
"Please do make yourselves home. Our home is yours during the time of the festival. We hope you will enjoy the festivities," Violet told them as I looked at her violet eyes the pupil a thin slit as she smiled to everyone. I didn't want her sharing her smile or gentle air with anyone even though she appeared much more confident then when she was with me. She was gentle, sweet, delicate like a flower. Violet looked more confident, as if she was truly complete. My songbird had claws now, she wasn't afraid to show them either. Watching her stand up straight Violet folded her hands together. Someone walked up to her, it was a dark elf wearing spectacles to protect his eyes as he bowed taking Violet's hand and kissing her knuckles. I glared at him not enjoying some other man getting closer to her.
"My dear princess it has been so long. Thank you for inviting my family to the festival. I hope you have time for some games with your dear friend," he said lifting his head as he still held her hand close to his lips. She smiled brightly bowing her head some.
"Of course my Lord Casper, if I have time you will be the first person I spend it with," she said taking his hand and bringing it closer. Before letting it slip from her hand she stepped back. "Now excuse me, I have other things to attend to." She then turned and left as Tanis and Drago spoke once more.
"Spend the day with our people and at night come and feast in our halls. Seek us out if you need us we are never far," they told us all. Walking through the gates they breathed in the air. The magic felt comforting, like nothing could happen. I felt my shoulders slump and relax as my eyes closed for a moment. Suddenly I heard giggling as I turned to see Violet hugging Evnic as she hugged her back as tightly the two smiling brightly.
"I've missed seeing you Violet. The letters could never fill the emptiness you left at the castle," Evnic told her as Violet smiled gently to her before they hugged each other more. Pulling back she looked at Violet up and down. "You look magnificent, Violet. I mean Princess." Evnic said before moving to give her a curtsy as Violet giggled covering her mouth some before giving her a curtsy back.
"Thank you my lady, months of lessons and training have been worth it. I know a certain fallen angel that is looking for you by the way," Violet told her winking some as Evnic blushed before smiling brightly. "I would love to catch up but I have many guests to get to know and reknow. Please forgive me for not spending more time with you." She said looking to her a bit sadly. Evnic nod her head as they hugged quickly. Violet turned to me and I froze before smiling to her.
"Princess, you look divine, truly a goddess walks amongst us," I told her bowing to her with a hand over my heart. Lifting my eyes to her she had a sweet gentle smile as I saw she had the same longing in her eyes seeing me. Sadly that lasted for only seconds as she gave a curtsy to me closing her eyes.
"Goblin King, please enjoy the celebrations," she then turned to walk away looking to me as I saw a bit of mischief in it. "I wait to see what you will do to woo me back."
"I will move mountains for you," I told her. "The stars if I must." She giggled smiling before looking away.
"Sadly I do not wish for the mountains or stars to move," she told me before beginning to walk away.
Violet's POV
I only want your heart to be mine. I thought to myself as I began to talk with all our guests and watching everyone. So many men and women came up to me telling me how beautiful and that they felt so lucky to be able to meet me. I didn't think it was lucky, we invited them over. Of course they would meet me. Though I guess I was thinking very literal and not simply what they meant. Even then, I still did not truly understand. I was not worth all this admiration. A tap on my shoulder took me from my thoughts as I turned to see a vampire. He wore a flamanco hat to cover himself from the sun. Seeing this I smiled.
"My Lord, since you passed through the gate you are safe from the sun's rays. You do not need to wear your hate. You have my word that you will be fine," I told him as his eyes widen behind his specs before he removed his hat slowly. He was silent for a minute before smiling gently to me as I smiled back.
"It's been so long since I last felt the sun on my skin without it burning. Truly this is a wondrous feeling. Thank you my princess," he said taking my hand and kissing the knuckles but I saw him sniff my skin before looking to me giving a smile. "You smell divine, I apologize if that sounded, rude."
"I take it as a compliment. You must have an excellent sense of smell if you can smell my blood, my lord. I'm the least bit offended. After all I am a dragon even underneath this form, my sense of smell is good, but I fear not as good as yours," I told him giving a small curtsy. He chuckled before letting go of my hand and bowing to me.
"I am Count Dracula or King of the Undead as many know me for. Please do just call me Dracula, dear Princess," he said before looking to me with glowing red eyes. I smiled back giggling.
"Only if you will honor me as well by calling me Violet instead of Princess," I told him as he smiled nodding his head. "Were you aware of all the novels and evolutions of vampires the humans have created? One author even put that vampires do not burn under sunlight, but instead sparkle." He got this disgusted look as she shook his head sighing.
"Humans are strange beings with their fiction," he replied back as I giggled smiling. "I would be honored if you could show me around the different things I can do here."
"But of course Dracula," I told him. Taking his elbow he offered I held my skirt in my other hand as not to trip over it as I showed him around. We spoke of the mortal realm and of the games.
"Will you be participating in the competition of suitors wanting to win a kiss from me?" I asked as he smirked some before chuckling.
"No my dear, if I truly want to win your heart. There are much better methods then a competition," he told me looking down at me as I smiled brightly blushing lightly.
"Yes but this is after all a festival. What is life without a bit of competition. It's more for everyone else then for me," I told him as I knelt down letting some kids slip a flower crown on my head as they giggled before running off as I stood back up smiling brightly to them.
"You are very generous, I see you will make an excellent ruler. I only hope that the person that you choose to rule with does not try to control you as many will seek todo," Dracula warned me as I smiled to him.
"Do not fret my Lord. I will not be making that mistake. I learned my lesson when I was mortal, never again," I told him in a stern but calm voice. No, I won't let someone fill my head with sweet words and promises unless they tend to keep them. Even... even if I might have to let go of Jareth. My heart ache at the thought of not being with him. My mind reminded me that even though he said he loves me, doesn't mean it is true. Maybe in that moment of time he did truly love me, I'm a princess now. Now he could be using me. I don't know what hurt more, being so close to him and not being able to kiss him, or that I was just a pawn he wish to manipulate for his own games. I knew the gentle sweet Jareth, did I know The Goblin King though? Turning to Dracula I bowed to him slightly. "Please pardon me. I have other duties to attend to." Dracula bowed as well to me smiling gently.
"Do not let me keep you from them. I hope to see more of you soon, Princess Violet," he told me before taking my hand and kissing my knuckles. Smiling to him I turned and walked over around greeting our guests and making sure everyone was well and nothing had happen. I gasped as I was lifted off my feet and looked to see it was Casper. I giggled wrapping my arms around his neck as he spun me around making me giggle more at his antics.
"To the games, Princess. You've done enough and I very much demand some time with you," he said grinning brightly as I smiled tilting my head back some as I couldn't hold back my laugh.
"Alright Lord Casper, I believe I can spar a moment of my time to indulge you," I told him keeping my arms wrapped around his neck incase he tried to drop or lost his grip on me. "I do hope I am not heavy for you. I can walk if it would be easier." I replied back keeping my polite tone as he chuckled.
"You are light as a feather, Violet. You could wear all the armor and you would still not be heavy to carry," he said smirking to me slightly.
Jareth's POV
I growled slightly at the dark elf lifting Violet up. First Dracula made her blush now the Dark Elf was making her laugh and holding her. I could not find the right moment though. Sighing I left Violet be and went to one of the tables sat around and sat down. Watching everyone I lean my head on my open hand closing my eyes for a moment.
"My King," I heard a voice say as I open my eyes. They widen seeing Sarah as I moved to sit up straight looking to her.
"Sarah... what are you doing here?" I asked her in disbelief. She couldn't be here, this had to be an illusion. She smiled to me moving closer to me.
"It's been forever since we last saw each other. Knowing you, you might have been spying on me though," she told me looking up at me with innocent eyes and a sly smile. "I'm not angry, I expected you might pull something childish like that."
"What are you doing here? Who brought you here?" I asked her once more looking around.
"No one, I recieved an invitation to come here. Apparently they didn't want their friend to be all alone which I see where they got that idea that you would be. Really? The Goblin King sitting by himself with no woman to keep him company?" Sarah said putting her hands on her hips. I rolled my eyes turning to walk away but she grabbed my arm making me turn to her. "Don't just walk away from me, Jareth."
"Pardon me," I heard Violet say as I looked to her my heart skipping a bit. Oh no, this isn't good. She only smiled sweetly to me then to Sarah. Walking past me she held her hand out to her. "Welcome to my Kingdom's festival. I do not believe I am familiar with you. May I ask your name and where you hail from?" Violet asked her as Sarah took her hand and smiled.
"I'm Sarah Williams, I'm from a small town," she told her as I watched. Violet giggled some smiling.
"Oh? Which state are you from then? I'm only curious as to how you got here is all," Violet said letting go of Sarah's hand who looked Violet up and down.
"You rule these lands right?" Sarah asked her as Violet giggled smiling brightly like she didn't have a care in the world.
"No, my mother and father are the rulers. I am only their child but it is my duty as Princess to greet all that visit our kingdom," she told her bowing her head in a humble manner.
"He told me about you. He said you were very sweet and enchanting," Sarah told her as Violet smirked.
"All roses have thorns, Ms. Williams. Even I have thorns of my own. Do enjoy your stay, if you need anything then I will never be far to help," Violet said before walking away as she cast her eyes on mine before she disappeared amongst the masses. I sighed gently wishing she would have stayed a bit longer.
"She's 'cute'," Sarah said as I glared to her.
"She isn't cute, she is beautiful and a dragon princess," I told her moving to walk away and find Violet.
"Does she know about how you kidnapped my brother, forced me to walk through a labyrinth, eat poisoned peaches, and tried to make me love you?" Sarah spouted as I stopped gritting my teeth. "But, a part of me does love you Jareth. Maybe we can get off a better start now that I am here." Looking to her my eyes widen as she smiled not seeming to be playing with me. I couldn't be sure though, Sarah could be lying or she couldn't be Sarah. Maybe she was a shifter. Though even though it could be possible that this was a fake Sarah. My heart jumped with joy that a part of Sarah loved me. Could I really let Violet go for Sarah though?
