Hetalia Meets Wikipedia: Italy

(Jumps onto the scene) MY PEOPLE!

ML: Everyone.

I've missed you all so much!

ML: You sure about that? With the super long hiatus, to the point many believing this story to be dead-chazu?

I am serious, ML! Completely sincere! Everytime I see a notification for a favorite or a follow for this story, I would get this feeling in my chest, disappointed that I wasn't providing you all with anything. (Droops sadly onto the floor)

ML: (Walks over to me and pats me on the back) It's okay. You're here now, aren't you?

(Stands back up) That's right! And so here I am, doing a total revising of the story. It's a good plan, since I know that all the Wikipedia information I pulled up would be outdated at this point. So revision is good!

ML: Don't forget revising your other story, too.

Oh yes! I'll be revising Little Setsu-chan too! At this point, that story is the most popular one I have posted on here. So it would really be good for the readers if I revise and update that story real quick too.

ML: But let's focus on Hetalia for the moment, okay Taiyo-chan-chazu?

You're right, ML. Now here are the current stats for Hetalia Meets Wikipedia: Italy. This story is made up over 11,700 words, 22 reviews, over 9,000 views, 51 favorites, and 45 followers. Good, good, for a story with only 4 chapters.

ML: Mostly because it all piled up from you not updating in years.

Shush you! Now, Let's see if we can increase those stats. It's story time now! ML!

ML: Tayo-chan does not own Hetalia-Axis Powers or Wikipedia. She is only using these two entities in order to spread all the chaos that she likes.

Hey I don't bring out chaos! Chaos always come to me. But that's beside the point. Onwards!

Chapter 1: The Basics of the Italian Republic

It was another World Meeting for the various nations of the planet.

This particular meeting was being held in the United States at the UN Headquarters in New York City. As the host nation, America had felt that it was his duty to start the meeting off with a productive discussion on global warming.

If by productive, you mean that America spent a good chunk of the meeting stating outlandish ideas, ranging from covering the planet with aluminum foil to protect it from UV rays to creating a giant robot names Globo-Man, then yes it was very productive.

("Oh come on, robots are awesome! They would make the perfect defense!"

"No they would not, you gormless git!")

You can imagine the chaos that was transpiring.

As this point, nobody was really paying attention to the argument going on. Several countries had settled into the back and were playing a card game. The Nordics were having some type of discussion, though Norway looked like he was a moment away from choking Denmark with his tie.

Germany, bless him, had tried to keep some type of order but was being ignored. Now he held his head in one hand, his fingers pinching his temple. Only time would tell before he exploded with rage. Italy was patting him on the back while Japan tried to console him. It wasn't working very well.

France was egging on the argument happening between America and England because that was just what France did.

England was just about to get up and make the bloody American choke on his stupid ideas. He was sure he could reach across the table to do if he jumped at just the right angle. However, the Englishman's murderous thoughts were interrupted when the oak doors to the conference room suddenly shattered into pieces.

The room went into shocked silence as the delegates stared at the pieces scattered on the carpet.

"What the bloody hell was that…?" England muttered as suddenly a black combat boot made its way inside. That boot led up to the body of a young girl. She was young looking, about 15, with light sepia brown skin, brown eyes and black hair done up in dreadlocks that reached her shoulders. A pair of black glasses covered her eyes. She wore a tight, black t-shirt that had the logo 'Rock On!' done in a gritty lettering style and navy blue denim jeans covered in zippers that went to her ankles, though they were partially covered by her boots. Over her shirt was a bright lemon-yellow jacket that looked too big on her thin body and a small blue backpack slung over her right shoulder.

Though the strangest thing about her were the cat ears. Actual, honest to god, cat ears they could tell were real because of how they twitched every few seconds. There was a matching tail that extended behind her. It had a red ribbon tied around its end. Both appendages were a tan color. But that wasn't the most surprising part about her.

What was the most surprising was the wide, absolute shit-eating grin that decorated her face. It scarily reminded everyone of Prussia at his worst.

(Near Germany, with his own shit-eating grin, Prussia watched the chaos unfold.)

The girl looked around the room wildly until her eyes fell on the area where America was. She squealed loudly, clapping her hands in glee, and sprinted towards America, her eyes gleeful and arms spread wide for a hug.

America was shocked and confused in equal measures, but then he gave a bright grin and opened his own arms for a hug. This girl had probably instantly recognized him as the Hero he was and wanted to show how grateful she was for his hard work. The girl caught up to America –

-and ran right past him in favor of glomping the space next to him.

"Maple!" a disembodied voice called out as the body of a young man with wavy blond hair and violet eyes appeared out of thin air.

(Holy shit! It's a ghost!"

"Quick, call an exorcist!"

"Ve~ Doitsu, I'm scared!"

"It's okay Italy. There is no such thing as ghosts.")

The girl paid them no mind and continued squealing and hugging Canada. "Oh my God, I can't believe that I'm finally meeting you, Mattie!" she yelled as he lessened her hold on Canada enough so that he may breath.

"Who?" Kumajiro asked from his spot on Matthew's lap. Matthew looked like he may answer, but the girl rolled her eyes and beat him to it.

"Matthew. Canada. The one who feeds you every day." she stated, rolling her eyes.

"Oh." Kumajiro muttered and settled himself back in Canada's lap.

The girl nodded in approval before her eyes settled around the room. Then she spotted the Italy brothers and had a repeat of her actions earlier, bringing Canada with her (who was shocked into silence at the fact that somebody knew who he was).

Italy was confused as to why he was randomly being hugged, but didn't mind and hugged her back. Romano was cursing to the heavens, struggling in the surprisingly strong grip. Spain smiled at the very cute scene he was watching.

"Excuse me, but who are you supposed to be? And how did you get here in the first place?" Germany demanded as he strode over to the group hug. His face was set into a stern frown to gain the girl's attention, annoyed that the meeting had been derailed even further than it had been moment ago.

Canada, Italy, and Romano (who would never admit it to the potato bastard) all trembled in fear at the angry German, but the girl didn't seem affected at all. In fact, her eyes practically shined with glee as she turned her eyes onto Germany.

"Oh Luddy, you really shouldn't frown so much. You need to learn how to relax more." The girl's tail wagged behind her rapidly. "In fact, I think you could use a hug too!"

Germany didn't even have time to blink before he was crushed in an over-enthusiastic hug. Mein Gott, this female was strong. Prussia cackled in the background, from both the girl's actions and the fact that Germany was called Luddy. Other nations who weren't as bold as Prussia merely snickered or disguised their laughter as coughing.

"Hello?!" America called out, waving his arms around. "Who are you supposed to be and why do you keep hugging people?" 'And why didn't you hug me.' He wanted to add.

The girl looked up and released Germany, looking sheepish. "So sorry! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Taiyo-chan!" Taiyo-chan tilted her head. "Or at least that's my nickname cause I'm for sure not gonna give you my real name."

'Damn.' Thought everyone who had the faintest thought of looking up the girl's identity.

And I am here to help all of you poor nations!" Everyone was considerably shocked at this revelation. This human knew who they were?

"Wait just a minute! How in the world do you know that we are nations!" England yelled from across the table. A few others nodded in agreement.

Taiyo-chan just smiled and brought out her book bag. She opened it and dug inside it for a while, until she came up with a series of manga volumes for Hetalia-Axis Powers.

Japan paled when he saw the books. 'Oh dear.' he thought.

"Neehh! This is how I know! From the manga of you guys." Taiyo-chan goes around handing out the books to all present. They all stared with surprise and horror at the books.

"Somebody seems to be stalking us, da?" Russia says, smiling innocently. Latvia shook from his seat next to him.

"Japan, why is one of your citizens writing about us?" Germany asked the shorter Asian nation.

"I have absolutely no idea how this happened." Japan answered calmly. On the inside he was slightly regretting telling Himaruya about the adventures of his friends and himself. Though the manga was very popular in his country.

"Ohonhonhonhon. This is a most interesting book, non?" France added in, amused at the images he was viewing. Especially with Angleterre in a nurse's outfit.

"Well this is very surprising-aru. But still how did you get to this room?" China asked coolly, eyebrow raised high.

"Oh… I took a plane here from Florida for a class field trip. I can't believe they actually allowed a bunch of sophomores to travel this far up north." She shrugged. "Oh well. Anyway, because of the UN Meeting they're having further downstairs, I just knew I would find you guys here. And I did!" Taiyo-chan gestured wildly to all of the room.

"America, did you know about students coming over today?"

"Dude, I don't know everything about every person who comes into this building."

"We're really on the low radar in comparison to dozens of other people walking around. But enough of that, IT'S TIME TO HELP!" With that, Taiyo-chan dragged out a large, clunky laptop from the depths of her backpack.

("Is anyone else confused on how that thing fit in her bag?"

"It's not just you."

"Oh thank God.")

She took out a cord, plugged it into her laptop, and then connected the cord to the overhead projector in the front of the room. Once she was sure the connection worked, Taiyo-chan started up her laptop and the projector flashed onto a well-known website.

"Wikipedia?" Alfred asked incredulously. Taiyo-chan nodded her head vigorously.

"Yep! I have come to the conclusion that you guys don't know each other very well. And how some of you barely know about each other's history. And the fact that you all still have hang-ups over loads of things that have happened way in the past. Centuries for some of you." Taiyo-chan shook her head. "Not very good if you guys are trying to promote and encourage global cooperation."

"So!" She clapped her hands."To sort all of these issues out, I have decided to give you lot a history refresher!" She pulled up the Wikipedia page she wanted and looked over to the Italy twins.

"Italy~! Romano~! Could the two of you come over with me please?" she asked, her eyes wide and pleading. The added effect of her ears just added to the image of a pleading kitten.

Needless to say, Italy was sold right then and there.

"Ve~! Come on fratello, this seems fun!" Feliciano chirped as he dragged a protesting and swearing Lovino by his wrist.

"God dammit, no I do not want anything to do with that crazy bitch!" Romano struggled all the way to the front of the room. Once there, Taiyo-chan nodded happily and zoomed in the computer screen.

"Now then, I shall begin this little presentation with the Italy brothers!" Taiyo-chan exclaimed, the page presented for all to see.

"Nein! What makes you think I will allow this, little girl!" Ludwig came over and glared at the human.

Taiyo-chan just smiled lightly and clapped Germany on his broad shoulder, squeezing it gently.

"Ludwig, you really shouldn't be such a stick in the mud." She started squeezing harder on the shoulder, her eyes gaining a manic gleam. "And you really shouldn't mess with other people's fun, ja?" Germany shuddered and tried to pry the hand off, but the human just wouldn't let go.

She was eerily reminding him of Russia. And nobody wanted to be reminded of Russia.

"Now then, you should really sit down and listen to this or I may just have to erase you." Out of nowhere, a giant pencil appeared into Taiyo-chan's unoccupied hand and she pointed it at Germany, the lead glinting evilly. "Okay?" Taiyo-chan stated. Ludwig nodded stiffly and was relieved when she let go off him, but she kept the pencil out.

("Okay, seriously, where the hell did she get that pencil from?!"

"It's like Hungary and her frying pan!")

"Okay then! Now we may officially start!" The human reverted back to her cheery demeanor at an inhuman speed and pointed at the twins. Everyone stared in silent awe and fear. She managed to intimidate Germany into submission. Such a being must be observed warily and with respect.

"I don't understand what's happening." Canada whispered, clutching his bear tightly. Somehow he found himself seated right next to Taiyo-chan's laptop, though he had no idea how.

Taiyo-chan reached over and patted the blonde on the head. "It's okay, Matt. Everything's just fine." Canada didn't look reassured but said nothing else.

"You know these guys as Italy and Romano, North and South Italy, or the Italian Republic. They are part of the European continent and are in the European Union." Taiyo-chan pointed at the screen with her pencil. She adjusted her glasses and began reading.

"Now, Italy's capital and largest city is Rome. Their government is a Unitary Parliamentary republic. That basically means the central government is the main power, the legislature must have confidence in this government to do its best for the country, and everything about the country is considered public matter, not the private concern of the ruling government." Taiyo-chan looked around the room. "Questions so far?"

Nobody spoke up for several seconds so Taiyo-chan took that as her cue to continue.

"Italy shares open land borders, meaning people can move between countries with few problems, with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino, and Vatican City. San Marino and Vatican City are independent states, enclaves within Italy. Italy covers 301,340 square kilometers of land With a population of around 61 million, Italy is the fourth most populated country in the European Union and the most populated in southern Europe. Does everybody follow?" Taiyo-chan asked looking away from the screen.

"I love sharing a border with Big Brother France and Mr. Austria!" Italy exclaimed, clapping his hands in delight.

"I sure as hell don't." Romano grumbled.

"Neither do I." Switzerland commented. He had been suspiciously quiet throughout the entire fiasco but now he was glaring at Italy. "Especially when that little fool decides to go streaking across my border." Italy quelled under the glare and clutched Germany tightly.

America raised his hand. "Question. What 301,338km squared suppos' ta mean?" England face palmed, at America's improper language and the lack of knowledge.

Taiyo-chan's ears twitched slightly and she tilted her head to the side. "Well, since your country doesn't use the metric system, I guess that would add up 116,347 square miles if I know my math." Romano stared at her.

"You're reading it off the screen, dumbass."

"….So mean." The authoress muttered under her breath, her tail swishing lightly. Italy watched it move, fascinated with it. He reached out to touch it, but Germany held him back.

"Alright, where was I…. Oh yeah! Rome, the capital, was for centuries the political center of Western civilization as the capital of the Roman Empire."

At the mention of Roman Empire, both Italians zoned out to memories of their grandfather. Feliciano with pleasant memories, while Lovino, not so pleasant memories.

"After its decline, Italy endured numerous invasions by foreign people, from Germanic Tribes, to the Byzantines, the Arabs and later the Normans and Spaniards, among others. Centuries later, Italy became the birthplace of the Renaissance, an immensely fruitful intellectual movement that would prove to be integral in shaping the subsequent course of European thought."

"Ah~. You forgot a detail, mon Cherie. How France was one who influenced the little Italy to the Renaissance." France said, a rose appearing in his hand and winking at the young girl. As a young woman, France thought he could charm her.

But Taiyo-chan didn't look affected at all, instead she just frowned at Francis. After a moment, she reached into her jacket, pulled out a hardcover book, and through it at the unsuspecting French nation.

"Merde!" France cried out as the book nailed him straight in the face. Arthur and Alfred both began laughing at his misfortune, while a few others snickered. Matthew looked worried for his former father figure and reached out to help him, but Taiyo-chan stopped him from going.

"Don't try it Matt. He deserved it. Don't fret and just sit down for now." Canada nodded uncertainly and sat back down in his chair. He was honestly scared of the girl but it was nice she didn't forget him.

France got back up and pointed accusingly at the obviously insane teen. "Where in the world did you get that book!?"

"Hammerspace. And there are plenty of more things inside. Sharper things and I may just aim lower." Francis shuddered and covered his… vital regions. Taiyo-chan smirked knowingly and returned to reading.

"By the mid-19th century, rising Italian nationalism and calls for independence from foreign control led to a period of political upheaval. After centuries of foreign domination and political division, Italy was almost entirely unified in 1871, the movement known as Risorgimento. That was the point the Kingdom of Italy was established."

"Ve~. I was really glad that me and fratello got to be together again. I wasn't able to see him in such a long time. Not after I left with Grandpa Rome." Italy smiled happily and enveloped his brother in a hug.

"Dammit, let me go you fucking idiot!" Romano shouted "And besides, you're sorry ass probably couldn't handle yourself on your own. Of course I had to come back for you." He muttered quietly, his cheeks tainted a bright pink. But Italy heard the last comments.

"Romano would miss me!"

"No I wouldn't!"

"Lovi~! Your face is turning red, mi amor. Just like a tomato!" Spain added in.

"You stay out of this, tomato bastard!"

Taiyo-chan didn't even bother to stop them. She found it rather cute and endearing, even with Romano's potty mouth. "From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, Italy rapidly industrialised and acquired a colonial empire. This empire extended its rule to Libya, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Albania, the Dodecanese and a concession."

Everybody blinked and stared at the twins. The Italy's were that powerful in the 19th and 20th century?

"Yes, yes they were." Taiyo-chan stated, reading their minds.

And how she did it you may ask? With her mystical Kami powers that's how.

("Okay, I'm very scared of this girl now."

"You're not the only one.")

"Today, Italy is considered to be one of the world's most culturally and economically developed countries, with its economy ranking eighth largest in the world and third in the Eurozone. As an advanced economy, it has the sixth-largest worldwide national wealth, and is ranked third for its central bank gold reserve. Italy has a very high level of human development, and it stands among the top countries for life expectancy. The country plays a prominent role in regional and global economic, military, cultural and diplomatic affairs, and it is both a regional power and a great power. Italy is a founding and leading member of the European Union, and a member of numerous international institutions, including the UN, NATO, the OECD, the OSCE, the WTO, the G7, the G20, the Union for the Mediterranean, the Council of Europe, Uniting for Consensus, the Schengen Area, and many more."

"Italy has the world's ninth-largest defense budget and shares NATO's nuclear weapons."

"Ve~! We're involved everywhere!" Feliciano said happily.

"Of course we are, idiotta." Lovino said grumpily.

"Wait a minute, Italy has nukes?!" Alfred questioned dramatically, pointed at both Italians.

"No shit, Sherlock." Romano called out. Arthur twitched at the insult.

"Please try to refrain from insulting Sherlock." He muttered, absently slapping away a curious France's hand.

"As a reflection of its cultural wealth, Italy is home to 54 World Heritage Sites, the most in the world, and is the fifth-most visited country."Taiyo-chan finished and stared around. Mostly everybody was listening in on the history lesson she was giving.

Taiyo-chan turned around and gave Germany a bright grin. "See, Luddy! This is a great idea! It's for the better understanding of all of you."

Germany just stared at the teen with a withering look. Frankly, he was a bit surprised that the Italy brothers were so influential, especially in military affairs. He wondered why they didn't show that skill in real battle.

"This…" he began. "This isn't going to end very soon, is it?"

Taiyo-chan just grinned, her ears and tail switching excitedly. "Nope~!"

HAHA! That's one chapter redone! I hope all of you readers enjoyed it, old and new.

ML: And you actually made it longer than the original chapter. Well done.

I know, right? I didn't think I could do that, but here we are now.

ML: You still got Chapter 2, 3, and 4 to go and edit.

Oh yeah! Sorry folks, I have to keep this end note short, got work to do. Bye!

ML: Goodbye-chazu.
