Meh… this is supposed to be a sort of companion to another story… but it could be taken as simply an alternate interpretation of the game…
I ship Dedede and Adeleine, but this isn't supposed to suggest anything particularly romantic between them. It's just supposed to follow the whole almost-canon thing of Dedede being simply more interested in Adele than anyone else. A number of cutscenes imply this, all of which can be fairly argued against. I guess I just like the pairing.
"Alright, let's split up again! This place is big, so we're gonna need to find a way through it." Ribbon instructed the team as they walked through the entrance of what appeared to be a mall on Shiver Star. Kirby, Waddle Dee, and King Dedede nodded excitedly, while Adeleine wore a mildly shocked expression and stared at the wall. Dedede eyed her with curiosity, and nudged her once the others had gone their separate ways.
"This is no time to be daydreaming. Get a move on. I don't think this place is as harmless as it seems," the king said gruffly, and walked off in his own direction. Adeleine stared after him for a bit, but eventually sighed and began her own trek towards the building's exit.
Adeleine walked along, keeping an eye out for her friends, and anything she could use to help them. While walking down a narrow corridor in one of the mall's upper levels, she came upon a massive library. She lurched at the sight, and staggered in after shivering in the hallway. Adeleine managed to lean on a chair at one of the numerous tables, and stared at the shelves lining the walls in horror. She noticed that not all the books were neatly slid into place on the shelves; some books were hanging out, or messily shoved wherever they would fit. Adeleine immediately thought of the safety of her friends.
Dedede sauntered along, paying little attention to his surroundings. He spotted a narrow corridor ahead, and shrugged.
"Guess I'm lost. Ah, I'll make it outta here eventually…"
As he followed the corridor to what appeared to be a dead end in the distance, he began to smell something burning. To his surprise, he came upon a small doorway, in which a tiny stream of smoke was trailing out of. When he entered, he found countless bookshelves, and Adeleine thrusting books into a messy-looking fire pit. He made his last step resonate, breaking the hysterical painter out of her trance and directing her attention at him. She stared at the king almost longingly, as if waiting for a positive reaction. He stared at her seriously for a while.
Dedede sighed irritably. "You've been acting weird since we came to Shiver Star." He exhaled. Looking her straight in the eyes, he said "Adele, I won't ask what happened, or why you're acting this way, but right now, we should be focusing on other things." Dedede slowly offered his hand.
Adeleine stared at the king with a wide-eyed, melancholy expression, eventually signing and putting out the fire with a broad stroke of her brush. She hesitantly stepped over and took her friend's hand. He led her out of the room, and back towards a path that would surely take them to the exit.
Holy shit, my shortest story ever! Well, the main story isn't, but this side story sure is. Poor little Adele. She said she's from Earth, but that's pretty fucked up when you realize that Shiver Star is Earth. That Shiver Star, with its post-apocalyptic-ness, its crazy abandoned factory that looks happy on the outside, but when you get inside, BOOM FUCK YOU creepiness. What was up with the animals in the test tubes?
