You're Still You

Disclaimer: Not my characters. Do not own. If I did Prim would still be alive.

I am washing the dishes and watching my children sing and dance outside. "They're fine Sweetheart." I smile as he wraps his arms around my waist from behind. "I know Peeta," I say. "I know it's over." We stand in silence for a while. Then before I realize it I begin to sing:

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where they strung up a man they say murdered three.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where the dead man called out for his love to flee.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Wear a necklace made of rope, side by side with me.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

As the last note is sung I feel both relieved and foolish. How could I have sang such a morbid song when I should be trying to be cheerful. However, Peeta would definitely not have a flashback or an episode from hearing it. "Was that the song you sang before they rescued me?" I nodded. "Yes it was." He buries his face in my hair.

"Your voice is still beautiful Katniss." I blush and smile. I finished the last of the dishes and turned in his arms. "And you're still the boy with the bread." He grins, leans down and kisses me softly.
