Wilderness
Note: This is something that came to me, I don't know if it's any good or not. Please be nice.
Disclaimer: I do not own Sherlock Holmes or any of the characters although that would have made a very good Christmas present.
When Holmes said he had got a new case I was delighted at first. He had been in a black fit for a while and I was becoming more than a little worried for his well being. However when his new case caused him to go scouring the remote English countryside for clues my delight began to subside somewhat. Even this would have been ok if I had not been dragged out with him winding up camping in the middle of nowhere on rough ground. Of course had I still been in the army these sleeping arrangements may have been considered pretty decent but I had grown accustomed to a life of comfort, if one can have comfort when living with a man such as Sherlock Holmes. My war wounds would not thank me in the morning.
It was difficult to settle down into a comfortable position to sleep in. However this task seemed easy compared to the task of actually getting to sleep with Holmes nearby. I knew Holmes was a restless sleeper but this was ridiculous. He got off to sleep fine but he kept tossing and turning and muttering in his sleep. Luckily I eventually fell into a very light slumber but it was better than nothing.
In the middle of the night I was woken up by a violent shaking. For a moment I was disorientated but then I remembered where I was, of course it was Holmes shaking me out of my much needed and much fought for sleep. I was not happy. "What do you want Holmes?" I asked, my voice riddled with frustration but as I anticipated he was oblivious to thins, much too focussed on whatever he felt the need to wake me up for.
"What do you see Watson?"
"I see the stars Holmes," I answered trying to withhold my temper as best I could.
"And what does that mean Watson?" I had no idea what answer he was looking for so I did what he always told me to do and condemned me for not doing. I looked for the small details most people would miss.
"It means, my dear boy, that it is about half two in the morning and I should still be sleeping. It also means that Pisces is just about to rise and that Jupiter has just risen." I had no idea if this was the answer he was looking for, if he was looking for more detail, but my mind was still too foggy from sleep. I was not expecting the reply he gave me.
"Watson, you fool, it means that somebody has stolen our tent."
