A Wisp of Shadows
A Sherlock Holmes drabble

Note: The Sherlock characters belong to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, not me. I'm jealous of Guy Ritchie, too, and his amazing Sherlock movies… Read, review, and enjoy!

Finally, it had happened. John was sore, yes, but he'd made it through the previous night to marry Mary. Oh, lord, if Sherlock could only hear his internal ramblings at the moment—"marry Mary" sounded like the beginning to some insufferable tongue-twister or inane children's rhyme. Sherlock was bound never to forget it if John ever mentioned it to him, taunting John all the time with its insipidness…
But no, that wasn't going to happen, because John wasn't going to tell him. Of course not.
There would be a lot of things John wasn't going to be able to tell his friend anymore.
John blinked as he and Mary sauntered past friends and family. What was he thinking? He would be sharing everything with Mary now. There was nothing wrong with that; Mary was his wife, his significant other.
Though…Sherlock was his better half.
The grass felt slick like mud as John kept one foot ahead of the other as the newly-wedded couple reached the end of their little procession. Feeling a familiar set of eyes on him, John picked his head up and looked further down the pathway, to where a figure was partially silhouetted in the darkness of an archway.
John knew those dark brown eyes and knew the subtly disappointed expression that must be accompanying them. In that second, John's hand on Mary's arm felt alien to him, and he stumbled slightly as they were preparing for the turn to face the crowd. John reaffixed his eyes on that figure under the archway—but it was just in time to see the figure drop his head and turn away from the festivities.
The good doctor embraced the festivities, though he felt he should've gone with Sherlock instead. And he couldn't quite place why.

I've had a thing for Shertson for several years now, but I'm only finally getting off my butt to write for them after seeing the 2nd film with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Good thing the movie gave me a few ideas!
Thanks for reading—and please review!
