Title: Howling
Genre: AU, adventure, romance, angst
Rating: R
Pairing: Eventual John/Sherlock
Disclaimer: Double don't own.
Summary: As a werewolf, John has endured several lifetimes of human miseries. Things change. Wolf's bored and so is Sherlock.
A/N: Written in the world/style of Patricia Briggs, it's a retelling of Hound of the Baskervilles, The Final Problem, and the Empty House...but with werewolves and Fae and other recognizable legends. This was supposed to be my Holmes Big Bang submission, but I'm better at pacing my writing, so here it is.
John was old.
Not midlife crisis old or beginning to lose your hair old or getting slower old.
He was old.
It had caused him to give up on a lot of things. Whether it was over years, centuries, or ages he had lost these things, he didn't know. Marriage and children, daughters to dote on and sons to carry his name. He had even given up on Pack.
But for some inexplicable reason, he had not given up on life.
So he joined the army. Several times. A human pack. He adapted. Adapted to technology, medicines that cured disease and cities that boxed him in and choked his senses. He did not dislike change. Change is neither good nor bad, only different.
And some things don't change.
It is the human in him that needs love, the wolf that needs pack.
John found Sherlock Holmes.
