Anders has tried so hard these last few years. Every playful comment and lovely smile cracks his heart a little further, but for her own safety he pushes her away. He's dangerous, he's a killer, and he'll only destroy her.

But he's only human (or so he desperately tells himself) and he just can't stay away. Those beautiful eyes pull him in, that cheerful laughter makes his entire day better, and even demons couldn't resist that pout when she wants a favour. And she always brings him food, all concerned and stubborn and glaring until he eats it all. She is good and kind and sweet and perfect and the only light in his life, but he has to stay away.

And he tries. Oh how he tries. But she visits All The Time and he just can't make her leave no matter how blunt he is and even his harsh words just make her smile slightly and stand in the corner until he's finished with his latest patient. And sometimes even her just standing there and watching is such a distraction that it's all he can do not to rush his healing and just push her up against the wall and take her then and there. Maybe if he just gets it out of his system he could stop but that would be so wrong to her and he knows anyway that one time would never be enough. It's all or nothing and she deserves so much more than his all, his nothing.

He tries to stay away but she asks for his help and Justice is fuming inside his head but if Justice was human he wouldn't be able to say no either. The smile that lights up her face when he agrees is worth it, drowning out even Justice's hiss of disapproval. And she helps the mages. She saves them all and angrily defends him to the others (though he knows he doesn't deserve this). Fenris sneers at him behind her back and even Varric watches him cautiously but that's ok because he's dangerous and he needs someone to stand between them so that he won't break her.

But she just keeps visiting and smiling and worrying and one day he just can't take it anymore and kisses her. And it's fantastic and wonderful and she tastes as sweet as she is and it takes everything in him to move away. The look in her eyes nearly undoes him again, but he steadies himself with his hand on the wall next to her and breathlessly tries to warn her off for the last time, knowing that he can't go back from here unless she lets him.

And of course she doesn't. With a coy glance over her shoulder she retreats to her home and he can't help but follow her. Justice is furious with him and tries to make him stay but Hawke is his everything now and the thought of disappointing her tonight helps him push his anger away.

It's even better than he dreamed. She is all passionate kisses and soft skin and he just can't control himself around her anymore. She is even more beautiful than he thought, gasping with pleasure and crying out his name in his arms. She falls asleep, curled up against him like a cat, and he thinks his heart will burst for the love of her. She is so beautiful, so innocent, and he can't keep his eyes (or his hands) off her.

He's dangerous, he's a killer, and he'll only destroy her. Right now, he loves her too much to care.
