Dear Diary,

Well where do I start? Today was a rollercoaster of emotions, some of which showed on my face, others that didn't. "What happened?" I can hear you asking.
Well, first, you know my good-for-nothing sister Lily? Yeah, well, she died. The headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore had explained everything to me in a letter. Ugh, the last time I got a letter from him was when I'd written to when I was 12, begging to go to Hogwarts. I don't know why I bothered. They were all freaks, freaks like her, my sister, Lily. That brings me to the second piece of news for the day. Have I ever mentioned Lily's son, Harry? Well he's about Dudley's age and he's like Lily, a wizard I mean. "Apparently" we are Harry's only living family after his parents died. Yeah, you guessed it. Dumbledore sent the brat to live with us! I woke up to find him on the front doorstep. Well you can imagine my shock, at first I didn't know it was my nephew until he opened his eyes. They're Lily's. Startlingly green and alert to the world around him. Vernon heard me scream and came hurrying down the stairs. I saw a letter fall out of his blankets and bent shaking to pick it up. This is what it said;

Dear Petunia,
You may have guessed by now that this is your nephew, Harry Potter. I am probably right in saying that you have no idea why he is lying on your front doorstep
(Well there has to be some reason!) Let me explain. (Cool, I'm all ears!) Lily and James Potter, his parents (no really? I never would've guessed!) ,Were murdered in the early hours of yesterday morning. Now I'm not sure if Lily ever told you about Lord Voldemort (*Wince*) but Harry has no parents now because of him. (I have more reasons than one to hate him!)Harry has no remaining family. I'm counting on you to take him in. Feed him, clothe him like he was your own. (Pfft, Fat Chance!) But when he grows up, You must tell him that he is a wizard.

My deepest condolences,

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore,
Headmaster, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

I hope you can still read the full letter with all my snide comments. A wave of emotions hit me like a baseball bat to the head. Lily was dead. I felt tears stinging in my eyes but didn't let them flow. Yes, I hated Lily for what she was, but she was still my sister. Vernon had read the letter over my shoulder and was adamant that he wasn't having one in the house. I knew I had to take him in, however grudgingly. Dudley was fascinated by him and I heard Harry crying more than once that day at Dudley's mercy. Vernon yelled at him to shut up about a hundred times but no one got up to stop him. I know I should've, I can't help feeling that he's the reason that Lily died. Vernon decided that he would sleep in the cupboard under the stairs. He said "there is no use cleaning out a bedroom for him". So Lily's dead, I have a Wizard, however small, living under my roof and Vernon hasn't spoken to me since we decided where Harry would sleep. I guess you could say that today was pretty eventful. You have no idea. The only thing that I'm wondering is what Harry is going to be like when he's older, with the magical powers and all. Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Goodnight, for now.
