Daily Interference

Epilogue

A week passed agonisingly slow for Merlin. He was bedridden in his chambers all the time, ordered by Gaius to rest. His shoulder had healed up to a point where it was just one scab, which was protected in a layer of bandages. Morgana and Gwen had been to see him, both bringing him white and purple flowers- which he laughed at and accepted gratefully.

Arthur, on the other hand, had not been. This thought mostly upset Merlin, thinking that Arthur didn't want to see him anymore, because he was on the mend and didn't have to say he cared that what happened to Merlin. After all, the manservant had magic. No. Merlin couldn't think like that. If Arthur hated him, he would have let Prince Twat kill him at the castle. He would have just left him, alone. So why wasn't the prat here? Of course, he was a busy Prince. He had meetings to go to and papers to sort out.

It wasn't until Merlin could actually get out of his chambers that he found out.

Merlin had managed to get up early, for once. He was quite surprised by this actually. However, he knew he had no time to waste. He got up and pulled on his day shirt, followed by his beloved neckerchief. Once he ready, he crossed his tiny room, and tiptoed out of the main room, Gaius was still asleep. Walking through the golden hall ways, he smiled, watching the sunlight hit every white pillar there was in the corridor. Only a few servants were walking the hall way, smiling at him as they passed, greeting him with a 'hello' or 'I'm glad to see you are better'.

Even with his bandaged shoulder – and arm – Merlin still managed to hold the silver tray that was filled with all sorts of colour. Even that sparkled in the sunlight. Soon, the Warlock made it to Arthur's room. Pausing, he took a shaky breath and looked around, making sure the coast was clear. Confirming that, his eyes turned a molten gold on the door handle and the door swung open without making a noise.

"I thought you would have learnt not to use magic in Camelot by now, Merlin." A shadow with a mocking tone said from a desk near the window.

"B-B-but I'm early!" Merlin protested.

"Of course you are, you idiot. Now hurry up and open these curtains and put the food down on the table. I'm starving." Merlin rolled his eyes. Things were definitely back to normal. The warlock obeyed, setting the food down on the table before opening the blinds. Then he went back to the tray and started to prepare it properly for the Prat of a Prince. Once that was complete, Merlin moved away to do his normal morning chores, making sure not to jostle his shoulder in the process.

"How's you shoulder?" A surprisingly calm voice asked from the table after several minutes of silence.

"Fine, I guess. Just starting to heal now." Merlin replied, focusing on moving the duvet to it's correct position, even if it was beginning to frustrate him.

"Should you be back to work then?" Arthur questioned.

"Got bored. Can do some things. Just can't carry all that heavy armour."

"Of course."

"Can't go hunting either."

"Now you're pushing it." Both boys chuckled at the humour before falling back into silence. Then Arthur started to talk again.

"I'm sorry you had to go through so many years alone Merlin."

"I didn't go through it alone." Merlin stated, his brow creasing in confusion.

"No, but your secret. You couldn't tell a soul. Must have been hard." Arthur explained, making himself more clear.

"Why are you being like this?" Merlin asked, turning back to work again.

"Because, no one should have had to go through, what you went through. I learnt a lesson you know." Arthur stated.

"The prat has been thinking? We must celebrate!" Merlin beamed. "Go on, what lesson have you learnt?"

"I learnt that I haven't been as loyal to you as you are to me. No matter what you went through, you wouldn't say anything. There had been times when we were under pressure, where I would have broken down in your position, but you never did. I really don't know how to make it up to you. I don't even know where to start, because the amount of times where I should have died, I survived and you have always been there. You're Camelot's lucky charm." Arthur informed. Merlin smiled at him. Now, he thought, this was the King that Camelot were going to love, that the world would love. He was going to be the King that stayed in the hearts of many for all and eternity.

"I'd like to take you somewhere, Arthur. To show you that I forgive you, to show that you don't need to owe me anything." Merlin said softly.

"If it's somewhere girlie Merlin you can forget it." Both men laughed. "Okay then. I'll get a guard to go prepare two horses."

"No need. We'll waste time. We go on foot. Tonight." Merlin smiled.

"Why tonight?" Arthur asked.

"You will see." Merlin smiled.

The clearing was dark and quiet. There was no wind, and no night animals were out, waiting to hunt, waiting for their time to be begin. Then it was all destroyed. Twigs snapped and bushes rustled as two young men walked into the clearing. Once stopped at the edge of the clearing, while the other one took confident steps into the middle. The raven-haired boy let out one mighty roar, the spell hanging in the air. The pause, a long pause followed. Then the wind started. It wasn't a wind as much, but it was strong and the sounds of wings flapping could be heard from across the mountains.

A gigantic beast soared through the air, his bronze scales glowing in the moonlight. He landed, his head directly above Merlin.

"I see you are healing Merlin, what do you request from me?" Kilgharrah asked.

"Take Arthur and I across the mountains, to the other side, please?" Merlin asked.

"This is a rare occasion, but of course." The dragon gave him his consent. Merlin, smiled, and Arthur stepped forward.

"What are we doing at a lake Merlin?" Arthur asked as they stepped out of the treeline, looking across the lake in front of them.

"This is my most favourite place in the whole of the land. This Lake…this lake holds something special. This is the Lake of Avalon, Arthur, and I would like you to meet someone." Merlin smiled. From beneath the water, a body started to rise, walking to the surface. Arthur stared in awe. He recognised her…the cursed druid girl. The girl walked straight from the water, to where Merlin was wading, and held his hand, smiling with the most soft eyes Arthur had ever seen.

"Arthur, this is Freya, my love." Merlin smiled. Arthur walked towards the pair, and smiled, kissing the lady's hand.
"I'm so sorry I killed you." Arthur said, his face fallen.

"Don't worry, my prince. You had given me the freedom I had been longing for, the rest that I would have never gotten. I have forgiven you, and Merlin already has." Freya smiled, kissing Merlin on the cheek.

"I've missed you so much Freya." Merlin smiled, a tear sliding down his pale face.

"As have I, but I must go. I cannot stay in your world any longer. I'll see you soon Merlin, and stay safe." Freya smiled, kissing Merlin goodbye. Then she was gone, wading back through the water, her body becoming transparent. Arthur looked at Merlin, who caught his eye.

"Merlin I'm s-," Arthur started.

"No, Arthur. I have forgiven you. I just thought you would like to meet her. We need to go before someone finds you missing. Kilgharrah?" Merlin called out. There was a thud, and Merlin laughed, knowing that Kilgharrah had landed.

"Let's go then, time to get the lovebird home." Arthur smiled.

"Who, you?" Merlin smiled his most cheeky smile.

"You're pushing it Merlin." Arthur smiled, nudging Merlin's good shoulder. The boys laughed again, heading back towards the bronze beast.

They never heard the thunder that came from Camelot.
