"How long?" Jack pressed his face to the crook of Ianto's neck; holding, touching, embracing.
Ianto checked his stopwatch. "Nearly ten minutes now." Ianto pressed into him, seeking the warmth, the essence that was Jack.
"That's the longest yet." Jack grinned in triumph, but his chest ached. He could feel it, tugging at them, pulling them apart. "No, not yet," he whispered, pleading, fighting it, "Just a few minutes more. I don't want to go."
Ianto smiled sadly and kissed his face. "Until next time, Jack," he murmured.
Jack gasped as air hit his lungs in a rush of pain.

Rhys ran his hands worriedly through his hair. "He's not coming back."
"Give him a minute," Gwen retorted.
"Shouldn't he be back by now?"
"It takes him a little longer every time these days," she sighed, stroking the hair back from Jack's forehead with a gentle finger.
"Why?" Rhys paused, looking at her.
"I think," she said slowly, carefully considering her words, "He's got more to keep him there than here." And her chest ached, because someday he might not have a reason to come back at all.
Jack gasped as air hit his lungs in a rush of pain.
