Twisted Paths
Chapter 9
The Fellowship of the Ring
(Part One)
Okay guys, here's the deal. Both of us Haruno's have agreed that we really need to get this story underway so there is going to be an almost 50 year gap between the last chapter and this one. We thought we'd let you know that it was time for us to change it up and get onto the story proper.
I'm so sorry this has taken so long but after the death of my mum I simply had no will to do anything let alone write.
Thank you to all those who reviewed and sent your condolences to me, I really appreciate it. It hasn't been easy going since the passing of my mum and things have been quite difficult sorting out her estate so I thank all of you for your patience.
We hope you enjoy this ninth instalment of Twisted Paths.

{Time skip: 47 years}
Sakura was out practicing her archery with Haldir, working her bow with her precision being matched by none other not even that of Legolas Greenleaf. Haldir stood back to watch Sakura work as she set aside her bow and removed a blow dart pipe and a box of thin darts with coloured tips from a pouch at her waist. These were a gift from Elladan after her last stay in Rivendell the product of speaking to him about a less conventional means of making artwork.
Haldir wasn't quite sure what she was about to do but was poised to watch her work anyway. Sakura made note of where which colours were in the box before she with her Elvish quickness blew the darts in quick succession while moving the blow pipe just a fraction of an inch at a time until she had exhausted many breaths and formed a pattern in the small hanging target she'd set up for herself.
Sakura packed away the half empty hinged box and closed the extendable length of the pipe before stashing it back in her pouch as Haldir went to check out her little makeshift target. Peering closely at it Haldir realised that the end of the darts made up the shape of the hanging yellow flower clusters of the Lauriquë tree.
"Wow, you have quite some talent there Lasdithen*(little leaf) and a really sharp eye." Haldir remarked to her over his shoulder.
"Thanks, painting and sewing just weren't quite doing it for me. I did ask Elladan for something a little less provincial and he definitely lived up to my expectations. I can't wait to try making something else." Sakura had sidled up next to Haldir and was inspecting her handiwork. After looking it over with a trained eye she reached up and detached it from the rope, leaving it there for further use later on.
"Do you think Ada would enjoy my work?" Sakura asked out of curiosity as she set the artwork next to her small pack which had held their lunch on the way to the practice grounds.
"Of course he would, I think he would really love it simply because it's something so unusual and so very… You." Haldir's response was exactly what she wanted to hear and she knew he wouldn't tell her so just to placate her either.
"I might give it to him later this evening once we've gotten back." Sakura declared as she moved off to the archery range to pull her arrows out of the target she'd been using.
"Excuse me Marchwarden, My Lady Sakura. I have a missive here for you from the Prince Greenleaf of Mirkwood." Idhri was once again the bearer of this news and Sakura almost squealed in her excitement. It had been almost six seven-day since she'd sent her letter to Legolas and she was so glad to be hearing back from him.
"Oh Idhri, it feels like I've been waiting a lifetime. Hannon le!* (Thank you!)" Sakura actually ran up and hugged the other Elleth*(female elf) before accepting the letter from her. Idhri left the training grounds looking slightly uncomfortable and Haldir watched Sakura turning the letter over to look for the Prince's seal, finding it there satisfied her curiosity for the time being.
"Perhaps we should get back?" Haldir suggested.
"Definitely!" Sakura agreed emphatically as she collected her gear and slung the straps over her shoulder. She stooped and picked up her blow dart artwork before she and Haldir ambled back towards Caras Galadhon.
Sakura couldn't stop looking at the letter in her right hand, she was so eager to read it and find out what Legolas had to say in response to her last letter.
It didn't take long to get back to the centre of Lórien and Sakura was so distracted by her thoughts she almost didn't hear Haldir bid her farewell.
"Sakura, did you hear me?" Haldir's tone was just ever so slightly annoyed as he got Sakura's attention.
"Oh… yeah. Sorry Gwador*(sworn brother), I'll see you later on then." She reached over and gave the Marchwarden a quick hug before she disappeared up the ladder to her talan.
Haldir sighed aloud; he worried about that Elleth sometimes.
Sakura shucked all her gear off as soon as she was in her talan and like a teenage girl she dived onto her bed stomach first and tore the letter open. It read:
Melamin* (my love),
I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you; things have been quite busy here. We have had more and more incursions in the Greenwood as the days go by and I fear the things that have taken up residence in Dol Goldur are simply biding their time to attack. But of course this is no way to start a letter, so again I apologise.
Apart from the aforementioned everything else had been as well as it can be here, Adar* (father) is as he always is. I feel the stirrings of excitement to hear that you would like to come visit me here and of course Adar has agreed that you may come to visit so of course I'm very much looking forward to seeing you again.
In the wake of your letter there is something I would like to ask your opinion on, my suggestion is this: How would you feel about becoming betrothed to me?
Sakura just about dropped the letter being startled as she was by Legolas's proposition. Betrothed? To the prince of Mirkwood? Of all the things she expected from his letter, this was the farthest thing from her mind.
She continued reading, his question lingering in the back of her mind as she went.
Surprisingly this suggestion has come from my Adar and I agree with him that it would be a very smart engagement.
It comes as no surprise to me and hopefully not to you about how in love we are with all of the time that we have spent together and the countless number of missives we've written to keep in contact spanning the last forty seven years.
I certainly hope you feel as I do but I will leave this decision in your very capable hands.
I don't have much else to add here but I look forward to seeing you soon.
Tenna'ento lye omenta* (until next we meet),
Your Lasvell*(strong leaf).
Sakura sighed as she rolled onto her back and pressed the letter to her chest over her heart, unbelieving that of all the Elleth he could chosen from he had asked for her hand, how romantic. She sighed again, who was she going to tell first? The answer sprung to the forefront of her mind in an instant.
Her Naneth* (mother) and Adar* (father) should be the first to know and then she would find Haldir and tell him and ask what his opinion might be on the subject.
Sakura stood to her feet and with the letter in hand she made her way down the ladder leading to her space, she was halfway to the stairs leading up to her parent's chamber when she had second thoughts. Instead, she turned on her heel and decided to seek out Haldir.
She headed in a westerly direction, vaguely remembering that to be the direction in which Haldir had gone after they'd said goodbye earlier on. She asked two separate elves if they'd seen him go past and the second pointed towards an area where there was a small stream; Sakura thanked them and headed in the direction offered.
It wasn't long before she came upon the stream to find Haldir with his shirt off, bathing.
"Haldir!" Sakura called out to the Ellon*(male elf) but politely averted her eyes.
"Ah, Sakura." Haldir responded to Sakura's call and replaced his tunic over damp skin, having washed away the sweat of an afternoons training session with her.
"Are you decent?" Sakura asked her eyes still averted as she clutched Legolas's letter tightly in her hand.
"I am you can approach safely." Haldir wore a small smirk of satisfaction as Sakura looked up and walked over to him, she then presented him with the letter.
"Could you do me a favour and read this?" Sakura asked, her voice wavering with apprehension.
"Isn't this is the letter you received this afternoon f-" Haldir was about to ask.
"From Legolas, yes it is. Please read it." Sakura cut him off mid sentence and instead of asking she firmly stated that he read it.
She gave him the time he needed and watched as his fingers near crumpled the paper at the edge in his surprise as he got to the part about betrothal. Sakura let him continue and waited a moment for him to finish.
"Sakura, this is wonderful news!" Haldir looked up at her with a smile on his face and in his voice. He stood up and grabbed her in his arms, jubilant as he swung her around. Sakura was glad that he shared her joy, she was glad that he approved and by his actions it was obvious that he did.
"Haldir, I still have to tell my parents." Sakura voice was quiet as she spoke. Haldir set her down and grabbed her gently by the shoulders, a reassuring smile on his face.
"Sakura, I would like to explain something to you if you wouldn't mind." He gestured she take a seat on the boulder he'd only just been sat on himself. Giving her back the letter to hold on to he knelt in front of her and took her hand.
"When elves marry, we do it out of love. There are no arranged marriages in our culture, we have the right to choose our own life partners and have been doing so for many millennia." Haldir took a small breath.
"You do not need your Naneth or Adar's permission to marry Legolas, if it is of your own choosing. If you do love him as he has clearly stated in his letter that he loves you, then my suggestion to you is that you take him up on his offer of betrothal if that's what will make you happy." Haldir's words brought Sakura the comfort she had sought and she nodded her head along with what he had said.
"Will you come with me?" Sakura asked of him, squeezing the hand he'd given her to hold gently.
"I know that this is a big step for you Lasdithen* (little leaf) and it can be scary but this is something you need to do on your own. If you do need to talk afterwards I'll be on patrol at the border, don't hesitate to come find me. Alright?" Haldir gave her hand a comforting squeeze with his own before he stood and brought her up with him.
Sakura nodded and hugged him tightly around the waist, with one gentler squeeze she flitted away to her parent's talan.
LegoXSaku
Sakura had just finished climbing the stairs to her parent's flet when she bumped into Rúmil, almost losing her balance and tumbling back down the stairs from where she'd come. Rúmil had quickly grabbed her by the upper arms to save her from such a fate.
"Thanks." Sakura was a little breathless from fright, experiencing that gut feeling you get when missing a step on the way down.
"No problem, I'll see you later on." Rúmil gave her a bright smile and turning her so she was side on, he headed on down the stairs. Sakura watched him go before she turned and entered the Lord and Lady's talan, finding them both waiting there for her.
"Naneth, Adar." Sakura dipped her head a fraction as she greeted her parents and they did the same out of respect to her.
"I have something here that I would like the both of you to read, if you wouldn't mind." Sakura made the request as she approached the raised dais.
"Of course we wouldn't, saes* (please)." Celeborn presented his hand and Sakura passed over Legolas's letter to him sitting side on, on the edge of the dais as she waited for both her parents to read the missive.
"Ah, I see. Your thoughts on this matter Aewithen* (little bird)?" It was Galadriel who asked the most important question.
"I would... like to accept his proposal." Sakura's voice was quiet within their chambers.
"Wonderful, but I confess Sakura with all the time the two of you have spent together and the visiting to Eryn Lasgalen and stops on your way home from Imladris we were truly wondering when the two of you would come around to this conclusion." Galadriel's voice held a note of playfulness as she spoke.
"Really Naneth? You never even made so much as a hint about it though." Sakura was slightly confused by that.
"Well dear Lasdithen* (little leaf), we didn't say anything because we knew you two would eventually come around to it on your own. These things are better to progress naturally than to be pushed before they are ready." No truer words of wisdom were spoken by none other than Celeborn.
"So what does a betrothal here entail?" Sakura asked, knowing the information about these types of things was paramount.
"Well essentially the two willing parties agree to be betrothed, you will exchange silver rings which you will wear on your index finger for a year to make sure that the two parties are meant to marry and there is to be a feast held when you are agreed to be betrothed which both families must attend." Galadriel explained this in detail so that Sakura would understand their customs regarding her upcoming betrothal.
"I see, so if the families are to be there for a betrothal feast then both you and Adar will have to travel with me to Mirkwood?" Sakura asked, figuring out the details in her head.
"No, unfortunately it cannot be done this way Sakura. We will have to forgo the feast as the unrest in Middle Earth is close to reaching its peak. One of us can go with you to Mirkwood but only one." Galadriel spoke again, Celeborn watching on as his wife and daughter conversed.
"Okay, so would you come with me Naneth? Your blessing would mean a great deal to me." Sakura looked up from her place seated on the dais, her expression earnest as she asked Galadriel to attend.
"Of course I will Aewithen, of course." Galadriel stood as she agreed and Sakura rose to her feet to hug her tightly. Celeborn smiled at Sakura and rose to join the hug as well, his arms wrapped tightly around both women.
"I'm so proud of you Sakura; you've adjusted to our world and customs with such fervour, I'm happy you've found love." This was said by Galadriel as they all separated.
"So when shall we leave Naneth?" Sakura was eager to be on her way and her parent's could see it in her face.
"Two days from now, that gives us time to pack clothes and provisions. You need to remember to pack your things for Imladris as well; you'll be heading on from Galen after we stop in." Galadriel reminded Sakura of her upcoming trip to Rivendell as well and Sakura's excitement rose a notch knowing she would be seeing her family and her home away from home from over the years.
"Yes Naneth, Adar, I remember. I suppose I best go let the brothers know they're on guard duty?" Sakura asked her last question, dancing on her toes showing her want to leave already.
"Yes Aewithen, please do." With that, Sakura gave them both big hugs, accepted the letter and all but danced out the door to inform the boys of their upcoming travels.

Sakura had been so excited about heading to Eryn Lasgalen* (Mirkwood) that she hadn't been able to sleep the night before, instead she'd read and drawn till it was almost time for them to leave. With her pack on her back, bow, quiver and long knives strapped to it Sakura was dancing on the predetermined spot they were all to meet.
It wasn't long before the others showed up, packed and ready to go. No one was surprised by Sakura's readiness to be off and they gave nods of greeting to each other. Celeborn had come down the stairs of Caras Galadhon to see both women off on their journey, first bidding goodbye to his wife and then his daughter.
"Adar, I have something for you." Sakura bent down and retrieved the small canvas that had been leaning against her leg, with gentle hands she passed it to Celeborn. He took it in a similar gentle fashion and looked it over with keen eyes.
"Ah Aewithen, this is wonderful. You have captured the essence of the Lauriquë perfectly." He placed his hand behind Sakura's neck and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"All of you take special care; these are dangerous times to be travelling." Celeborn's words held nothing but the ring of truth and with that he bid them all a fine farewell before retreating back up the stairs.
Rúmil, chipper as always was the first to start heading off closely followed by Sakura, Haldir and Galadriel with Orophin taking up the rear. It took the five of them just under an hour to reach the fields of the Maeras where upon their arrival there were already Maeras waiting for them.
Sabríel snorted in excitement and approached Sakura, tossing his head regally. Sakura placed her hand on his warm neck and stroked gently, whispering into his ear in a loving manner. How she had missed him and clearly he had missed her as well this made obvious as he nickered softly to her.
Galadriel watched over Sakura as she interacted with the Maeras, her love of all life showing as she noted Sakura treating Sabríel as her equal. Galadriel's own Maeras bumped her nose against her palm and Galadriel ran soft fingers down her snout as she spoke.
"Hello Théstri, it's good to see you again." Galadriel's words were soft spoken but Sakura caught them anyway, a small smile touching her lips.
"Alright everyone, mount up. We must be off." Galadriel's tone was authoritative and everyone followed suit, mounting their Maeras almost in unison before starting the half day trot to the Anduin.
Sakura spent the time on the way there chatting to Rúmil and Haldir who were riding side by side with her, Orophin had chosen to take up the rear being the least chatty of the three and more comfortable keeping an eye on everyone from his position.
Galadriel was also quiet, simply listening to the conversation that flowed between the three in front of her. Their conversation covered a wide array of topics from art, to weaponry, to battle tactics and more besides which helped half of the day pass quickly.
There was a small uproar as they came upon the way post at the crossing of the Anduin, the resident elves on rotation for that week called out as they all approached almost shouting out their greetings with large smiles on their faces.
Sakura was always aware that the elves out this way didn't get a lot of interaction on their rotation and when she was home she always made an effort to come out to the way post once a week to visit those attending at the time. She always brought one of the brothers with her and made a day of it, staying the night on and heading home the following afternoon.
It gave her something to do to break away from her studies and her parents actually encouraged her to do so, getting to know her people was part of her duties after all.
Sakura greeted the excited elves in a kind and polite fashion knowing these particular few, the crossing being one of their main duties and so they interacted with Sakura every few weeks like clockwork.
"Ulmer, Nael, Ruhk (Pronounced: Rook), lovely to see you as always." Sakura's smile took over her face as she dismounted and brushed fingertips with the three Ellon in front of her. This was the usual greeting when she came to the outpost though Galadriel was slightly confused by their candour towards Sakura.
"Mae Govannen*! (Well met)" They chorused, bowing in the usual greeting of respect to the Lady Galadriel who tipped her head slightly after she too had dismounted.
The three Ellon were quick to get to work transporting the Maeras and their riders over the river, Sakura being the last to cross. The three brothers and her Naneth watched on as Sakura interacted with the three Ellon, not being able to hear what they said over the rushing waters of the Anduin.
They brushed fingers again before Nael helped get Sabríel into the barge, Sakura climbing in after them and waving to Ruhk and Ulmer as Nael pulled her across the river taking but a few minutes to reach the opposite shore.
Sakura quickly unloaded Sabríel and with a goodbye they all mounted up again and were headed to Mirkwood.

{Time skip: 2 ½ weeks}
Sakura, Galadriel and the three brothers couldn't have been more than a half day out when an escort of Mirkwood elves approached them, obviously to lead them on the right path to the Elvenkings halls.
Haldir, Rúmil and Sakura recognised most of the escort having been in their company several times before. Everyone was quite chatty, catching up on goings on, their undertakings and the state of things in their neighbouring realm.
Most replies were morose; things in the Mirkwood had taken on a darker tone that's why they had met with the travelling party so far out explained Mirin, one of Elleth who was a part of their escort. Sakura and Haldir nodded solemnly having heard similar things in the letters from their friends.
Their estimation of half a day had almost been right, by the time they had arrived at the Elvenkings halls the sun was almost set leaving the forest in the hushed silence of twilight. Everyone dismounted their Maeras letting them wander off to find food and shelter as they continued through the tall stone hewn double door entry of Thranduil's kingdom, hearing them draw to behind them with an echoing 'bang'.
The Elvenkings halls were amidst eternal twilight and they followed the path lit by bright lanterns every few feet, the darkness wasn't much of a problem to the elves in any case with their keen sight they didn't need much light to see where they were headed.
They took the long meandering path to the two sets of stairs leading up to King Thranduil's dais, their escort had departed at the head of the path leading inwards so it was Sakura, Galadriel and the three brothers who approached Thranduil's throne.
"Lady Galadriel and Lady Sakura, it is lovely to see the both of you." This came from Thranduil who stepped down from his throne to greet both women properly with a bow and a twist of his hand. His guests replied in the same fashion before they all stood to their original positions.
"Agreed, it is wonderful to see you as well after so long Lord Thranduil." This was Sakura's polite reply to which Galadriel agreed with a small nod.
"I figured after Legolas's proposition that it wouldn't be long before you would show up Sakura but may I inquire as to why you are here Lady Galadriel?" Thranduil asked ever so politely.
"I am here at Sakura's request; she has asked that I grant my blessing over Legolas's and her union." Galadriel as always got straight to the point receiving a nod of understanding from Thranduil.
"I see, well Legolas is currently out hunting but I expect him back early tomorrow. You are most welcome to stay as my guests until he returns. We will be supping shortly, please meet me in the dining hall once you have settled yourselves. " Thranduil extended his hospitality to Galadriel, Sakura and the three brothers, clicking his fingers to summon none other than Aryn.
"If you would follow me, I will show you to your rooms." Aryn was all politeness as he walked away, expecting them all to follow which they did with quick nods to Thranduil as he settled back on his throne.
It didn't take long to arrive at their quarters, Sakura and Haldir were shown to the same ones they had stayed at previously whilst Galadriel, Rúmil and Orophin were shown the rooms next door to theirs. They parted ways for the short amount of time it took to get themselves settled, regrouping outside their rooms afterwards and heading on to the dining area lead by Sakura and Haldir.
They entered the dining area to find Thranduil already seated with the chair to his left empty due to Legolas's absence. Everyone took their allotted seats leaving Legolas's empty and Thranduil clicked his fingers again this time summoning servers with platters of fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, bread, carafe's of wine, Miruvóre and some fish for those not adverse to eating flesh.
After the servers departed Thranduil indicated that everyone should dig in and no one hesitated at that. The meal was surprisingly quiet as everyone ate their fill, lembas being the only thing they had to eat for the last few days.
The meal lasted a good long while and after the plates and platters were all cleared away Thranduil ordered that a carafe of one of his good wines were brought up from the cellar along with fresh goblets for everyone.
Once the wine was brought and poured conversation flowed once more, Thranduil and Galadriel had their own things to discuss so Sakura and the three brothers conversed between themselves with even Orophin finding himself involved. They all chatted late into the evening before Thranduil bid them all a good night and departed, leaving them to make their way back to their shared rooms.
They all turned in for the night, Sakura and Galadriel sharing a small hug before they went their separate ways. Inside the apartments Sakura leaned up and gave Haldir a quick kiss on the cheek before they too went their own ways to bed.
Sakura was quick to strip off her long dress and remove a short sleeved tunic from the armoire in her room, slipping it on so it dropped down to her knees the slits in the sides stopping an inch before the line of her underwear.
She quickly undid the braids in her hair and stooping to grab her bag she brought out her comb and brushed out her long locks before loosely braiding it and tying it securely with a ribbon.
Sakura sighed contentedly as she slid into the left hand side of the soft bed; the wine had made her mind a little fuzzy and had left a warm fire burning in the pit of her stomach, taking the edge off the slight chill in her room as she drifted off.
LegoXSaku
Legolas was loping through the forest, the chill in the air making the tips of his ears and the end of his nose cool. He looked up through the branches overhead to see dark water laden clouds scudding across the sky, the air damp with the coming rain.
Legolas knew he wasn't far from home but as he'd predicted a light rain started to fall, misting in his hair and forming droplets on his face that slid down like icy fingers into his shirt collar.
He sighed under his breath thinking that the rain could have held off a mere ten minutes more, then at least he would have arrived home dry. It came as no surprise to him when a large clap of thunder sounded off to the east over the protruding edge of Mirkwood; it was going to be one hellish storm that night.
As he got closer to the Elvenkings halls the rain started in heavier, falling in a curtain that would have blinded any other hunter. Even with the downpour Legolas could still clearly see where he was going, avoiding kicking rocks protruding from the ground and sunken ditches that liked to twist unsuspecting ankles.
Legolas finally made it back to the Elvenkings halls, drenched to the bone and cursing the weather. He nodded to the two guards who were standing just inside the side door as he passed, one of the guards calling his name from behind to which he stopped and turned to listen.
"I just thought you should know that Lady Galadriel and her kin arrived earlier this evening." The words were quiet in the hall and Legolas nodded his head in thanks before he continued on, his tunic dripping water from the hem as he walked down to his quarters to towel off and change into dry clothes.
Thinking about Galadriel being here it would mean that Sakura was here as well and that thought brought a smile to his face as he vigorously rubbed his skin with a towel. Legolas made a decision after some thinking and getting changed into dry clothes he slipped on a pair of soft boots and left his quarters, wandering down the quiet halls and passing a few guards before he arrived at his destination.
He pressed down the handle and he opened the door quietly before stepping through, shutting it almost silently behind him. He started in surprise as he turned to find a silent Haldir standing behind him.
"Haldir." Legolas spoke the other Ellon's name, his voice quiet in the space of the lounge.
Haldir didn't say anything; he just nodded to Legolas before he retreated back to his room. Legolas crossed the expanse of the lounge and as he opened Sakura's door there was another loud clap of thunder, closer this time by the sound of it.
He shut the door quietly and moved over to the left side of Sakura's large bed, he slipped his boots before pulling the covers back and sliding in under them… only to come up short as something cold and sharp jabbed into the side of his neck.
"Name and purpose." These were the few words Sakura spoke in the still dark of her room, digging the blade in just so when an answer wasn't forthcoming.
"It's just me Sakura." Legolas's response came out in a quiet rush of breath and he sighed in relief as Sakura withdrew her blade at his response.
"Legolas, I thought you were out hunting? Your Adar* (father) said you wouldn't be back till morning." Sakura's voice was hushed as she spoke to him, confusion inflecting it.
"I wasn't supposed to back till morning but things moved along quite quickly so I came back sooner than I intended. Why? Are you not happy that I am here?" Legolas sounded slightly indignant as he moved to slide out of Sakura's bed.
Sakura wrapped her hand around his lithely muscled bicep, stopping his movement as she slid a little closer to him. Her warmth bled through the cloth of the tunic she was wearing as it brushed softly across his knuckles, he turned to her in the dark and reached for where he knew her face would be.
Grasping the sides gently he leaned in and pressed supple lips against Sakura's, the kiss deepening as Sakura's hands clasped his own where they rested on her face. Sakura moaned low in her throat as she kissed Legolas back with fervour, oh how she had missed him. Their closeness was something that no number of letters could make up for.
After a few moments like that they separated, drawing in a deep lungful of air each. Sakura then drew him by hand, further into her bed before they both lay down.
"You're cold… Did you get caught out in the storm?" Sakura asked of him as she laid her head and hand against his chest as he lay back against the pillows, her leg twining with his until they were both comfortable.
"Yes I did, it started coming down as I was almost home." Legolas's response was punctuated by another loud clap of thunder that sounded as if it was right overhead.
"Oh dear, well at least you can get warm now." Sakura moved and pulled up the blankets with her left hand before she snuggled deeper into Legolas's chest.
Legolas ran his hand over Sakura's long silky tresses as he heard her breathing slow and even out, indicating that she had slipped back into the land of dreams. He was content to simply hold her until he dipped into a meditative state, happy to be with Sakura again.
LegoXSaku
The following morning Sakura awoke to Legolas's fingers gently caressing the planes of her face and she smiled as she arched into him, stretching out her sleepy muscles.
"Good morning." Sakura's sleepy smile still adorned her lips as she looked up into Legolas's face and he too smiled down at her as he wished her a good morning also.
There was a gentle knock at her door before she heard Haldir speak.
"Laschal* (Little leaf), breakfast will be served shortly. I suggest you get up and organised." She heard Haldir's steps quieten as he walked away from her door.
"I suppose we should probably get up then." This suggestion came from Legolas to which Sakura nodded and they both departed the warm confines of her bed. He came around to her side of the bed and hugged Sakura from behind.
"I have to go to my quarters and get changed but I'll see you for breakfast." Legolas's breath was warm against her ear as he spoke after which he pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek and departed, leaving Sakura to her own devices.
Sakura opened the armoire to root through and find something suitable to wear according to the still stormy weather, notable by the small clap of thunder that rumbled overhead. She came across a deep mulberry coloured heavy skirted flax gown, black bordering the hem, sleeves and rounded neck.
The material felt warm as Sakura rubbed it lovingly against her cheek, she felt the fabric and the colour were perfect for a day such as this one and so discarding her slept in tunic she donned the dress. Sakura pulled her hair from the collar before she knelt by her bed and pulled her pack out from under it.
Opening the top Sakura didn't have to root through the contents to find her comb seeing as it was on the top from the night before, removing it she was quick in combing out her long tresses. It didn't take much effort now as Sakura usually kept her hair braided loosely when she went to bed and the night previous was no exception, keeping it up that way resulted in less knots the following morning.
Sakura decided to leave her hair loose for today, not even bothering with her warrior braids. A quick rap at her door as she was sitting on the edge of her bed pulling on her soft deerskin boots told her it was time to go, Sakura stood and brushed her hands down the front of her dress smoothing out a few wrinkles before she stepped out into the lounge.
Haldir smiled gently seeing Sakura as she came through her bedroom door, his eye's moving up and down her attire.
"You look wonderful Sakura, that colour becomes you." Sakura blushed slightly but thanked Haldir all the same, even doing a little twirl to show off the dress.
"Come on, we should go or we'll be late." Sakura pulled open the door and stepped out into the hall right into a passing Rúmil who caught her about the shoulders to stop her from tumbling to the floor.
"Thanks!" Sakura gasped.
"No problem." Rúmil gave Sakura a beatific smile as he released her shoulders, giving the one closest to him a gentle pat before they all continued on to the dining hall for breakfast.
When they arrived they found Thranduil at the head of the table and the table already set with food for breakfast. As they all ambled in Legolas was bringing up the rear, freshly dressed and hair once again neatly pulled back.
Everyone filed into their seats and the meal was quickly started, everyone helping themselves to bread and jam, fruit and different types of juice. Sakura had seated herself between Legolas and Haldir with Orophin and Rúmil seated across from them and Galadriel to Thranduil's right hand.
"Did you know he came in this morning?" Sakura's question to Haldir was in undertone so nobody but he heard it.
"Yes I did, I intercepted him as he came in thinking he was someone else." Haldir also spoke in undertone, realising that Sakura obviously didn't want the conversation heard.
"You intercepted him but you still let him in?" Sakura was incredulous.
"I didn't think that you would mind if I did." Haldir was genuinely confused as to why Sakura would be annoyed by that, knowing how much the two cared for each other.
"I didn't know he was home, I didn't know he would come climbing into my bed in the middle of the night. He was a damn sight lucky I didn't dig my knife in any further!" Sakura's voice had risen to a furious whisper and garnered the attention and eyes of the other elves present.
Haldir noticed their attentions and looked Sakura in the eye as he shook his head, clearly signalling that this was not the time nor place to be having their conversation.
Sakura turned back to her bread and jam, contrite and insistent about keeping her eyes on her meal taking small sips of juice between bites of food.
Everyone finished their meal at about the same time and they watched as the people serving came and cleared away their plates and the breakfast platters in a timely fashion. They brought out a fresh carafe of orange juice and a carafe of cold water before they cleared out as well.
"So now I feel it's time to get to the matter at hand, Lady Galadriel if you would." Thranduil gestured for Galadriel to take the floor and so she stood up from her chair and took a steadying breath.
"We know why Sakura and I have come to your fair realm, Sakura has asked my attendance to give mine and Lord Celeborn's blessing. Sakura, if you will." Galadriel handed the floor to Sakura who didn't stand; she simply turned to face Legolas and took his hand up in her own.
"The reason why I have asked my Naneth to attend was that I wished her to grant my parents blessing on us." Sakura's words came out a little shaky as she spoke.
"Their blessing on what exactly?" Legolas was sure he knew but he had to ask anyway.
"I wish to accept your proposal." Sakura spoke with an elated smile plastered on her lips.
Legolas's face broke into a mask of pure joy as he stood and embraced Sakura tightly, arms around her waist he lifted her feet clear of the floor as their small group clapped to show their joy and support. There was a look of shock to Rúmil's face and Orophin was simply passive, neither having known why it was exactly they were travelling to Eryn Lasgalen.
"Congratulations, I'm happy for the both of you." These were Thranduil's words as he stood there at the head of the table. He walked around and laid a hand on both their shoulders; a small smile touched his lips as he gently squeezed both shoulders and nodded to his son showing how proud he was the he'd chosen someone like Sakura who he knew was wise beyond her years.
He never would have made the suggestion if he didn't think they were made for each other.
There were a few hugs going around as Haldir then Galadriel and lastly Rúmil hugged Sakura in congratulations, Rúmil's mind was elsewhere however and so he was a little distracted as he hugged Sakura.
"Are you alright Rúmil?" Sakura asked as she pulled back from the embrace.
"Huh… Yes, I'm fine." Rúmil gave her a small smile before he turned away and left the dining hall after Orophin.
Sakura twisted her lips, worrying about Rúmil's reaction but was brought back from that train of thought by Legolas's hand upon her shoulder.
"Is everything okay?" His voice was a quiet breath by her ear, Sakura simply nodded instead of answering out loud as she placed her hand atop his. Galadriel walked up to Sakura after a quiet conversation with Thranduil and reached out to embrace her in a very motherly hug.
"I'm so happy for you and I couldn't be prouder Sakura." With these loving words Galadriel bestowed a kiss on Sakura's right cheek before gathering her skirts and leaving the dining hall after Thranduil.
The dining hall was now empty apart from Sakura and Legolas and they were quiet for a time before Sakura turned and threw her arms about Legolas's neck, holding tight as he wrapped his arms around her waist. There they stood for a long while just basking in the warmth of each other and the fact that they really were to be married.
It was a few long moments before they separated and Sakura had tears in her eyes, she was just so happy. Legolas cradled her face in his hands and wiped away her tears with a small smile that echoed her own.
Sakura leaned up on her toes and pressed a soft demure kiss against Legolas's lips to which he responded in kind, hands still grasping Sakura's face with his thumbs caressing her cheeks. Sakura parted from him with a delicate sigh, her closed lashes fluttering slightly against her cheeks as Legolas's thumbs continued in their movement across her skin.
When Sakura opened her eyes Legolas noticed they'd darkened to a wonderful deep emerald green, her love for him blazed openly on her face and he didn't think he could be happier than he was at that moment.
"As wonderful as this has been Melethen* (my love), I have to prepare to travel again." Sakura felt a pang of anguish having only just arrived but she knew things were the way they were for a reason and she should uphold her parent's wishes because they weren't in any way unreasonable.
"Iston hen, Melamin* (I know this, my love). I feel it won't be long before we are reunited so there is no need to despair, go see to your things and I'll be with you shortly." Legolas pressed a chaste kiss to her cheek and went on his way to oversee some other things on his agenda.
Sakura stood in the empty dining room for a moment reflecting back to how they couldn't stand each other when they first met and it made her laugh out loud, her laugh echoing in the empty chamber as she pondered on the fact that they were now engaged. With a smile curving her lips Sakura danced back to her rooms with a light heart.
Upon entering she came upon Haldir with his hand resting on the slumped shoulder of Rúmil and confusion coloured her joy at that moment.
"Rúmil, whatever is the matter?" Sakura quickly approached the pair, worry inflecting her tone as she asked her question.
"Don't worry about it, it's nothing." Came Rúmil's offhand reply.
"Clearly it's more than nothing or you wouldn't be standing here looking like someone kicked your puppy." Sakura's tone was authoritative and brokered no argument.
"He is upset because you did not think to tell him about your engagement before we arrived. From what I can tell he feels like you don't trust him, which he thinks is why you didn't tell him about it." Haldir's answer was forthcoming, wanting to resolve this minor dispute before they separated ways. Anger usually fostered resentment after all and in the end that could make things strained between them.
"Rúmil, I didn't tell you because I was too busy anticipating the upcoming travels and the chance to say yes to Legolas's proposal. What I did wasn't intended or malicious, it just happened." Sakura tried to placate Rúmil with her explanation.
"You told Haldir before we started our journey, is my opinion not important to you?" Rúmil seemed to be pouting as he questioned her. Sakura stepped forward and lay her hand upon his shoulder where Haldir's had been just a moment ago.
"Rúmil, of course your opinion matters to me but I'd already spoken of accepting the proposal to my parents after I spoke to Haldir. All other thoughts about it dissipated once I'd made up my mind and I didn't think to ask you what your opinion was. You however are being unreasonable and I shouldn't have to apologise for wanting something or for making up my mind about it without your input. I'm old enough and wise enough to make my own decisions." Without another word Sakura dropped her hand, turned on her heel and disappeared into her rooms to pack up the few things she'd taken out of her bag and change her garb to one more suited for travelling.
"She's right Rúmil, one of the reasons she came to me is because she wasn't sure about what accepting such a proposal could mean for her and she wanted advice in that regard. I believe in her heart she'd already made her choice and the fact that you're angry she didn't consult you is your shortcoming, not hers. Now go pack, we'll be leaving shortly." Haldir was stern as he reprimanded his younger brother and he too shut himself in his rooms to finish packing.
Rúmil stood there for a moment feeling small at his brother's sharp words, with the admonishment he decided then and there to let the matter go knowing that his brother was mostly right. Shaking his head he shuffled next door to get himself organised to meet their party at the entrance to the Elvenkings halls.
LegoXSaku
Everyone stood together in the large gaping stone maw that was the gate to the Elvenkings halls, Sakura was bidding Galadriel farewell while the brothers said goodbye to Legolas and thanked Thranduil for his hospitality. It was Sakura's turn to say goodbye to Legolas, he hugged her tightly and whispered in her ear that he'd see her soon before pressing a chaste kiss to her cheek being ever cordial in his father's presence.
Sakura bowed in respect as she thanked Thranduil for his hospitality before bidding goodbye to Rúmil and Orophin who were escorting Galadriel back to Lórien. Galadriel explained to Sakura the previous evening before bed that Haldir would be accompanying her to Imladris (Rivendell) before he too would head home.
"Well, we must be on our way. Until we meet again, King Thranduil." Galadriel tilted her head regally before she turned in a whirl of pale skirts and glided across the bridge to reach the Maeras. With one last look at Legolas and a respectful nod to Thranduil, Sakura turned and followed Galadriel.
Sakura and Galadriel mounted up side by side before looking over at each other, Galadriel reached out and Sakura took her hand giving it a healthy squeeze. With matching smiles they let go and parted ways through the dripping leaves, the rain having passed not long before. Sakura and Haldir headed to the East towards Imladris and Galadriel and the two younger brothers headed South back to Lothlórien.
Sakura's mood dimmed ever so slightly as they headed away from the Elvenkings halls but she had a feeling that it wouldn't be overly long before she saw Legolas again. Sakura's mood set the tone for the rest of their one and a half seven day travel, their moods subdued and the conversations few and far between though the silence was not uncomfortable between them, never that.
{Time skip: 1 and ½ weeks}
Their expected arrival in Imladris was tame, no big greeting party or banners and silver trumpets.
'Thank the Valar' Sakura thought to herself as they came upon Arwen waiting patiently for them at the opposite end of the high pass, drinking in the sunlight from the noonday sun dazzling overhead. She greeted them both with a soft smile and a barely there tilt of her head, turning and leading them down the path to the last homely house.
Sakura breathed in the perfumed air, there was nowhere else in Middle Earth that smelled as Imladris did, or at least no where she had been as of yet. It brought a beatific smile to her face simply to be back, how she'd missed it and the elves here that were far livelier than those back home.
It didn't take long for them to make their way down from the pass and they followed around to take in the view of the forest and the falls, dismounting and collecting their gear before releasing the Maeras from their duties. Haldir would stay the week and restock his supplies before leaving the following week.
They separated ways and Sakura continued to follow Arwen who she knew was taking her to see her Adar (Father). They found him seated in his private garden with a slim leather bound book in hand, engrossed in whatever it is he was reading.
"Ada (Daddy), Sakura is here." Arwen's voice was small in the quiet of the garden knowing she needn't raise it to be heard. Elrond looked up from his book, his grey eyes focussing on the two of them as a smile touched his lips.
"Aewithen* (little bird) how wonderful it is to have you with us again. Arwen has been looking forward to your arrival for some time as have the rest of us. I trust your travel was unheeded?" Elrond's voice was not much louder than Arwen's had been but it echoed in the courtyard as he spoke, amplifying the sound.
"Yes, our trip was fairly pleasant thank you Lord Elrond. I'm looking forward to my stay here, it's been far too long." A small smile played on Sakura's lips as well; her delight at being back was evident to those present.
"I'm rather sure that the boys are looking forward to having you here as well, sadly Estel has yet to return." A minute frown touched the corners of his mouth as he let that information slip.
Sakura could tell being as good at reading people as she was and the minute changes in their expressions that although he wasn't really letting on, Aragorn's absence was bothering him.
"Yes, I've been looking forward to seeing you all as well. It's unfortunate that Aragorn isn't here but these things do happen, let us hope we'll see him again soon." Sakura gave Elrond a heart warming smile as she stepped forward to place her hand upon his shoulder in a gesture of comfort, Elrond's hand covered hers and he gave it a gentle squeeze as he smiled up at her.
"Come, we are about to partake in the midday repast." Elrond stood as Sakura stepped back to allow him room, Arwen took up a place by her father's side sliding her hand into the crook of his elbow as they advanced to the dining hall.
They traded anecdotes and Sakura regaled them with the goings on in Lórien as they entered the dining hall, Sakura stopped a moment by the entrance to leave her pack and weapons by the door before taking a seat to Elrond's left while Arwen took the seat to his right.
There they continued chatting as they waited on the twins and Haldir to arrive for lunch. As the boys were arriving food was also delivered to the table, fresh bread, jams, butter, fresh greens, along with a steaming tureen of fresh vegetable soup and a small platter of fish specially prepared for Sakura. Sakura had never been able to discount meat from her diet, the extra protein and vitamins gained helping to keep her abilities in top shape and those close to her understood not judging her for her choice.
Once everyone was seated they all dug in, filling their plates with the fresh food laid before them meanwhile discussion was free flowing. Sakura on every visit to Rivendell noticed the difference in the atmosphere around the dining table and just in general compared to Mirkwood, things had relaxed between her, Legolas and King Thranduil for sure but it was never the same as being here.
It reminded her of home and the gatherings of the rookie nine, their teachers and other close friends, like one big happy family. It brought a sudden smile to her face; she counted those closest to her here as family and she knew they believed the same of her.
Sakura was bought out of her happy musings having heard her name called, not knowing it was the second time it had been said.
"Huh?" Was her gracious response as she turned to the person beside her.
"I said, is there anything you wanted to do this afternoon Sakura?" It was Elladan who had asked the question.
"Oh! Actually I was hoping that we could catch up this afternoon, there's something I'd like to run by you." Sakura's eyes sparkled as she smiled at him.
"Sure, sounds like fun to me." Elladan's smile was all mischief as they turned back to eating their lunch.
Elrohir was immersed in conversation with Haldir and Arwen gave Sakura a soft smile across the table before she engaged Elrond in a conversation about poetry. Elladan was busy giving his two cents in with his brother's conversation so Sakura continued to eat and listen in to Arwen and Elrond.
It wasn't long before lunch was over and the plates and glasses were cleared away, everyone was still engrossed in their conversations as juice and sweet rolls were brought out. Everyone took a roll and the jugs of juice one apple, one orange were passed around.
Sakura poured herself a half glass of orange juice and nibbled the end of her roll, she had eaten a fair bit of food for her lunch so she was quite full but it seemed rude to turn away such lovely food. It wasn't long before she put the roll back on the plate, maybe a third of the small sweet bread missing.
"Are you not hungry Sakura?" This came from Haldir, concern colouring his voice.
"I had a lot on my plate earlier, I'm afraid I filled myself up before we got to the sweets." Sakura let loose a lilting giggle, laughing at herself eliciting smiles from around the table. The chatter continued until everyone else had eaten their fill afterwards they all drifted off to separate activities for the afternoon, Sakura and Elladan retired to the smithy to have their discussion taking seats on the two stools there.
"So Sakura, what is it you want to talk to me about?" Elladan's demeanour was calm, attentive as he waited for Sakura to speak.
"Well I wanted to speak to you about an important matter but it's of the utmost importance that you keep it to yourself for the time being, is that clear?" Sakura's voice was hushed as she spoke, as if she was worried someone might be eavesdropping on their conversation.
"Of course, I stand by my word." Elladan clapped a fist to his chest as he spoke the honest truth, promising to keep Sakura's secret whatever it may be.
"I would be honoured if you would forge two silver rings for myself and another." Sakura watched with a sharp eye, waiting for Elladan's reaction.
"I would be delighted to Sakura, who is the lucky Ellon (Male elf) if I may ask?" A large smile had spread its way across Elladan's face, his excitement and elation for her situation were palpable.
"As much as I would love to tell you 'adan, I think it would be best to keep it to myself for the time being. I did bring the measurements with me so you can easily forge the rings too. They are however in my pack at the current time, I'll get them to you later on." Sakura's smile played about her lips, her excitement bubbling over.
Elladan searched her face, her eyes sparkling with mirth back at him and without warning he leaned over to give her a tight hug. Sakura was momentarily blindsided but hugged him back just as tight, after a few moments they separated with small smiles and stood to their feet.
"I have to go collect my things from the dining hall, I'll see you later on." With a small wave Sakura headed back to the dining hall leaving Elladan to himself. As Sakura wandered along she thought on the wedding bands, they were to be plain and Legolas's would be traditionally slightly wider than hers so they could tell which was which.
Sakura was wending her way back to the dining hall when she bumped into Athirys (Pronounced: A-tear-ris), she was normally puttering around the vast library being a scholar and a curator there. She was usually the first person Sakura would approach if she couldn't find a book on a certain subject or if she needed something translated.
"Athirys, how lovely to see you. How have you been?" Sakura's face bore a wide smile as she spoke politely to the other Elleth (Female Elf) to which she responded in kind.
"I've been very well thank you Sakura. How about yourself?" Athirys' smile was smaller but still tugged at the corners of her mouth, it reached her eyes which were almost the same colour as Sakura's.
"Yeah I'm doing pretty well myself, just got in from Mirkwood a little earlier. Are you just on your way to the midday meal now?" Sakura frowned, her lips turning down in worry.
"Yes I am, we just received a new shipment of books this morning. I was cataloguing them and got a bit carried away." Athirys gave a small lilting laugh at her own silliness.
"Oh I see, well I won't keep you. Enjoy your meal and I'm sure I'll see you later." Sakura gave an easy smile as she briefly dipped her head before they parted ways in opposite directions.
It didn't take her long to arrive back at the dining hall, entering through the propped open doors she located her bags a few inches to the right. She knelt down beside her bulging pack and undid the ties, flipping back the flap she started rooting around until her fingers brushed against parchment.
Grabbing the folded edge Sakura pulled it free of her clothing and other items, setting the small piece of parchment by her knee she rearranged her things so they all fit back into her pack before she tied the flap back down. Standing up with the parchment in hand Sakura shouldered her pack, long knives and her bow and quiver before starting off to her rooms.
Sakura took her time to get to her rooms, enjoying the quiet and peace that permeated the air. She took a deep breath, breathing in the many comingling scents of trees, flowers and the scent of clean water. Coming upon her door Sakura stopped in front of it and ran her fingers over the inlay of orchids before she opened the doors and stepped through.
She closed the door softly behind her and looked around, her rooms remained the same as always for which she was eternally grateful. She set her pack and other belongings down on her bed and walked through the airy peach curtains to the balcony. She walked to the balustrade and leaned her arms against the cool stone, looking out over the waterfall and the gently rippling waters below.
Sakura sighed to herself, thinking about her engagement once again. She was second guessing herself just a little… Was it really the right thing to do? She knew she loved Legolas and he'd made it clear that he loved her as well but she couldn't help wondering if the timing was wrong. She shook loose those dreary thoughts and put a smile on her face, of course it was right.
She walked back into the room and retrieved the parchment with the measurements on it, leaving her room she walked back down to the smithy knowing she'd find Elladan hard at work. Entering the smithy the heat from the forge hit Sakura full on, it was already a warm day out and it made her feel sorry for those who had to work in the smithy on days like today.
"Elladan!" Sakura called the Ellon's (Male Elf) name over the ringing strike of his hammer on the sword he was working on. Elladan stopped mid strike to look up, a smile brightening the grim concentration on his face.
"You're back!" Elladan turned to put the still glowing sword into the bucket of brine to cool off and put the metal cover over the forge before he approached Sakura, wiping his blackened long fingered hands on a damp rag that hung through his belt.
"I take it you've brought along those ring measurements you were telling me about earlier." Elladan's smile hiked up cheekily on one side and his eyes lit up with happiness.
"Of course, I did tell you I'd bring them by when I was all settled." Sakura's smile echoed his own, reaching her eyes her happiness shining through.
"I don't suppose you'll be telling me who it is just yet?" He asked out of curiosity and watched as Sakura shook her head in denial.
"No, not yet. You'll just have to wait like everyone else but here, these are the measurements." Sakura handed over the small folded parchment and Elladan opened it to have a look taking note of the sizing and the inscriptions.
"That's lovely Sakura, you're a very lucky Elleth and he is also a very lucky Ellon. I'm so very happy for you." He reached out and gave her a really tight hug to which she responded in kind, it lasted for a few moments before they separated.
"Thanks Elladan, I really appreciate that." Sakura couldn't seem to wipe the smile off her face and after bidding Elladan a good afternoon she made her way to the library to peruse the new arrivals with Athirys' help.
Some of the new books were history on the Ñoldor and the Númenórean's and something of particular interest to her, the Fall of Gondolin. Taking these few books Sakura found her afternoon and early evening preoccupied by her studies of the ancient races, bringing with her to supper the book on Númenórean history.
She was so absorbed in her book that she bumped right into Arwen and dropped the book on the floor.
"Oh, wow I'm so sorry Arwen. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." Sakura gave a little laugh as she bent to retrieve her book.
"It's no problem, I get pretty absorbed in my books as well though walking with your nose in one is generally not advised." Arwen laughed alongside Sakura as she shook her head at her actions.
"I agree but I was so deeply engrossed I didn't want to put the book down." Sakura explained as they walked into the already occupied dining hall.
"Ah, I see. That does happen, especially if the subject is really engaging. What are you reading about?" Arwen's interest was piqued as they sat next to each other at the dining table.
"I'm reading about the history of the Númenórean's and their travels across the sea, I've never been to the sea." Sakura's eyes sparkled with intelligence as she mentioned the subject of her interest.
"We don't normally visit the sea unless we are prepared to go across it." Elrond's interjection was sharp.
"Ada! (Daddy) A visit to the sea wouldn't be a bad thing, Sakura having been here so long and never having visited the sea is a bit of a letdown wouldn't you say?" Arwen's interjection was just as sharp.
"I do see your point but a visit to the sea at this moment would be unwise, there is far too much unrest in the land." Elrond was calm as he explained himself.
"I see Ada, we understand. It will have to be another time then." Arwen conceded and Sakura nodded along.
During their short conversation platters of fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, butter, cheese and a tureen of delicious smelling vegetable soup had been brought to the table alongside silver pitchers of water and wine both white and red.
Sakura set her book aside and joined into helping herself to food and drink, the conversation was lively and once Sakura had explained what she was reading everyone put in their own knowledge of the history of the N menór. Even Haldir had something to say on the subject.
Everyone took their turns discussing what they knew and Sakura had a myriad of questions for each person who spoke and everyone ate around talking and questions. By the end of that supper Sakura knew a lot more about the Númenórean's than she had read and she knew that some of the information she'd been given wouldn't be in the end of the historical records she was almost finished with.
They continued to chat for a half hour after supper was finished before one by one they drifted off to do other things. Sakura left the table with Arwen, Haldir stayed behind continuing his conversation with the twins.
Sakura and Arwen walked side by side in companionable silence just enjoying each other's company until they parted ways to their own rooms. Sakura entered hers and took up her place on her bed, laying on her stomach with her feet pointing towards the head of her bed.
There was a chest at the foot of her bed where she stored her pack and weapons when not in use, she'd stowed them there after her visit to the library. It currently held a candle holder with a thick candle which she lit with the flint from her pack as the darkness started to creep in.
Flipping through to the last few pages of text she read about the last nine ships of Númenór coming by sea escaping the flooding, led by Elendil with their ships landing in the North of Middle Earth where the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor were founded.
Another tome was needed to explain all that happened with the settlement of Anor and Gondor and everything thereafter. Sakura popped it on top of the first tome about the Ñoldor she had read earlier that afternoon and picked up the book about the Fall of Gondolin.
Sakura quickly became immersed and lost track of time, a few hours passed before there was a gentle knock at her door. Sakura left the thick tome open on her bed as she got up to open the door, pushing down on the handle and pulling it open revealed Haldir on the other side.
"Sakura, whatever is the matter?" Haldir's voice held a hint of concern as he spoke.
"What do you mean, I'm fine…?" Sakura was confused by Haldir's concern and flinched slightly as he reached forward and touched her cheek, bringing his hand away to reveal moisture on his fingertips.
"Oh! I'm reading about the Fall of Gondolin and the kin slaying…" Sakura's voice was low as she spoke and Haldir nodded in understanding.
"A sad tale to be sure, I just wanted to bid you a good night as it's getting late. Will you be alright?" Haldir was still quite concerned, Gondolin was a harrowing tale and he knew that it didn't end well.
"I should be fine, some of the acts depicted are just awful hence the tears. I didn't even realise I was crying." Sakura gave a watery giggle as she waved her hand in a dismissive gesture.
"Alright then," Haldir leaned in and gave her a comforting hug "Don't stay up too late."
"I make no promises, good night Haldir." Sakura hugged him back for a moment before retreating back into her bedroom and shutting the door as Haldir walked off down the hallway.
Crawling back onto her bed Sakura continued on from where she left off, reading well into the night.

A week in Rivendell quickly passed and soon Haldir was packed and ready to head home amid the next seven day. It was a small party bidding him a fine farewell and safe travels consisting of Sakura, Elrond, Arwen and the twins Elladan and Elrohir.
Everyone was cheerful as they watched Haldir depart, he gave Sakura a small wave and a smile before he galloped off on his way back to Lothlórien. Sakura knew that since he would be travelling on his own he would most likely make few stops on his way home to arrive quicker.
They walked back into Rivendell together and from there they separated, off to do their own things. When Sakura was in Rivendell reading tended to take up a lot of her time, she just couldn't get enough of the lore and history of Middle Earth whether it be about the Elves and their kin, the Dúnedain or the Dwarves though there were few books about them. Most of what she'd read pertained to a mountain kingdom called Erebor and a Dwarven expedition there some sixty years ago.
From what she'd read there were a lot of casualties including the burning of Dale and the great battle that took place right in front of the entrance to the mountain. Many lives were lost including the leader of the small troupe of thirteen that had travelled to claim back the mountain, one Thorin Oakenshield.
The calamity known as Smaug was slain with a black arrow by a man named Bard, the arrow piercing a loose scale in the armour on his belly he crashed down into the lake, dead.
There wasn't much more information than that, the Elves most obvious hatred of the Dwarves keeping the information in their libraries limited to a few great goings on where the Elves had been involved whether directly or indirectly.
Sakura had finished the very thick tome about the Fall of Gondolin only a day before, she'd had to take frequent breaks to ensure the horrific nature of the fall didn't overwhelm her.
Sakura was headed to the library to get the next book on the Ñoldor and the last tome about Anor and Gondor. She made her way in and as always Athirys was there to greet her, with a smile and a kind greeting.
"Hello Sakura, what can I help you with today?" Athirys' voice was always soft, like a gentle breeze that rustled through the leaves.
"I'm here to finish the history of Anor and Gondor and anything else you have about the Ñoldor." Sakura stated in a friendly tone as she handed back the last two tomes she had borrowed.
"Well we don't have anything left on the Ñoldor that you haven't already read. We have one small book about the ruling of Gondor you might like to read but there's no more information here on Anor, you read all that too." Athirys gave a lilting laugh at the look of disappointment on Sakura's face.
"I see, well is there something else you might recommend?" Sakura's eyes were bright, hungry to soak up more knowledge.
"I might do, let me go put these back and grab that book about Gondor I suggested, I'll grab a few other things you might like to read while I'm at it." Athirys left Sakura standing on her own for a few minutes while she returned and removed some books, shaking her head at a couple before returning them until she came upon a few books that might interest Sakura.
"Here, these few might keep you intrigued for a while." She handed over two slim volumes and another tome almost as thick as the one about the Fall of Gondolin.
"Thanks, I really appreciate it." Sakura gave Athirys a hundred watt smile before she wandered off with her new reading material.
When Sakura got back to her room she placed the books on the chest at the end of her bed and flopped down onto the mattress, stretching out in a languid fashion just like a cat. After she'd settled in Sakura lay there and stared at the ceiling for a little while just letting her thoughts wander.
Taking a deep breath Sakura rolled over onto her stomach and pulled the thickest tome towards her. Opening it she realised it was a book about magic, spells, incantations, enchantments, curses, illusion magic, alchemy, runes and even prophecy.
Sakura found herself quickly absorbed in the book and before she knew it the midday meal had come about and someone was knocking at her door to remind her. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts Sakura marked her page and flounced to the door, opening it to come face to face with Elladan.
"Thanks for coming to get me." Sakura said appreciatively.
"No worries, I know you've been reading a lot lately. I'm honestly surprised those books haven't sucked you in for real." Elladan laughed at his joke and Sakura followed suit, thinking it was kind of funny.
"Yeah I know, I just love reading about new things and gaining knowledge. It's a pastime of mine." Sakura gave a tittering laugh as they walked into the dining hall for lunch.
LegoXSaku
A few days passed like that, Sakura reading for long hours, finishing her books and going back to the library for more recommendations in between being reminded to eat by one sibling or another.
Her stays in Rivendell were always a welcome distraction from the many problems and tasks she faced at home. Here she could read to her hearts content, late into the night and into the early hours of the morning. She always made sure to catch enough sleep though. Sometimes her interests would change and she would go and embroider with the other Elleth (female elves) or go to the forge to watch Elladan work and possibly work on her own smithing skills.
She sparred most mornings, either with a dummy or with one of the brothers. Exercise was something she would never skip, it was something she always made time for. Such as this morning when she decided that going through her Kata and doing Yoga was a pleasant shift from sparring, so she was out on the landing bathing in the morning sun. She was very flexible so doing the bending and stretching into the poses was an easy feat.
In the midst of doing the downward dog position she heard her door open and someone calling for her.
"I'm out here!" She called back, voice slightly breathless as the blood rushed to her head. Someone came through her room and parted the curtains, to find her coming out of the downward dog and switching to the warrior pose.
"What are you up to?" It was Arwen who had come to see her.
"It's called Yoga, it's an exercise that stretches and limbers up your body. It's very good for relaxing. Is there something you wanted?" Sakura asked as she switched legs for the warrior pose.
"I wanted to let you know I'm headed out, Lady Galadriel has had a premonition about Estel and has contacted father. He's possibly in danger or injured and I must go and bring him home. I'm leaving now and wanted to let you know, that's all. I'll be back soon." Arwen put her hand on Sakura's shoulder.
"Be safe." Sakura covered Arwen's hand and squeezed before the brunette swung away and disappeared out the door.
Sakura's mind started racing as she changed poses again, into one of the tree ones she could never remember the name of. She was wondering what happened to Aragorn, had he hurt himself? Did he do battle with someone and get injured that way? Maybe he fell off his horse? Maybe he fell off a cliff? The possibilities were endless really and Sakura decided not to worry until she knew exactly what was going on.
Sakura took a deep breath as she switched to her final pose, a high lunge. Staying in this pose for thirty seconds she then switched to the other leg for another thirty seconds, taking another deep breath Sakura sat down in a crossed legged position to meditate for a while in the warm sun.
Before Sakura knew it an hour had passed and she blinked slowly as she opened her eyes and they adjusted to the bright sunlight. Taking one final deep breath Sakura stood in one fluid motion, raising her arms above her head and standing right on the tips of her toes as she stretched her limber body out.
She stood there revelling in the sun trying to decided what to do, after a moment she chose to visit Lord Elrond and ask him about her Naneth (Mother) contacting him.
Sakura brushed her hands down the front of her long sleeved tunic, brushing out the rumples before she did the same to her leggings. Reaching up Sakura did a quick check of her ponytail, smoothing back a few loose strands behind her ears and feeling relatively put together Sakura left her rooms in search of Lord Elrond.
She wandered along to his private garden, hoping to find him there. Peeking around the corner she noticed he wasn't there like he would be at this time of morning, Sakura hummed to herself wondering where he could be now. She decided she'd go ask one of the twins and off she went.
She checked the smithy looking for Elladan but it was unusually quiet, she then took the mild walk to the training fields looking for Elrohir and didn't find him either. Thinking of a place they would all be Sakura decided that she should check the dining hall and lo and behold she found the three of them at the table in a deep discussion.
"Ah, Sakura." It was Elladan who greeted her when he noticed her standing in the doorway.
"What's going on?" Sakura was mildly curious about what it was they were discussing.
"Nothing Lasdithen (Little leaf) we're simply discussing and hypothesising what could have happened to Estel. Nothing to worry about." It was Elrond who spoke and gave her a reassuring smile as he waved a hand and invited her to have a seat and they sat pondering the matter.
"We must simply pray to the Valar that everything is alright and that nobody is hurt." Elladan spoke again and they all nodded to his suggestion, bowing their head's in silence as they prayed. Sakura even prayed to Kami for what good it would do.
They simply sat quietly with each other for a while before they departed to do other things, knowing dwelling on the matter would not help. If they kept themselves busy, news would come sooner or later.
Sakura retreated back to her rooms, she collected her pot and brushes from beside the sink and filled the pot with water. She moved back out to the balcony, the peach curtains parting around her. She set the pot of brushes and water on the tall stool beside her easel, she picked up the board with her paints on it and grabbed a brush.
She dabbed the dry paint with a little water and went back to work painting the landscape that lay just beyond her balcony, the marble structures and the flowing river, the deep blue sky and the trees on the horizon. With her heightened vision it made it easier to see and add the minutest details to her painting.
She smiled to herself as she worked, knowing how proud of her Sai would have been. It then crossed her mind what Elladan said about nobody being hurt which meant to her it was more than just Aragorn travelling.
She couldn't believe how slow she'd been on the uptake to realise that it was more than just Estel. She had half a mind to confront Elrond but instead she let it lie, knowing that something more would come around to her in time.

Not more than four days later Elrond came sweeping through the training grounds in the morning to find Sakura taking on one of the wooden post dummies, turning the thing to splinters with just her bare fists.
"Sakura!" Elrond called her name over the sound of splintering wood and Sakura stopped her assault to face him.
"What is it Hir-nin? (My Lord)?" Sakura noticed the worry lines carving deep creases into Elrond's youthful face. With his grim look he silently beckoned Sakura come with him before turning and sweeping back out of the training area as his robes billowed around him, Sakura following quickly.
"What's going on? Is Arwen okay?" Sakura's questions were quick and to the point.
"Arwen is bringing a wounded Halfling to Rivendell, she's being pursued by Ringwraith's and is not sure if the Halfling will make it. I need you to ride out and meet her at the Bruinen ford and quickly now, if you can make it in time we may just be able to save the Halfling." Elrond's voice was low but his words were quick and to the point.
"Of course, I will do as you ask." Sakura agreed and as they reached the edge of the forest Sakura darted off as quickly as her chakra charged legs could carry her. There was already a horse waiting for her when she arrived and she was quick to bound up and throw her leg over his back.
"Noro lim Sabríel, Noro lim (Ride fast Sabríel, Ride fast)." Sakura called as Sabríel cantered along, she urged him into a run and Sabríel snorted, tossing his head before doing as he was bid.
It took Sakura a few hours even at Sabríel's quickest pace to make it to the Bruinen, Sakura arrived in time to see Arwen galloping as quickly as physically possible for Asfaloth to move to reach the ford whose waters at this point were only calf deep.
The water sprayed up and around Arwen as Asfaloth galloped through the shallows to reach the opposite bank of the Ford, turning Asfaloth around to face the Ringwraith's Sakura and Arwen watched as their horses stumbled, nickered, whinnied and bucked as they refused to cross the water.
"Give up the Halfling She-Elf!" Growled the Witch-king.
"If you want him, come and claim him!" Arwen called to them, drawing her sword and daring the Ringwraith's to enter the water, though she knew they were afraid of it. They drew their own swords and moved forward, urging their horses into the water which Sakura knew was a mistake on their part as Arwen called powerfully to the waters below.
"Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer; rimmo nín Bruinen dan in Ulaer! (Waters of the Misty Mountains, hear the word of power, rush, waters of Bruinen (Loudwater), against the Ringwraith's!)" With a loud roar the waters of the mountains came crashing down, the horses bucked, tossing their heads and whinnying as they turned and tried to outrun the water but the waters swept the Ringwraith's down the Ford and out of sight as Sakura and Arwen watched on.
Frodo wheezed where he sat in front of Arwen and she slipped from Asfaloth's back, taking Frodo down and laying him gently on the bank of the river panting from her riding as Frodo continued to wheeze.
"No, Frodo, no! Frodo, don't give in. Not now!" She shook him gently before hugging him to her breast.
Sakura dismounted her horse and walked over to Arwen, kneeling down next to them.
'What grace is given me, let it pass to him. Let him be spared, save him' Arwen prayed as she shed a few tears.
"Arwen, I need to look at him, you must let him go." Sakura urged as she pried Arwen hand's from him, laying him down on the bank once more. Frodo let out a quiet groan as Sakura shifted his shirt and cloak out of the way to take a look at the wound.
"There doesn't look like much I can do for him at this point, the blade that pierced him was cursed but I can at least stabilise him before he fades to one of them and we can take him to your father, because I need his help." Sakura spoke aloud as she poked and prodded, his skin ice cold under her questing fingers. She activated her chakra and pushed it into the wound, the curse pushed back at her and she struggled for a few minutes.
Sweat popped on her brow as she refused to give up and Arwen watched on as Sakura added her own magic to fight the Ringwraith's magic. After a few more moments of fighting Sakura managed to help Frodo with the pain and put a thin barrier of the chakra/magic mix to keep Frodo from fading just yet.
"I do not know how long that will hold but we must be quick." Sakura spoke as she wiped her upper lip and brow. Urging Arwen get back on her horse Sakura passed Frodo back to her and quickly mounted Sabríel, they galloped as fast as they could back to Rivendell.
They rode and they rode hard, taking care not to jolt Frodo but they could only do so much with the hard ride.

They arrived two hours later calling for Lord Elrond as they rode in, who was close at hand knowing they wouldn't be far off.
"Come, come this way and quickly." Elrond spoke fast and low as Sakura dismounted and took Frodo from Asfaloth's back. Cradling the halfling to her body Sakura followed close behind Elrond as they hurried to the healing wing.
Sakura settled Frodo on the bed in the private room that Elrond had chosen and they got to work on the halfling. Sakura undid Frodo's cloak and using a fine chakra blade sliced away the hobbits shirt. She noticed the veins radiating from the wound were a dark purple and the wound itself was open and exposed but not bleeding.
As Elrond got to work on the wound Sakura looked into the halfling's face and checked his breathing with the back of her hand, it was coming in short, quick cool puffs. Sakura reached over and prised his eyes open, noticing the pale ice blue colour and the pinprick pupils which meant his body had gone into shock and almost succumbed to the curse.
Sakura silently thanked her inquisitive mind for reading multiple books about magic, spells and curses as she checked the rest of his vitals, taking his pulse which was erratic.
She then lent her abilities to help Elrond with the wound, poking and prodding with her chakra and lending her strength to help try and heal the wound. It took a few hours for Frodo's mottled cold skin to return to normal under their ministrations but the wound itself would not fully heal leaving a puckered scar in its wake.
Sakura almost slumped as she removed her hands from Frodo's body, she had spent a lot of her energy and needed to replenish it. Sakura watched as Linaèwen swept into the room with clean clothes for Frodo and Sakura took her leave, heading to the kitchen knowing the halfling was in safe hands with Elrond around.
Sakura could feel her eyelids drooping just a little, she had expended a lot of chakra and magic reversing the curse of the Morgul blade. She knew that a small part of the curse would continue to live on in Frodo no matter how much they tried to reverse it, that's why the stab wound did not fully heal.
Sakura took a delicate sniff as she got close to the kitchen, lunch was being prepared and she could smell the delicious scent of seared fish. Walking into the kitchen she received a clamour of welcomes from the elves busy working there.
"What can I do for you Sakura?" Caelia (Pronounced: Kay-leah) approached her, a smile on her lips.
"I'm here for an early lunch if you can rustle one up?" Sakura asked politely.
"Of course, I won't be a minute." Caelia humbly agreed and true to her word was quick about putting together a plate for Sakura. A generous portion of seared fish, salad, steamed veggies and a couple of slices of fresh buttered bread.
"Thanks so much!" Sakura enthused as she was handed the plate of food, she was seated at the staff benchtop and proceeded to dive into her food. Polishing it off in a matter of minutes along with copious amounts of water from the cool jug in front of her.
Sakura took a long settling breath as she put down her water glass having finished the last of it.
"Thanks Caelia, that was delicious!" Sakura always complimented her food, although Caelia didn't eat meat she knew how to cook the fish to perfection every time whether she poached it, seared it or fried it.
"No problem Sakura, big day? You look a little tired." The other Elleth (Female elf) cleared away Sakura's dishes as she spoke to her.
"Yeah it has been, I have to head back and check on my patient though. Thanks again for lunch, wonderful as always. I'll see you later." With a big smile Sakura excused herself, making her way back down to the healing wing.
As she approached the private room Frodo was settled in she could hear Linaèwen speaking to Elrond and by the sound of his voice he was dismissing her.
"But my Lord, do you really think it wise?" She heard the older Elleth ask as she got closer.
"Are you questioning my authority and my decision?" Sakura could hear the quiet fury in Elrond's voice.
"Yes I am." Linaèwen was defiant as she spoke out against her Lord.
"Sakura has been nothing but helpful in all the times she's been here, she helped me save Frodo's life and if she hadn't helped me I don't know how I would have saved him. I'm telling you now, stop looking down on Sakura and start respecting her, she's always welcome here and will continue to be. If you don't like it then I suggest you find somewhere else to go, your poisonous views aren't welcome here." Elrond was stern and his word was final.
Sakura stood in the hall as Linaèwen came around the doorway and childishly stormed out, stopping short as she came upon Sakura. All Sakura did was give her a sly smile before she breezed past the council member and into Frodo's room.
"How's he doing?" Sakura asked quietly as she approached their patient's bed.
"Well he's as healed as he can be but he's still sleeping, we won't know how he's feeling until he wakes." Elrond's voice was quiet in the space of the room.
Standing by Frodo's bed, Sakura leaned over and started checking his vitals, his pulse had slowed to normal, his breaths were deep and even, Sakura opened both eyes which had returned to their original deep blue colour and noted that his pupils reacted to the light, contracting and expanding accordingly.
"Well from what I can tell there isn't any other residual damage, he could just be sleeping. We should give it two days, make sure to check up on him. If he hasn't awakened in that time it might be possible that he is in a coma." Sakura's response was rather serious, she hoped beyond hope that it wasn't a coma but if it was then his body would take however long is needed before he came out of the comatose state.
"A coma? What is that?" Elrond was slightly confused, it was a term he hadn't heard before.
"A coma is when the body enters a prolonged state of deep unconsciousness, caused especially by severe injury or illness. So essentially the body enters a deep sleep to help the body repair itself, they can last for weeks or months but I'm hoping he's simply sleeping. If it's a coma there's no telling how long he will be in it for." Sakura's mouth was turned down in a worried frown as she stared down as Frodo's sleeping face.
"I see." Elrond's voice was grave as he considered the possibilities.
"Why don't you go eat and rest, I'll look after the halfling from this point forward." Sakura suggested.
"Are you sure?" Elrond and Sakura looked as each other a moment before she nodded.
"There's no more healing for us to do, now we simply watch and wait and I don't mind doing so. Go eat and rest, I'll be fine." She urged he go look after himself and with a final nod Elrond swept out of the room.
Sakura took a seat in the wide, cushioned chair by the bed and watched over Frodo. Half an hour in her eyes closed and she slept for a long while. By the time she woke it was dark out, she had a small crick in her neck and someone had been kind enough to leave a candle burning in its holder on the small round table beside the chair.
Sakura looked over Frodo, checking his vitals and studying his pupils before she left the room. Arriving at her rooms she slipped in the door and shut it behind her, someone had also been kind enough to leave a candle burning on her bedside.
She got to cleaning herself up and changing out of the soiled clothes she'd worn on her hasty ride to catch Arwen at the river. Tidying her ponytail she quickly cleaned up after herself and after grabbing her current book, blew out the candle on her bedside and left the room.
Arriving back in the infirmary she found Arwen at the Frodo's bedside just looking him over, his small hand clasped in her own.
"Arwen." Sakura spoke quietly but still managed to startle the other Elleth.
"Sakura, how is he?" Arwen looked like she might cry as Sakura placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"He's doing fine, he's just sleeping for the moment. We managed to heal him but he will carry the scar for the rest of his life." Sakura's voice was a little grave as she spoke about the scar but she squeezed Arwen's shoulder in reassurance.
"May I sit with you a while before I retire?" Arwen asked quietly.
"Of course you can." Sakura enthused as she gestured at the other chair in the room to which Arwen took a seat and watched over Frodo.
Sakura got herself embroiled in the book she was reading and she didn't notice Arwen had gone until an hour later when she looked up to check on Frodo. She stood, closing her book and took his vitals again before she walked through to the infirmary where one of the other healers were.
"I'm retiring, could you please keep an eye on Frodo? His vitals are fine at the moment but if there's any change please come and get me." Sakura waited until the healer nodded before she retreated to her rooms and crawled into bed for a few hours.

Two days had passed in the same fashion as the first day Frodo had first been brought in and today was no exception.
Sakura had retired to bed late in the morning not an hour ago and she was being roughly shaken awake.
"Sakura, Lady Sakura!" It was one of the infirmary healers that were shaking her out of a wonderful dream starring Legolas.
"Yes, yes… what is it?" Sakura asked sleepily.
"It's Mithrandir." The healer said.
"What about him?" Sakura sighed sleepily, her brain still a bit foggy.
"He's in the infirmary, he's injured and needs your help." Those words pierced Sakura's sleep fog and she was suddenly very alert.
"Alright, keep him seated and I'll be right there." With her instructions the healer disappeared and Sakura stumbled out of bed, quickly shirking on a dress that was draped over the chest at the end of her bed and hurrying out the door and down to the infirmary.
Sakura almost skidded through the doorway on her bare feet, coming upon the healer and Mithrandir seated on one of the beds closest to the door. Sakura approached the bed and shooed away the other healer who went to check on Frodo.
"Mithrandir!" Sakura gasped his name as she took in the state of him, torn robes, cuts, abrasions and bruises to his face and one hand was holding his side.
"What in the name of the Valar happened to you?" She asked in disbelief.
"I had a disagreement with another Maia (Wizard) the head of my order, this was the end result." Gandalf tried to chuckle only to wince in pain.
"Let me have a look at you." Sakura took the cloth floating in a bowl of warm water and rung it out before she started wiping the blood that had run down and dried on Gandalf's face, she started scrubbing the blood out of the cuts. Gandalf winced slightly as she scrubbed but he knew it was necessary.
Sakura realised the cuts varied in depth but most weren't as bad as she thought, putting the cloth back in the bowl Sakura then started probing the cuts with her chakra before knitting the skin back together. The deepest one was on his forehead and Sakura probed deeper to check for any fractures which there were none thankfully.
"Are you hurt anywhere else?" Sakura asked, looking him over and noticing he was still holding his side.
"Yes, my side is hurting." Gandalf mentioned, his voice surprisingly steady.
"Okay, lie down for me and I'll take a look." Sakura helped to steady Gandalf as he lay down before she started poking and prodding his side garnering hissing breaths from the Maia.
"You have two broken ribs Mithrandir… A disagreement you said?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Maybe a little more than a disagreement, you should have seen the other Maia..." He chuckled and winced again.
"Hold still, this is going to hurt." Sakura warned as she placed her hand over the broken ribs, she pushed her chakra in and manipulated the ribs into their right spots before setting them back together.
"Ah!" Gandalf cried out before he went quiet again, his breath coming in pants as he rode out the residual pain.
"Alright, can you sit up for me?" Sakura asked.
Gandalf sat upright, no wincing, no groans and no pain. He was completely healed.
"You have quite the gift dear girl, I feel a lot better. Thank you." He gave her a wide smile to which Sakura simply nodded and smiled in return.
"I'm going back to bed now, I suggest you go to the kitchen, get something to eat and drink plenty of water. Then bed rest and don't think I won't know if you don't do as you're told." Sakura was stern and to the point to which Gandalf nodded his head in agreement.
"Alright then, goodnight." Sakura spoke around a yawn, having lost yet another two hours of sleep. As she left the infirmary she noticed the lightening of the pre-dawn sky and groaned, another night spent almost completely up. She grumbled to herself that she really needed a full night's sleep but she knew that Frodo needed a close eye kept on him so she ceased her grumbling.
Closing herself in her room, she crawled into bed with her back to the sky and stretching like a cat she settled herself in for a few hours of sleep before it all started again.

Two weeks had passed since Gandalf had arrived and after adequate full meals and a few decent night's sleep he'd bounced back to normal.
Gandalf had been good about keeping Sakura company as she watched over Frodo but he'd explained to her that he felt responsible because he was the one who'd sent Frodo on his trip to reach Rivendell. He hadn't explained exactly why but Sakura had drawn the conclusion that it was mighty important or he wouldn't have sent the young hobbit.
Sakura had almost cried when Aragorn has arrived a week after Frodo had been rescued by Arwen, it had been so long since she'd seen him and she was beside herself with happiness. After everyone had been introduced to each other Aragorn had disappeared and Sakura knew exactly where he'd gone.
Sakura had made fast friends with the other three hobbits that had arrived with Aragorn. Merry and Pippin both took an instant liking to her because she was so unusual looking but Sam, Sam had been incredibly wary of her until she'd lead the three of them to see Frodo.
All three were so grateful to see Frodo alive they whooped and cheered, thinking that Frodo was simply sleeping and when he didn't wake they were confused. Like Gandalf, Sakura had to explain to the three halfling's what was going on and that Frodo could potentially wake at any time. She said they were always welcome to stop in and see him and as soon as he woke she'd send someone to notify them.
Every day, without fail the three halfling's stopped in to see Frodo a few times a day. Always hoping that he would have woken up and looking downtrodden that he hadn't but they never gave up hope.
Sakura had spent the previous night up because Frodo's vitals had changed, his breathing had quickened from its deep and even pattern and his pulse was no longer slow and sluggish, this was a good indication that he was coming out of the coma.
She'd stayed up all night and checked his vitals every half hour to make sure they hadn't slowed back down, which they hadn't and Sakura had convinced herself that in the next day or so that Frodo would awaken. It had brought a smile to her face and she had relaxed enough to let herself sleep.
Gandalf had come to Frodo's room in the mid hours of the morning to find Sakura sleeping by his bed, he drew the conclusion that something had happened during the night because she was still here.
He took the seat on the opposite side of the bed in the golden sunlit room and watched Frodo while he lit up his pipe, blowing smoke rings to amuse himself and pass the time. He noticed that Frodo was starting to stir, his dark eyelashes fluttering against his cheeks.
"Where am I?" He asked, eyes still closed and his head lolling to the side.
"You are in the House of Elrond and it is ten o'clock in the morning on October twenty forth if you want to know." Gandalf stated matter-of-factly.
"Gandalf!" Frodo exclaimed as he looked over at the Maia.
"Yes, I'm here." He nodded his head with a smile while smoking his pipe.
"And you're lucky to be here too." He stated firmly "A few more hours and you would have been beyond our aid, but you have some strength in you my dear hobbit."
Frodo shifted to a sitting position and winced as he put pressure on his left arm to move himself about and it twinged a little.
"What happened Gandalf? Why didn't you meet us?" Frodo asked dubiously.
"I am sorry Frodo." Gandalf shook his head slightly, a grave look on his face. "I was delayed."
"Gandalf, what is it?" Frodo asked, concerned for the look on his friends face.
"Nothing, Frodo." Gandalf shook his head once more.
"Frodo?" he turned as he heard his name from the doorway and in rushed Sam.
"Frodo!" Sam shouted jubilantly, leaning on the bed and out of his peripheral vision Frodo caught sight of a pink haired she-elf curled up in the other chair beside his bed.
"Sam." Frodo spoke in a friendly tone.
"Bless you, you're awake!" Sam crowed.
"Sam has hardly left your side." Gandalf spoke with a smile.
"We were that worried about you, weren't we mister Gandalf?" Sam asked the Maia for confirmation.
"By the skills of Lord Elrond and the tireless efforts of the Lady Sakura, you're beginning to mend." That was Gandalf's introduction of Elrond and Sakura.
Lord Elrond stepped forward to stand by Gandalf, wearing a set of mauve robes with silver clasps, his long dark hair neatly tucked into an elvish style and a small smile on his face. With all the commotion Sakura had woken from her sleep to see that Frodo was indeed awake and her reading of his vitals had been correct.
"Welcome to Rivendell, Frodo Baggins." Elrond greeted him calmly and Frodo smiled at him.
"It's very nice to see you all but I really must check Frodo over, if you wouldn't mind. Frodo will come and join you all shortly." Sakura's tone was polite but meant business and everyone happily cleared themselves out, Frodo quickly realised that Sakura – for that must have been her name- held some kind of power for people to listen to her so quickly.
"Hi Frodo, it's nice to finally be able to talk to you." Sakura held out a warm hand which he took and gave a shake and she gave a warm smile in greeting.
"How're you feeling? Any fogginess? Any dizziness? Any tingling in your fingers or toes?" Sakura asked all the standard coma patient questions before she took his pulse and checked his eyes, making him follow her finger up and down and across ways.
"Well it looks like you're going to make a full recovery yet, I'm glad." Sakura enthused.
"Are you the elf who has been looking after me all this time?" Frodo asked curiously as he slipped his legs over the side of the bed to stand up. He noticed he didn't feel dizzy but he did feel a little weak.
"Yes, that would be me. My first suggestion to you would be to go and eat and have some water before anything else, you've been asleep over two weeks so you must be starving." Sakura's suggestion was a good one as Frodo felt his stomach rumble and Sakura heard it, laughing at the noise.
"Now off you go, off to the kitchen with you. Take Sam, he knows where to go." Sakura pottered around the room tidying up a few things before she left the infirmary, leaving Frodo to his own devices.
She ducked into the kitchen for some breakfast which Caelia had kindly loaded up on a tray for Sakura to take to her rooms, toast, fruit, jams and butter and a flagon of fresh orange juice. Retreating to her rooms Sakura took the tray to her balcony and sitting cross legged on the floor she ate food from the tray until she was full, enjoying the sunshine.
She sat in the stillness for a good half hour, soaking in the sun until she was good and warm, with that she stripped her leggings and crawled into bed for a few more hours sleep.

Sakura woke to a quiet knocking on her door and she called out, asking who it was.
"It's me, it's Arwen." Came from behind the door.
"Oh, come in." Sakura called, sitting up and sliding her legs over the bed so she was sitting with her feet upon the floor.
"What's going on? You look flustered." Sakura asked, noticing the flush to Arwen cheeks.
"Adar (Father) has called a council meeting, you're to be at the meeting in an hours' time. Men, Dwarves and the elves of Mirkwood have arrived, you need to be presentable." She spoke in a rush of breath and Sakura only heard the last part, the elves of Mirkwood.
"Does that mean Legolas Greenleaf is here?" Sakura asked, trying to conceal her excitement.
"Yes and two other elves he is accompanied by." Arwen spoke as she shuffled through Sakura's armoire, pulling out her favourite seafoam green dress with the airy sleeves.
"Come on now, change out of that tunic and wash up. I must go see to my brothers." Arwen laid the dress over the chest at the foot of her bed and disappeared to find the twins.
Sakura stripped her dirty clothes and washed up, dressing in clean under things before slipping on the dress and settling the fabric on her person. She tied on her belt of pouches around her waist with something most important to her in one of the small sealed pouches.
She then took her brush and went to stand out on the balcony where she stood and brushed out her hair in the sun until it was smooth and shiny which she then left loose.
She walked through and placed the brush back in the nook before she exited her rooms. She walked down and wandered the paths beside the river, waiting until the time the races were bound to meet, knowing Legolas would be there.

"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You've been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle Earth stands on the brink of destruction. None can escape it." Elrond's voice and words commanded attention but Sakura was distracted by Legolas's presence.
"You will unite, or you will fall. Each race is bound to this fate, this one doom." Elrond stated grimly.
"Bring forth the ring, Frodo." Elrond gestured his hand to the pedestal that sat amidst the races present.
Frodo stood and with the ring already in his hand he placed it upon the pedestal to which everyone gasped or spoke in awe.
"So it is true." Came quietly from one of the men, his name was Boromir if Sakura was correct. Elrond had run through the list of people attending with her, just minutes before the council meeting.
Sakura noticed that everyone's eyes were glued to the ring, even Legolas's. She watched Boromir stand.
"In a dream, I saw the Eastern sky go dark but in the West a pale light lingered. A voice was crying: 'Your doom is near at hand, Isildur's Bane is found.' Isildur's Bane." Boromir whispered as he reached for the ring.
"Boromir!" Elrond shouted his name.
"Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul (The inscription on the ring in Black Speech)." Gandalf chanted in black speech and it hurt Sakura's ears to hear it but it brought the meeting back to order as everyone took their seats.
"Never before has any voice uttered the words of that tongue here in Imladris." Elrond spoke matter-of-factly.
"I do not ask your pardon, Master Elrond. For the black speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West. The Ring is altogether evil." Gandalf spoke firmly and with purpose.
"It is a gift. A gift to the foes of Mordor. Why not use this Ring?" Boromir questioned, Sakura shook her head in disgust as what she was hearing.
"Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor kept the forces of Mordor at bay. By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe." Boromir was walking around the circle of people, pointing his finger in emphasis as he spoke.
"Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him." He called out.
"You cannot wield it. None of us can." Came the voice of reason from Aragorn. "The ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master."
Boromir turned to look at Aragorn.
"And what would a Ranger know of this matter?" He questioned disdainfully.
"This is no mere Ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance." Legolas spoke up against Boromir for his long-time friend and it made him a more worthy partner in Sakura's eyes.
Everyone was looking on and Frodo looked at Gandalf not quite understanding what was going on, Boromir turned to look at Aragorn his expression gobsmacked.
"Aragorn. This is Isildur's heir?" His tone was not surprised but once again full of disdain.
"And heir to the throne of Gondor." Was Legolas' input.
Frodo's eyes widened, now he fully understood what was going on between them.
"Havo dad (Sit down), Legolas." Aragorn waived his hand in his general direction.
"Gondor has no king." Boromir spoke these words as he turned to look at Legolas and then he looked back at Aragorn.
"Gondor needs no king." You could see the disgust on Boromir's face as he moved to resume his seat, staring down Aragorn who then looked away.
"Aragorn is right. We cannot use it." Gandalf agreed emphatically.
"You only have one choice," Elrond rose as he spoke "The Ring must be destroyed."
Everyone took a moment to look around at each other and the ring before one of the dwarves spoke up.
"What are we waiting for?" The master Dwarf stood and swung his axe at the ring, the blade shattered into pieces and bits went flying as the Dwarf was flung onto his back.
Sakura noticed Frodo grabbed his head and became a bit concerned about him, she saw that Gandalf had noticed too.
"The Ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Glóin, by any craft that we here possess. The Ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom, only there can it be unmade. It must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came." Elrond's voice was grave as he spoke those words.
"One of you, must do this." Elrond looked around at the group before him.
"One does not simply walk into Mordor, its black gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep and The Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland riddled with fire and ash and dust: The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly." Boromir's speech was grim and painted a vivid picture for those present.
"Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond just said? The ring must be destroyed!" Legolas stood as he spoke.
"And I suppose you think you're the one to do it!" Argued Gimli and Boromir stood once more.
"And if we fail, what then? What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?" He yelled and Gimli stood to his feet as well.
"I will be dead before I see the Ring in the hands of an Elf!" Gimli cried angrily which started an all-out uproar between all those present.
Sakura watched on in disbelief as all these men stood facing each other, yelling, if this was how they sorted everything she didn't think she wanted any part of it. The only one not involved was meek looking Frodo.
Above the clamour Gandalf heard Frodo's small voice shout.
"I will take it. I will take it." Frodo walked into the group's line of vision and Gandalf closed his eyes and drew a deep breath as the group quietened down and turned to look at the Hobbit.
"I will take The Ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way." Frodo stated firmly, and everyone looked at him through new eyes.
"I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins. As long as it is yours to bear." Gandalf spoke as he walked and placed a steady hand on the halfling's shoulder.
"As will I." Sakura moved from behind Elrond's chair to stand beside Gandalf and Frodo, giving the Hobbit a friendly smile as Aragorn too, stood.
"If by my life or death I can protect you I will." Aragorn stated firmly before walking to join their group, he kneeled in front of Frodo.
"You have my Sword." He swore before standing, Gandalf looked over and gave Elrond a sly wink.
"And you have my bow." Legolas spoke confidently as he walked over to join them.
"And my Axe." Stated Gimli, not to be left out and Legolas gave a look as the Dwarf joined them.
"You carry the fate of us all little one, if this is indeed the will of the Council then Gondor will see it done." Boromir stated as he walked to join their growing group.
"Hey!" The bushes rustled and out popped Sam to join their group.
"Mr Frodo's not going anywhere without me." He crossed his arms confidently over his chest as he spoke.
"It is hardly possible to separate you even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not." There was a slight smile on Elrond's face as he spoke and Sam looked a little embarrassed as he should.
"Oi. We're coming too!" Shouted Merry as he and Pippin ran in from where they were hiding in the doorway, Elrond was looking rather peeved.
"You'll have to send us home in a sack to stop us." Stated Merry as they joined the group.
"Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission. Quest. Thing." Pippin raised his eyebrow slightly at Lord Elrond and Sakura was struggling not laugh.
"Well that rules you out pip." Merry said to Pippin.
"Ten Companions. So be it. You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring." Elrond declared proudly.
"Great! Where are we going?" Pippin asked.
Sakura was dumbfounded for just a moment before she burst into a fit of laughter.
