Be Happy

Angela Rizzoli had never cried this much in her entire life. Neither had Maura Isles. The woman they both loved was the cause of the tears.

Jane had been shot three times that day. Maura knew in an instant that it was fatal. Though Jane woke up in hospital, she didn't have much time left. There was nothing anyone could do for her.

"Janie..." Maura's eyes teared up again as she clung to Jane's hand. "Please..."

Maura's logic told her that Jane would not survive, but she didn't want to believe it.

"Maur," Jane croaked. "I love you, so much."

The Rizzoli family was gathered in the corner of the room, watching the exchange with tears in their eyes.

"I love you too, Janie. Please," Maura's voice cracked and she cleared her throat. "Please don't leave me."

Jane shook her head slightly. "Maur, you have to promise me something."

"Anything."

Jane took a deep breath and winced in pain. Maura's tears slipped onto Jane's arm.

"Maur, promise me that you'll love again."

Angela sniffed loudly. "We'll give you girls a minute," she breathed.

"No, Ma, stay. Its almost time."

Stone-faced, Angela remained in the corner, Frank held her close. Jane's eyes found Maura's.

"Please, you have to promise me," Jane's voice was getting weaker. "I want you to be happy."

Maura shook her head violently. "No! I can't be happy without you."

"Take care of each other," Jane said to everyone in the room. "I love you all. Maur, please promise me."

"I- I'll try, Jane. But I can't promise."

Jane's eyes closed slowly. "Be happy," she whispered.
