Disclaimer: I do NOT own CSI.
Thanks to NANCY1 for giving me this idea. I wasn't going to write this but I'm sure you've all heard what's happening in the UK right now, and I can't sleep for worrying about friends in the affected areas, so I figured I'd try to write for a while and maybe try to cheer people up. Even if only for a few minutes.
Love at First Sight (Betty Grissom's PoV)
Looking down at the sleeping baby, she looks just like Gilbert did when he was a born, except he was a little chubbier. Even her thick brown hair looks remarkably like his did, once upon a time.
I can't believe I finally have a grand-baby, a granddaughter, a beautiful granddaughter.
I look over towards Sara, who's sleeping soundly, and smile. She's made my son happier than ever before, and I love her for that. She's like a daughter to me now, after working out the creases in our relationship.
Picking up the sleeping baby I move over and sit in the chair by the crib. I want to tell her about her daddy. I want to teach her to sign. I want to tell her that I've wait for her for so long.
Her little button nose keeps twitching, and her tiny fists keep clenching, as I gently rock her in my arms. I already adore this baby, and I vow to spoil her rotten. I will buy her everything she wants. I'll be the cool awesome grandma who she'll want to spend time with. I'll be the type of grandma she can come to when she gets wrong for colouring on the walls with crayon. And I'll be the cool babysitter who'll let her stay up late, and eat pizza and drink sugary drinks.
I see Gil walk back into the hospital room with two cups of coffee. Smiling he hands me one and places his on the table. I take a sip of mine and place it on the table. Lifting one hand I start to sign to him.
"I've never seen you this happy, Gilbert. I...I never thought I'd see you this happy."
He smiles at me, and his smile is the most genuine I've ever seen.
"I am. If somebody had told me five years ago that I'd have a child, I would never have believed them."
"What about being married to Sara?"
"Mom, since the day I met Sara I knew that we'd be married one day. I just never thought I'd be a daddy."
I smile.
"I love you, Gilbert. I should tell you more often."
"l love you, too, mom." he smiles, looking a little embarrassed. "You want me to take her off you?"
I shoo him away. "No, I want her to get used to me, so she knows who I am?"
"Okay, I might go back down to the cafeteria for a sandwich or something, do you want anything?"
I shake my head in response as the little bundle stirs in my arms. She opens her eyes and I breath in sharply, her eyes... they're gorgeous. I look towards my son then back to my granddaughter and, again, back to my son, my mouth hanging open slightly. She has her father's and her grand-father's eyes.
"Isn't she perfect?" he signs, his own eyes beaming at me..
I nod my head in agreement as I fall even deeper in love with my grandchild.
