Private Peaceful

Another journey.

The sun was high up in the sky, glimmering on top of me, making me sweat. I was wondering how to break the news to Moll, Mum and big Joe. I couldn't go trough with it. But I had no choice and they deserve to know that their loved one was gone, forever. Especially his son, Tom. I still find it weird that they named their child after me and whenever I call for him it seems like I'm calling myself. After a while I see a house that I once lived in. I see Mums garden and that she has been taking care of it. She planted ripe red roses in front garden. As I went closer to the house, I noticed that the roses were recently watered, meaning they were home.. I ran inside the house and shouted out "Anyone home?"

I was delighted that I was home, and I could smell that Mum had been cooking bread in the oven. I run up stairs to see Moll sitting on Charlies bed with Tom in her hands.

Once she sees me she puts the baby down quietly on the bed and runs over to me to give me a hug and a kiss.

"I've missed you so much." she said in a comforting voice which made me feel happier than I was before.

"How's Tom?" I asked as I separated from the hug and walked towards him.

"He's good but he will be even better when he gets to see his Daddy." She says smiling at the baby and me.

My smile faded away when she says that and she notices it but doesn't bother asking what's wrong. "Where is big Joe and Mum?" I asked to change the subject.

"Their gone to Granny Wolves house for tea." She answers back but doesn't seem as happy as she was when she saw me. " I'm going downstairs to see how the bread is going. I've missed Mums famous cluster bread." it was awkward moment, I didn't know what else to say." I will come with you since I did cook the bread." she says with a dirty look on her face.

"Whoops, sorry... I... i mean... I didn't know." I stumbled trying to say sorry.

"It's fine. I know you miss your Mom a lot." she smiles back at me and I give her a smile back. I go to pick tom before I go downstairs with Moll. I've missed her smile and her laugh so much. I feel bad that Charlie isn't here to Moll's smile and his son growing up to be a great man like him.

We went into the dinning room and sat down for awhile. Moll went in to the kitchen to get bread. She left tom with me. I was thinking of a way to tell Moll that Charlie isn't coming back. I'm quite surprised she hasn't asked where Charlie is yet. What if she knows I start thinking to myself, what if he sent her a letter saying he won't be back anymore. I start to think all the possibilities why she isn't asking for him.

she comes back with a big grin on her face and I was wondering what was so funny.

"Whats so funny?" I ask with a puzzled look on my face.

" Nothing at all. why would ask you such a question?" she answered back to me with even a bigger smile on her face.

" Nothing, you just looked like as you were laughing at something." i say, trying not to laugh myself. I don't even know what was so funny but I just couldn't help it.

"Where is Charlie?" she asks finally. But i couldn't tell her. I couldn't just wipe away her happiness.

"Ummm... he isn't coming back. He... he has to stay there another year to bring honor into our country."it was so difficult but i couldn't tell her so I made up a lie.

" What? no he didn't tell me that, he didn't send me any letter's saying that." she starts raising up her voice.

" I know he didn't but he told me to tell you because he couldn't put himself to put a frown on your face. he wanted to make you happy." I lied again I just couldn't tell her.

She was so upset, went to pick up the baby and went upstairs in huff. I wouldn't blame for doing that.
