The Legend of The Omnicampus

On the longest day after the longest night, the omnicampus was created. She was a pure white mare with the wings of a pegasus, the front legs of a work pony, the horn of a unicorn, and the tail of a hippocampus. She delighted in the beautiful world around her, but was also greatly saddened that she had nopony to share it with.

After many years of being lonely, she studied in the art of sculpture and magic. She sculpted the first earth ponies out of clay from the earth. She sculpted the first pegasi out of clouds and vapor. She sculpted the first unicorns out of crystals and stardust, and finally she created the first hippocampi out of seaweed and ice. To each of the four pony sects she gave an attribute of herself. To the earth ponies, she gave her strong legs and sense of responsibility. To the pegasi, she gave her wings and her lighthearted spirit. To the unicorns, she gave her horn and her magic. To the hippocampi, she gave her fish-like tail and her peacemaking qualities.

All of the ponies lived in happiness and harmony, and the Omnicampus gave herself the name Queen Gaeania. She ruled with kindness over Equestria for many hundreds of years, watching the ponies spread. As she got older, she realised that what she didn't have was an heir. So, she created Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. They had pegasus wings and a unicorns horn.

The hippocampi of Equestria, were shocked that their soon-to-be rulers did not have fins. When Gaeania tried to reason with them, they believed that all she was giving them was petty excuses, and they went to live deep on the ocean floor, vowing to cut themselves off from the rest of Equestria.

Queen Gaeania ruled for a thousand more years, with the princesses by her side, when the hippocampi broke their vow for the first and only time. They began to murmur to the Princesses, asking them why they had to continue to be second best to the Queen. Why they should merely be couriers to walk amongst commoners. The princesses cornered the Queen, asking if this was true. She told them is wasn't, and then gave them the great honor of raising the sun and moon each and every day.

The sisters were delighted with this honourable task, and did it happily for another thousand years, when the hippocampi's murmurings came back to them. They concocted a plan to put themselves in charge, to get their mother to step down, and to become the beautiful and most respected ponies in all of Equestria.

First, they ordered an ornate palace to be built, for them to live in for a hundred years. Then, they proposed a feast, to show their mother how much they loved her. Finally, they gave her a sleeping potion that would last forever, and brought her down into the dungeons, to a hidden room where she would be undisturbed forever.

The sisters returned to the people, telling them how tragically their queen had died in an attack by a hydra, and how she had bequeathed them the kingdom, to take care of for time and all eternity. The ponies were deeply saddened by this news and were in mourning for an entire month.

The sisters were then shocked by what they had done, how they had taken on a huge responsibility that they clearly were too young for, and how they had as good as killed the one pony that had shown them unconditional love.
